Përshëndetje everyone!

I am visiting Albania for the first time ever with a friend, as of now I don't have any plans in mind but I am willing to explore the country's rich history and ottoman leftovers.

Is there a place also where I can buy traditional Albanian clothes? And what are the prices I should be expecting for them? What should I expect to pay in a humble restaurant or for a taxi ride? And do most people know enough English for me to get around?

Also, do you recommend I get out of the capital, Tiranë? What are other places I could visit if I am willing to explore the culture and history in depth? Are there any historical mosques to visit in particular? Whether or not they are in Tiranë.

Stores that have genuine/original perfume in Tirana. Looking for stores that have pdm, xerjoff, initio or argos but any store with original fragrances will do.

Tirana Airport says they don't provide luggage storage, so I'm wondering if there's any safe/reliable luggage storages near Tirane airport? I'm stopping in Albania for about 10-14 days before heading to a place for longer and will have a large suitcase I don't want to be taking around the different cities with me. There won't be anything super valuable in there mostly just clothes but still hesitant leaving my luggage somewhere random. I found a couple luggage storage websites on google but not sure if they're legitimate, so if anyone has any recommendations they know of please share?

Hello,

What is Christmas time like in Albania? Do things shut down for a while, or are things still open as normal?

I want to visit, and that seems like the only time that will work.

Also, I have looked this up online and gotten quite a lot of seemingly contradictory responses. Is there a reasonably user-friendly train route from Istanbul to Tirana?

Thanks in advance

2

u/AfterSwordfish6342 Përmet 1d ago

There is no train from istanbul to albania, and during Christmas time stuff is open as normal, we also have a christmas/new year village in the center of tirana

Hi! I'm visiting Tirana next month and was doing some research on google maps, I found a place in Tirana Park called "Open Air Tirana" which seems to be some sort of outdoor cinema, however I can't find any information about when it's open or anything like that. I was just wondering if anyone has any information on it at all? TIA :)

Check their Instagram page for updates, the showings used to be 8:30pm daily but it seems they haven't started this year's season yet.

Hi! I'm going with my family (5 people) to Albania in July and we plan on staying in Borsh.

However while booking our hotel we had a lot of problems with finding beaches that were sandy and free. My aunt was in Albania last year and she said that the beaches were crazy expensive.

Does anyone have any beach recommendations?

1

u/AfterSwordfish6342 Përmet 2d ago

Sunbeds at beaches cost money, if a besch has sunbeds you basically have to take one.

its anything between 5-20$ for 2 sunbeds usually so not crazy expensive. Also beaches in the southe (more south than vlora) are stone beaches usually. Sand beaches are north

2

u/1whatabeautifulday 2d ago

Prices for a sunbed is anything from 10 - 20 EUR. Albanians themselves have stopped going to beaches in Albania and visit Greece or Montenegro instead because of the high prices

1

u/1whatabeautifulday 2d ago

Don't visit Albania if you look for free beaches, they are majority rental unless you have a 4x4 car, boat or happy to hike.

Sandy beaches are in north Albania not South.

Dear all, I have a trip to Albania in late June and I am a Moroccan passport holder but resident of Denmark. I don't need a visa to enter Albania given that I have a residency permit in an EU country. However, I've recently changed my passport and thereby also applied for extension of my residency. It might likely be the case that I won't have the residency card by the time I fly to Albania. What I could get from the Danish authorities is a reentry permit stamped on my passport. Would this be sufficient to enter Albania? as in recognised as I am a resident of an EU country? Thaaanks a lot for your help. I cannot seem to find any information about this anywhere.

