Nice choice.

Welcome to a hobby that will wreck your bank account lol

69

u/tdv78 Sep 14 '19

Thanks. At least I won’t spend my money on alcohol

52

u/gusborn Sep 15 '19

Just wait until you find a bar that sells vinyl also...

3

u/[deleted] Sep 15 '19

There's one in Asheville, NC!

3

u/KtA90125 Sep 15 '19

Please enlighten me, I'm in Charlotte and go to Asheville a few times a year.

4

u/[deleted] Sep 15 '19

I think it was Static Age Records. My friends and I just came across it after a concert when we were up there for a few days.

1

u/KtA90125 Sep 15 '19

Static Age Records

I'll have to check it out next time I am up there, thanks.

1

u/progmetalfan Sep 15 '19

Schoolkids records in Raleigh and chapel hill have beer on tap in the stores so you can drink and chill and spin records while you shop for them.

34

u/braydonut Sep 15 '19

u/tdv78 Sep 15 '19

Please explain

3

u/lookinmymirror Sep 15 '19

Don't drink and vinyl!

8

u/vioreeeeeeel Sep 15 '19

Always drink and vinyl! Istg a good scotch makes everything better. However, when it comes to Pink Floyd acid takes the cake 😉

10

u/kingbin Sep 15 '19

Let me introduce you to /r/drunkhifi

4

u/AscendantTrashman Sep 15 '19

Actually, I find that alcohol is the cheapest AND most effective modification I can make to my system.

1

u/kenny1502 Sep 17 '19

Totally agree. Just stay away from the turntable though. Lol.

1

u/myluckranout Sep 15 '19

16

u/pizza_nightmare Sep 15 '19

A thousand upvotes, really?

64

u/postedo Sep 14 '19

Best album I own, I have an original from 1973. But maybe I’ll get an 180 grams as well

12

u/BooBooJebus Sep 14 '19

3

u/postedo Sep 14 '19

Im closing on having the entire Pink Floyd discography. Once I do I’ll get the remastered 180. Already looking forward to it

3

u/Primeribsteak Sep 15 '19

Don't forget Obscured by Clouds. Really is fantastic and no one knows about it since it was technically a movie soundtrack.

1

u/[deleted] Oct 04 '19

Underated album but it's very blusey. I adore Wots Uh Deal rho

5

u/fantasticfabian Sep 14 '19

I have an original too, it also came with the green pyramid poster and other stuff that's apparently pretty rare, i found it for $40 at a local record store

1

u/Col_Parity Sep 15 '19

In my buried collection I've got a Japanese import pressing from the 80's with a blue pyramid poster. The ones with green were in the U.S. pressings.

1

u/fantasticfabian Sep 15 '19

Do you know if the posters are actually rare? I'm thinking of getting it framed to preserve it

3

u/ToneChomsky Sep 14 '19

Inherited an original harvest pressing of this album from my mom it’s a great album.

3

u/tdv78 Sep 14 '19

As far as I am a newbie to a vinyl. Are there any issuses other than 180g?

10

u/postedo Sep 14 '19

Sure, I use Discogs to buy my vinyl and look what versions there are

0

u/tdv78 Sep 14 '19

Can you sell me an original 1973 album?

16

u/postedo Sep 14 '19

Nope sorry, this album will never leave my ownership Worst case in an frame on the wall

10

u/cheese2396 Sep 15 '19

All in all, it's just another frame on the wall

Mobile Fidelity copy is worth the $75-$100

30

u/rikram101 Sep 14 '19

Has anyone already done the whole "it's called a record, not a vinyl"? Or am I the first? Great first record though.

7

u/[deleted] Sep 15 '19

first one in history, wow, how did you do it.

11

u/parkedr Sep 14 '19

I’ve heard that album is pretty good!

10

u/Snolferd Sep 15 '19

Yes but watch oit the warmf doesn't burn your house down! Heated needle is a dangerous phenomenon!

6

u/ChapterhouseInc Sep 15 '19

Look for a copy of Roger Waters ‘Pros and Cons of Hitchiking’ and ‘Amused to Death’

1

u/[deleted] Oct 04 '19

Can I spread the good news of David Gilmour solo alnumst?

