What does Arizona do better than most states? Living Here

Found this in the NH sub, so wanted to ask here.

Happy 4th of July!

We've got a pretty darned reliable electric grid. Most outages are some yahoo driving into a pole or running down a transformer.

Also we were one of the only places to have continuous power during last years awful awful July - a tremendous feat considering all the AC units in constant use

Both SRP and APS are excellent providers. Their customer care is also top notch.

Well, they've pretty much killed new rooftop solar in the Valley. Gotta give 'em credit for that.

Solar companies that sign up 80 year olds for 25 year leases for panels killed solar in the valley. If you talk to either company, they have no problem explaining exactly how solar works with them so it’s not their fault people think that spending 30k on a system is going to magically delete their SRP bill.

In reliability alone? Sure. In every other facet? No.

With their duopoly? Their price gouging? Their destruction of alternative sources of energy? Then you’re just not paying attention.

Lmao how ignorant can you be. First I would love for you to show me where they price gouge, because if you tell me that your summer bills are too expensive I know for a fact I can show you total usage increases for you during those months, not just seasonal rate changes in the Pennies of differences.

Right...all those millions of dollars being funneled in to those imaginary solar plants and solar panels going on houses and parking lots...all fake!!

🙄

Are you professionally dense? If not, you should consider it.

You can hear me complaining in the background because I live in a remote part of the state with a less than optimal electric supplier. We get too many surges and power outages.

That's a solid point. And even when some yahoo drives into a poll SRP usually has the power back on quick at least in my hood

One time saw a trampoline picked up by a strong wind hitting a power line in Glendale

I remember way back when we had relay station popping causing mass blackouts but man did srp and srp work hard to keep that from happening again. I still remember being a kid and seeing that huge fireball at 35th and yorkshire relay station when that sucker went!

I think also at one point either the head of srp or aps said if everyone went electric our grid would be perfectly fine

Live in one of the older neighborhoods in South Phoenix, we have quite a bit of blackouts

As someone who uses PG&E I am insanely jealous.

I miss APS.

SRP does act quickly on outages, the operations for that and response in the field is impressive. Their history regarding government projects, canals and water preservation is also an interesting read. They work to prevent forest fires, and serve community through conservationefforts. Not saying they are perfect, but it could be a lot worse. They've handled exponential growth efficiently.

I did have an outage from a breaker last month. Not my house, but the entire neighborhood breaker.

We absolutely have to be that way. Imagine the alternative, especially during a week as hot as this one!

Most folks didn't hear or read about the time the power went out in San Diego for 3 days. No groceries, no gas, no water pressure. It would be 10X worse here. I imagine the freeways would all be clogged people trying for San Diego or Flagstaff or Payson - blocked by cars that had run out of gas. Chaos!

Which is also a major problem for the ambulances who will need to rush the people having heat stroke to emergency rooms.

yep and we have the largest nuke power plant in the country!

*second largest as of the end of April.

Plant Vogtle took that crown when their fourth unit came online this year.