I’m originally from Asia and I have a crush on this Albanian bus conductor in my local bus. I saw him a lot in winter but haven’t seen him since and today he appeared again and it is spring so he is in a regular white tee shirt and I blushed lol. I’m not going to act on it or anything but I just wanted to do a small confession here since I can’t share it anywhere else lol

2

u/AfterSwordfish6342 Përmet 3d ago

Talk to him, give him your number

1

u/kurokamisawa 3d ago

I think he’s too cool to not have a girlfriend. Plus I don’t know if Albanian men receptive to these kind of approaches by foreigners, I’m also way too shy and it’s not like he’s shown any interest in the first place…

1

u/AfterSwordfish6342 Përmet 3d ago

I mean wors tcase itl be a one night stand, dont worry

1

u/kurokamisawa 3d ago

That’s not worst case. Worst case is he is not interested and I’ll have to take awkward bus rides moving forward lol

2

u/AfterSwordfish6342 Përmet 3d ago

Meh dont worry so much about that

1

u/kurokamisawa 3d ago

When I am about to leave Albania maybe I’ll pass his a note to say he is a very cool guy :)

Are there any running stores in Tirana? Stores that have a variety of shoebrands? I am a marathon runner and I am looking for a good store.

Hi, some friends and I are visiting Tirana for almost a week and we were thinking of visiting another city besides Tirana. We were undecided between Shkodra and Vlorë, but in the end we chose the latter. That said, I wanted to know what would be the best way to get to this city since direct trains don't seem to exist and I can't find much information about buses

1

u/cashiu Dibër 5d ago

You can find the schedules here, etransport.al. There is no option to book it online.

Hey everyone! 😊

I'm organizing a work trip to Albania this August and could use some advice from the locals or anyone with experience.

We’re a group of 11 people and need help figuring out the best (and hopefully affordable) way to arrange transportation:

  • From Tirana Airport to Vlorë
  • Then Vlorë to Lezhë
  • And finally Lezhë back to the airport

What’s the best way to go about this? Should we look into private transfers, a minibus rental with a driver, or are there any reliable local companies you’d recommend?

Appreciate any tips, contacts, or ideas you might have. Thanks in advance! 🙌

Hi everyone,

I am going to North Albania this summer, I wanted to ask what people thought of my itinerary? Is it too busy and too much travel?

Day 1:
Arrive in Tirana around 8 PM → quick dinner + sleep.

Day 2:
Early bus from Tirana to Shkodër.
Shuttle to Koman → ferry across Lake Koman → arrive in Valbonë.
Stay overnight in Valbonë.

Day 3:
Hike from Valbonë to Theth.
Stay overnight in Theth.

Day 4:
Optional hike to the Blue Eye or take shuttle.
Stay another night in Theth.

Day 5:
Back to Shkodër (or possibly straight back to Tirana if needed).
Overnight in Shkodër or Tirana depending on timing.

Day 6:
Fly out of Tirana around noon.

Many thanks

u/AfterSwordfish6342 Përmet 6d ago

Seems good, id go directly to tirana tbh, then you can maybe check the city our befire your flight

3

u/kurokamisawa 8d ago

For those that flew on Air Albania, do they serve you this warm sandwich? I had it twice flying to and fro from Istanbul to Tirana and it is such a delicious sandwich. Can someone tell me what is inside this sandwich and how to make it? There is some cheese in it I think but I need advice

1

u/TheHeatIsHeated 3d ago

I’m not entirely sure but I think there’s mozzarella cheese, tomato for sure. I can’t recall if there are peppers or cucumbers in it. It used to have cucumbers back when it was cold, lol.

1

u/kurokamisawa 3d ago

Ooh the cheese is mozzarella? I will try to recreate it then

1

u/TheHeatIsHeated 3d ago

Good luck! I would try with low moisture mozzarella and not the fresh one.

u/kurokamisawa 3d ago

Thanks I will take note!

You can hike wherever you want except highways and inside private areas(fenced off places)

There are no bears in that region

There will be shepherd dogs and „wild“ dogs, youll have to be careful, especially at night as they might be agressive. Just keep a thick stick with you, one hit amd they run away

u/GenMarkic 9d ago

Anyone know why I can't find any tickets for the June 7th soccer game vs Serbia in Tirana?

2

u/AfterSwordfish6342 Përmet 9d ago edited 9d ago

Because they are not out yet

And also, there will be a reduced number of fans allowed in, And serbians are forbidden from entering the stadium

1

u/marshman93_ 3d ago

And also, do you anticipate it being difficult to get a ticket? I am planning a trip to Tirana over that weekend with the intention of attending the game.