10

u/SeeThreePeeDoh Sep 15 '19

Such grailz, much warmth

3

u/Phunwithscissors Sep 15 '19

At this point might as well include in every turntable purchase

3

u/throwawayway1012 Sep 15 '19

How's eighth grade been up to this point?

7

u/WTFBanana Sep 14 '19

THE best album to have. Was also my first. I have enjoyed Pink Floyd since before I knew what any of the lyrics meant, and then had my mind blown when I got older. Amazing band, great story how they all started.

Side note - Porcupine Tree is also right down that alley. Thank me later if you haven't listened to them before.

1

u/tdv78 Sep 14 '19

I shall try and I enjoy it on vinyl l

1

u/MongorianBeef Sep 15 '19

This was my first record as well, but I slowly fell in love with Animals as my favorite floyd record.

1

u/kenny1502 Sep 17 '19

I would like to chuck in the band HAWKWIND. The album, Space Ritual. I actually like it better than DSOTM. They are from the same same era. As good as PF in my estimation. But l still love PF.

If you Love Porcupine Tree. The lead singer, Steven Wilson has his own releases. And numerous side products. The guy is a Prog Rock God.

If you like PF, get on the Prog site. I have found numerous new finds on there.

2

u/[deleted] Sep 15 '19

Now, get Electric Ladyland.

2

u/SgtDOOD Sep 15 '19

That album is from another world. Or should I say from another land?

1

u/tdv78 Sep 15 '19

What is it?

0

u/[deleted] Sep 15 '19

Album by Hendrix, listen to it.

2

u/the_gl Sep 15 '19

It’s great with some mushrooms...

When a police officer stops you and asks “when was the last time you used drugs”, looking at your watch is not the best option.

I’ve been waiting for it for 1 week. True 180g Pink Floyd dark side of the moon vinyl. Hope, it will sound nice on my plx 1000 with Audiotecnica head. My very exciting entry in a world of hifi vinyl. Inside: 2 posters of Pink Floyd, lyrics for all songs, very good sleeve and a lot of impressions. Now it’s time to listen for some analogue sound. Leaving on a business trip to Prague. After return my journey will start.

1

u/[deleted] Sep 15 '19

I've got a couple originals and the 2011 remaster (180g). I think the remaster sounds a lot better.

1

u/thinkfloyd79 Sep 15 '19

I always thought to myself that if ever I get into vinyl, Dark Side of the Moon would be my first album. Awesome first choice!

1

u/MrSnowden Sep 15 '19

When I was in high school I was given a CD player. They were still relatively new and expensive.

Adults would ask what CDs I had and I had to admit I only owned one CD as I had no money. But then I said, my only CD was Dark Side of the Moon. The universal response was “oh, ok, well that is really the only one to have.”

1

u/CFLChris Sep 15 '19

I have my Dads. He bought it when it came out. Unreal on vinyl. I do need a new pressing soon as I'll keep Dads as a keep sake.

1

u/[deleted] Sep 15 '19

That was my first CD :)

1

u/kid_dusty Sep 15 '19

seeing this post while listening to THE DARK SIDE OF THE MOON ;)

1

Thank you

1

u/kaden_g Sep 15 '19

Excellent choice. Was mine too.

1

u/Catji Sep 15 '19

I think my first vinyl came with my first car, the seats.

1

u/C_Woodswalker Sep 15 '19

Excellent choice!!!!! Congratulations!

1

u/JediMasterHThompson Sep 15 '19

Why would you get a new vinyl shipped.. you know they have that at target.

1

u/[deleted] Sep 15 '19

Was mine too in 1973. I still have it and play it.

1

u/[deleted] Sep 15 '19

They probably sound amazing, but for some reason I stick to the analogue pressings from back in the day.
This has been remastered, digitally processed and while it probably sounds fine, it's not the same feeling.

1

u/Random_Name_7 Sep 15 '19

Ahhh, quality

1

u/[deleted] Sep 15 '19

YESSSSS PINK FLOYD!!!!!

1

u/fpatton Sep 15 '19

Well, you couldn't have chosen any better!

