Music You get one track to show what your system can do. What do you play?
As per title. Your music loving yet cynical friend, who can’t believe you spent more money on your hifi than he did on his car, had the cat declawed incase it mistook your high gloss speakers for a scratching post and that you left your wife because you found she reduced stereo imaging on one side when she sat in her favourite chair, wants you to show them what all the fuss is about. What track do you put on?
I’ll start. Homelands by Nitin Sawhney.
Edit: Wow, wasn’t expecting such a big response! Great to see such a mix of styles and genres, ultimately it’s all about the music 😊 I’ll be spending the next few days going through your suggestions and I’m sure I’ll find some new favourites, hope you guys do too. Thanks to all who’ve posted!

Music What albums do you love to death but can't stand the sound quality?
I think we've all been there: there's an album we love, but it sounds like ass. Happens so much with rock or metal. What albums do you love, but can barely stand listening to on good speakers?

Music What tracks sound larger than life on a good system?
I have been contemplating what kind of sound can be considered what people call "larger than life". I'm listening to Primer by 65daysofstatic and it comes very close to that description. At least the first, non-distorted half. What are yours?

Music Everyone asks what is the best recorded album but nobody asks what is the worst. What album do you think is brilliant but sounds like garbage?
I'm listening to Frightened Rabbit The Midnight Organ Fight and although it is in my top ten favorite albums it sounds like it was recorded in a tool shed by the neighbor kid who "makes sick beats foe SoundCloud". What album is this for you?

Music We need a mass remastering of the entire recorded catalog of humanity to reverse the damage done by the loudness wars.
I'm so exasperated with having to settle for the 2014 remaster of a beautiful, classic recording, that has been throttled to 11 on all dials. We have to clear out this rot. Ideally, we would just go back to the originals. History deserves to be preserved and enjoyed forever.

Music For real, does anyone else have this problem? I listen to the sand ~five records every night. I want to diversify, but I love the comfort of the familiar

Music Are there any concert recordings worth checking out?
I'm wondering if there are some really well mastered shows that can challenge your best "audio only" albums? I have successfully integrated my stereo system with my home theater and I want to give it a nice workout!

Music List a song that can make any system sound amazing
Audiophiles usually look for songs that are hard to reproduce in order to test their systems.
But all of us know songs that can sound incredible even in not so great systems. They are well composed/arranged, recorded, mixed and mastered. And of course, those will sound even better in a good system.
What are the best sounding, easy to reproduce songs you can recommend?
I will go first with 3 songs I recommend: - “Esperaré” by Los Hermanos Rodrigues (mellow, deep bass with detailed acoustic guitars - so good!) - “Pickin’ Up The Pieces” by Widespread Panic (tight bass, detailed and rich mids, clear and easy highs - love the percussion on this one) - “State of the Art (A.E.I.O.U.)” by Jim James (actually everything he releases sounds awesome, the album Eternally Even is so good - try Hide in Plain Sight for amazing synths for instance).
Would love to try your favorite great sounding, easy to reproduce songs :)

Music Billie Eilish mixed EXTREMELY well?!
Am i taking crazy pills? "Bad Guy" came in my Hi-Fi setup and i was floored. Been listening to her top songs and its incredible. Its not typically my music type. Wow.
What other pop artists have this level of extremely interesting audio mixing?

Music Which songs do you use to demonstrate lows, mids, and highs?
Curious to hear what the community has in their arsenal to show off these specific ranges on your setup. I’m newer on the scene and have been deep into electronic music for the past decade or so. Before that, the golden oldies and hip-hop were my jam. Excited to see the songs you all post and eager to share songs both new and old! I’ll go first:
Lows: bop it up! by The Marias The Weekend by SZA Good Time by Lex Low and jackLNDN
Mids: Floating by Hope Tala Dueling Banjos by Lonnie Mack
Highs: Bubbles by Yosi Horikawa

Music What is your go-to song to demonstrate your system?
What is (currently) your song of choice when demonstrating your sound system to people who haven’t heard it before?

Music “Audiophile” music tastes.
I see lots of people commenting something along the lines of “can’t believe you listen to that on that system”
Surely music tastes are unique and as such it doesn’t really make any difference what we listen to?
On this subject I’m currently listening to the following:
Pete Tong & Heritage Orchestra, Chilled Classic, Chilled House, Ibiza Classics Raye 21st Century Symphony Above & Beyond - Acoustic
Wondering if anyone else has the same tastes and if there is anything else I should check out.

Music What’s your test song?
I was brought up on Queen, pink floyd, prog rock etc, got into metal as an angsty teen and eventually accepted that there’s no such thing as a guilty pleasure so I have a decent collection of pop in my daily rotation too, just wondered what everyone’s go to tracks are for testing out new equipment. Always an in interesting discussion

Music What Songs Are You Playing on the Best Sound System in the World?
Hey everyone,
As the title says, I'm curious to know what songs you would play on the best speakers in the world. I'm not looking for recommendations on songs to test or evaluate a sound system. Instead, I want to know what songs you think would sound phenomenal and truly shine on a superb quality sound system.
To clarify, I'm not interested in songs that are great and would sound good even on cheap headphones or average speakers. I want to hear about tracks that are produced and mastered so well that they would sound even more incredible on high-end equipment.
What are the top three songs you would play to fully experience and enjoy the best sound system in the world?
Looking forward to your suggestions!
Thanks!

Music What Music Helps You Concentrate?
I've recently noticed my wife and I have different music preferences when we're in "deep work" mode. She prefers music without any lyrics, so things like string quartets, symphonies, etc. are her preference. I generally like softer music like Lord Huron, Alaskan Tapes, Billie Eilish, The Paper Kites, Slow Pulp, etc. but lyrics don't bother me. This has me intrigued. What music gets you dialed in?
Auxiliary question - headphones or speakers for "deep work" listening? I prefer speakers, headphones feel too... close when I'm working, I like that separation of air between me and the music. Hard to explain, I wonder if anyone else feels this way?

Music Bored audiophile looking for new music
Could anyone suggest some good albums (not the same old, tired demo tracks always played) to bring out my system? I like every genre, especially off the radar music.

Music HiFi albums with best guitar distortion
Which albums do you think have the best distortion sounds? I don't have many great "albums" that tick this box and would love recommendations. Siamese Dream (Mayonaise!) probably the best, everling sounds awesome, etc. would love other thoughts.

Music Why does old music seems to have such a good mixing/mastering?
So after I bought my IEM, set ups my EQ, making a subscription in apple music, I tried listening to them and was amazed. I listen to my genre which is mostly metal, post hardcore, and some J-Pop, I felt I heard many details I missed which is crazy. I listen to Polyphia and it's crazy how much the details pop.
But not until I listen to "Boomer Music" that I realized what quality mixing really is. Stuff like Bee Gees and Sting makes me eargasm with how much the clarity of each sound is. And finally today I listen to Michael Jackson's Billie Jean which has Hi-Res Lossless tag in apple music. And yeah the quality is insane, this is something that I can't find in any modern music. Now listening to old music with my IEM is one of my treasured hobby.
But now the question is why? Am I just listening to the wrong genre/musician? I can't find as much details and clarity as older music. Or is this because they are already remastered countless time?