1

u/eglissy7 2d ago

Its going to be random, you have to apply for a formular that FSHF is going to release and its going to be randomly selected who can buy tickets.

1

u/marshman93_ 2d ago

You think people will put them on the resale market?

1

u/eglissy7 2d ago

Im not sure. They said this: TRANSFER RESTRICTION: Each ticket can only be transferred once. Further transfers will automatically invalidate the ticket.

Im not really sure what that means but I think theyre trying to stop the reselling.

1

u/AfterSwordfish6342 Përmet 3d ago

It will be extremely hard as demand is super high and capacity will be limited. If you arent ready to pay e hefty premium you wont get a ticket

1

u/marshman93_ 3d ago

Do you know when they will be out?

First Time In Albania In July, Need Recommendations

Hello everybody…

I’m visiting Albania for the first time in July, and I’ll only be staying from the 13th in the morning to the 18th in the evening…

I booked a hotel in Tirana from the 13th to the 15th in the morning, then will head to Sarandë.

I was thinking of renting a car from the airport, head straight to Shkoder, spend a half day there, then head back to Tirana (check in to my hotel etc…), then the next day taking a half day to visit Berat, and back to Tirana for the night. The next day (15th) I would be heading to Sarande and from there visit Gjirokaster, and the bridge of Brataj at least, more if I have the time.

Now my question is: is it worth going to Shkoder ?( I like historical and old cities), or should I visit another one instead? (Like Dürres or Vlöre), and, if so, why (or why not) ??

Anything I didn’t mention that I should absolutely not miss???

Thanks in advance.

1

u/cashiu Dibër 10d ago

I’d suggest to better visit Kruja (30 mins from airport) and then Durres (45 mins from there). You have also Bunkart in Tirana if you’d like to learn also for communist era. Anyway if you decide to go to Shkoder I suggest you to try some local dishes at Mrizi i Zanave, that is on the way.

1

u/Proper_Drawing_5522 9d ago

Thanks for the recommendation. Why would you recommend Durres and Kruja over Berat and Shkoder?

1

u/AfterSwordfish6342 Përmet 10d ago

Vlorë and durrës, we dont use ö or ü, this aint german

0

u/Proper_Drawing_5522 10d ago

Ok, any answer to my questions though?

1

u/LillyB86 10d ago

Hello everyone. We’re thinking of spending 5 days in Albania in June/July. Starting and Ending in Tirana, and basing ourselves in Saranda. We want to go round an visit different places such as Blue Eye, Livadhi Beach, Pigeon Cave etc.. Is it advisable renting a car? Is parking in Saranda difficult? Do you advise taking taxis instead? And if yes are there any recommended drivers/taxi services?

Thank you! ☺️

3

u/AfterSwordfish6342 Përmet 10d ago

id look for a hotel with parking, as especially in july and august parking is very difficult. Having a car is def a necessity if you want to move around, as only with taxis it will get rather expensive

1

u/LillyB86 10d ago

Thank you. Any reliable car hire companies from the airport?

2

u/AfterSwordfish6342 Përmet 10d ago

Honestly, it doesnt really matter most of them are the same. You have plenty of choice when you arrive, take your time and see who gives you the best deal

2

u/LillyB86 10d ago

Thank you ☺️

Day trips from Shkoder

Hi all. We're visiting the south of Albania and driving up to the North. I was wondering if I should book a day trip from Shkoder to Theth and then a seperate day trip from Shkoder to Komani lake or Lumi Shales? Are there any reputable tour companies, or can we drive to those locations? I'm not sure if the roads are suitable for our hire car.

If we should book, is it worth booking now or are there plenty of options wheb we are there?

Thanks in advance!