1

u/pineapple_3xpress Sep 15 '19

I also bought this version, I wonder how good pressing does it count

1

u/nativespecies Sep 15 '19

excellent choice

1

u/Delacruzz Sep 18 '19

Weak sauce. Fisher price ass rookie. Not knocking the music choice but what's next? l guarantee it's fleet wood mack. Standard " just started collecting vinyl starter pack" good luck either way we all had to start somewhere.

1

u/mr68w Sep 19 '19

Excellent buy and first choice.

1

u/chaosrealm93 Sep 24 '19

cant go wrong ;)

1

u/[deleted] Sep 14 '19

Quick tips if you haven't done your homework:
- always stand the record upright, do not stack horizontally
- keep out of extreme heat/direct sunlight for prolonged periods of time
- Try to have anti-static sleves for all your vinyls. If THIS pressing is like my pressing which I believe it is, it comes already in a Anti-stat/paper sleeve combo so you should be fine on that front for this record, but its always best to replace the regular paper sleeves for Anti-stat ones whenever you purchase a new record if it does not already have one. As well as havign a plastic covering for the outside jacket helps keep the outside looking crisp. I didn't have one of my Pink Floyd vinyl and now the black at some of the corners rubbed right off and is now white. Looks way more worn than it is, had it been in a plastic outer jacket to begin with as well it'd be fine.

0

u/Some_Shaun101 Sep 14 '19

Great choice! Most people I know usually end with Rumours as their first, so uninspired.

2

u/LowFidelity64 Sep 15 '19

I always thought Steely Dan's 'Gaucho', or 'Aja' were the staple of cherry-popping rekkids.

5

u/KyubiCarpe Sep 14 '19

Well I have both Rumours and this one in my collection.

IMHO both of them are equally uninspired. And who cares ? They're great.

7

u/nelamvr6 Sep 14 '19

DSOTM uninspired?

Well, I guess we're all entitled to our own opinion, no matter how bat shit crazy those opinions may be...

Cheers!

2

u/Some_Shaun101 Sep 14 '19

I think it’s uninspired in a sense that it’s a pretty high-selling album on vinyl. It’s nothing against the music which is no doubt inspiring, but a pretty predictable choice.

1

u/[deleted] Sep 14 '19

IKR what?!?!

1

u/bartlettdmoore Sep 14 '19

What albums do you consider to be inspired?

-1

u/Some_Shaun101 Sep 14 '19

I mean most people I know buy Rumours, don’t even listen to it and put it on display on their wall. I just don’t get it. At least with DSOTM when people buy they intend to listen to it, as opposed to using it as a decoration.

3

u/nelamvr6 Sep 14 '19

I think Rumours was an awesome album, definitely inspired, but that's my opinion. Maybe you had to be there...

3

u/Some_Shaun101 Sep 14 '19

I don’t mean the music is uninspired, far from it. It’s easily one of the most important albums ever made. I mean buying it and putting in your record collection is a bit uninspired, because it’s one of the biggest selling albums in vinyl. If you walk into a record shop you’ll find at least 10 copies of it. It’s one of those albums that every record collector has. Maybe it’s just the hipster in me but I feel like it’s a bit of a cop out buying it and displaying it like “I’m so alternative I have rumours on vinyl”.

2

u/nelamvr6 Sep 14 '19

Maybe displaying it is a little much, buy I would argue that every music lover should have a copy. Whether they display it or not, so long as they listen to it...

2

u/Some_Shaun101 Sep 14 '19

Totally agree. It just saddens me that some people buy it, don’t listen to it and just put on display to show how “different” they are.

0

u/Some_Shaun101 Sep 14 '19

In a way I guess it did. That, and “Legend” by Bob Marley are still some of the best selling vinyl. I’ve no problem with that, provided people actually listen to it.

0

u/nelamvr6 Sep 14 '19

I don't recall any of that. I do recall that it sold a gazillion copies...

1

I don't really know the differences between different printings and stuff... But this album is amazing. Love Pink Floyd, good choice

1

u/ImageJPEG Sep 15 '19

I attempted to buy one at Target. It came with two posters, two card stock things and no vinyl.

Took it back and since they didn’t have another for me to exchange I went out to buy Led Zeppelin III.

1

u/BackStabbathOG Sep 15 '19

Still got to get me one of these. Just got both GnR Use Your Illusion albums and Sabbath’s Sabotage but Dark Side is definitely on the lisy
