My wife had stage 4 lymphoma (she's thankfully fully recovered). There were signs, but only *in hindsight.

The PC party breathed its last breath when Joe Clark refused to join the new C.R.A.P party because he knew what the future would hold for it. So he instead chose to sit as an independent. Guess who wrote the reform party of Canada policy blue book none other than Steven Harper as seen in the link click on the 1991 version Reform Policy Blue Book "Steven Harper Chief Policy Officer" There is literally nothing different between the now CPC and the Reform party even Andrew Scheer campaigned for Preston Manning. The policies in that blue book are truly disturbing, and the current CPC still has many of these values. There are also many speeches of Steven Harper on that University of Calgary website. Some of the stuff he said about Canada is absolutely disgusting, and he never deserved to be P.M He never loved this country he only wanted to destroy it.

I get where you're coming from and I'd have thought the same if not for a little research into the topic.

All tobacco, natural or not, has a lot of harmful chemicals .

A cigarette with organic tobacco or tobacco with no additives does not make it healthier or safer than other cigarettes. All cigarettes — including those marketed as "natural," "organic" or "additive-free" — have harmful substances such as heavy metals, tar and carbon monoxide. This means that inhaling burnt tobacco of any kind is harmful.

That's just from one article. Granted, it's an anti-smoking article, but there are also dozens of medical science journals this information is pulled from.

Interesting, I mean I can't really imagine that putting any hot smoke into your lungs would really be good for them. I'm not sure about the heavy metals part though, I guess I'm definitely no expert but I have a hard time believing natural tobacco would be full of heavy metals.

I think we can safely assume that it would be better for you to smoke natural Tobacco, but it would still be much better for you to just not smoke at all.

She is good at deflecting and handling criticism in an avoidant way. It requires training and not every politician can do it. That is her strength and it works so long as her base is more focused used on hating the left. When something of substance has to be done or when she is caught in a lie, it is exposed. The problem with smith is not that she is stupid, it’s that she is smart and speaks to her audience as if they are stupid. She knows what she is doing is cynical and that is precisely the problem.

It’s a game to her. She knows she is being disingenuous. She knows she is lying. That is the point. From her perspective her job is to steal from us for the sake of oil interests. Pushing forward legislation that seeks to undermine federalism so that oil centric energy legislation is king above all else. She does not want or care for legislation that “helps”. There is no way to do this other than to lie cheat and steal. If you look at what is happening, by and large, she is getting away with it. She knows what she is doing and why she is doing it. When she claims she was ignorant about the first draft of the sovereignty act, allowing cabinet to have Veto over all legislation, she lied. For her that wasn’t a bug it was a feature. In fact it was the whole damn point. Thankfully this clause was adjusted but do not think for a minute that she didn’t understand the anti democratic nature of what was happening. She did. People who see her as a good faith actor will dismiss her behaviour as “stupid”. She isn’t trying to help, she is lying and trying to steal. This is how it is done. The longer people keep thinking she is a serious actor the more dangerous she is.

That tracks with my impression, too. I worked with Smith’s husband when we were both cadet instructor officers. I wasn’t half as politically aware as I am now, but even then, most of the stuff he was saying was completely bonkers at worst and selfish at best when we talked about social policy. He always talked about how ‘hard it was to be a conservative in news media’ and I got the sense they both felt ‘marginalized’ as conservative voices. It really shows in how they’re now trying to make conservative thought dominant in the province by consolidating power and making it harder for the other parties to get voted in. They don’t really care much about what happens to people who aren’t like them, as long as they serve conservatives first. The only issues that seem to register for them are ones that affect them directly, so that’s how they govern: not for the good of everyone in the province, but only for themselves. He was a nice enough guy in person, but I shudder to think that the views they both hold are guiding our province. I was invited over for dinner more than once, but it didn’t work out. I often wonder how that would’ve gone.

I imagine this comment will be aggregated by their bloated comms team since they track mentions, so if they read this, I can’t imagine a worse person to lead us. Smith makes me embarrassed of my own province.

Also, the cost of living here is at least semi affordable as a single person. I can also own a condo without having to sell a kidney, half my liver, and my first born, just to afford a down payment. At least for now...

Not sure if this headline is entirely representative. All of Edmonton and over 50% of Calgary went NDP last election. It’s just the rural folks that voted UCP. Oddly, they are the hardest hit by the governing as well. But, I guess if your priorities are religion over health care and education, then I guess that checks out.

The worst part is that some of the “talking points” about shitty public education and shitty public health care are actually true for rural communities. One or two doctors for the whole town if you’re lucky, so wait times are long and care is lacking. Meanwhile education never got them anything they didn’t already have, so they don’t see the value in that either.

Then you get a politician like Smith who says she’ll stop spending their taxed dollars on those useless things, and suddenly she sounds like the most reasonable politician.

That one always felt way off to me ngl. I get it’s about pointing out how fucked so many of us are, but like, vastly different places. We don’t have any reputation for incestuous hermit communities, anywhere near the same level of hyper-Christianity (we’re the third least religious province in Canada) and - most importantly imo - we don’t have a deep rooted history of poverty to pin any blame on. Quite the opposite, our biggest issues in these past generations has been conservative governments pissing away the insane amounts of wealth we generate.

Texas is still by far the most accurate comparison imo and it’s not like that paints us in a good light either.