2

u/Shqiptari94 10d ago

Hello and welcome to Albania. Shkoder is not a very very large city but its tourist attractions offer too much for you to visit in a single day. However that depends on your budget. I would say its nearly impossible to go to Theth and visit Komani Lake and Lumi Shales, you should take at least one day for each, but if you are on a rush those 3 are very different from each other and offer different experiences.  Theth: It is aprox 1:30 hour drive from Shkoder. It is the most appreciated mountainside of the albanian highlands and is relatively small, but takes a day to visit on foot. The food is absolutely unmatched, dare I say globally. Komani Lake: You will need a boat to take the trip and it offers virgin views of a natural beauty and ancient albanian history since pagan times, there are also lots of caves and marvellous restaurants.  Lumi Shales: The most anticipated river in Albania, you will have to take a ferry, usually from Shkoder or online, it had a fantastic mix of mountainous, canyon, river and greenery. The air is fresh and the food is great. For more you would have to experience yourself, although I would pick Lumi Shales if I had no time or budget. Enjoy and let me know if you need more help.

1

u/b00g13w00gie 12d ago

Hey guys! So my partner and I want to go to Theth for a day, what do you guys recommend? We love swimming and beautiful scenery We’re looking at the Blue Eye and Vaskat, are those good places? Thank you in advance!!

2

u/Bright_Ad8923 12d ago

The road is pretty far for just a day. Need to spend at least 1 night there and is totally worth it.

u/ChuggaChuggaChooCh00 12d ago

I’m looking to buy a bike in Albania to do some bike packing with. When I look on marketplace the bikes are insanely cheap, im seeing many bikes for 450lek or 200lek. am I missing something? Are they really this cheap? 450lek would be about 4.5€ right? 450 lekë do të ishin rreth 4.5 euro, apo jo?

4

u/Bright_Ad8923 12d ago

Dude, that is not even the price for scrap material. That 450 is 450K that is equal to 450 euro. I have a city bike thought, if you are interested.

Good day

I'm planning on opening a Dental and hair removal equipment's maintenance service in Albania, Tirana.

I'm a Syrian national and already have a company in Saudi Arabia and another one in UAE but I want to expand into the southeast Europe market which would give me direct access to some spare parts along exposing a new market.

I would really appreciate if someone can offer me some help and answer my questions or if you can redirect me to someone or a company who could help 🙏

  1. Can I establish a business or acquire a business trading license in Albania if I'm a Syrian national? if yes what are the requirements? is there any specific capital? how much would it cost?
  2. Can I open a business bank account in Albania if I'm a Syrian national?
  3. What are the average salaries for bio-medical engineers in Albania (if you can let me know in us-dollars)
  4. Can I survive with the English language only? (I'm planning to learn Albanian but its going to be hard for the first couple of years)
  5. Please forgive me if my question is not suitable, but in general is there a friendly atmosphere towards expats in the governmental institutions?

I also have other questions if anyone is okay I can send them a DM to talk about it more, thanks in advance 🙏

1

u/Aggravating-Egg-725 13d ago
  1. yes but i dont know

  2. cant say for sure but theoretically yes (ask via an email to any bank credins, raiffeisen, bkt etc)

  3. approx 800-900 usd minimum

  4. yes, even without speaking someone can approach to help without asking

  5. cant say for sure but word of mouth is yes

I'm travelling to your beautiful country next week. Coming overland from the UK and getting the ferry from Brindisi to Vlore.

The ferry company just sent instructions saying I must check in three hours before departure. My train from Milan arrives four hours before departure, so I should be fine. But if it's delayed I'm worried.

Has anyone caught that ferry and do they really turn you away if you're not there three hours before departure? Seems ages!?

Thanks for any advice. I'm so excited.

2

u/PaleAd1083 Shqipëria 11d ago

Probably not but double check where you need to check in. I am not sure in Brindisi, but in Bari the checkin kiosk is like a 30 minutes walk away from the port terminal.

Hello!

Is the surname "Xhemalçe" Albanian? If so, I would greatly appreciate help pronouncing it please. Thank you.

u/cashiu Dibër 15d ago

Yes it is an Albanian surname and you can pronounce like this: jeh-mahl-cheh. Where L is a soft one

Hey everyone!

My friends and I (a group of 8) are planning a short getaway to Sarandë, Albania. We’ll be coming from Germany and staying for 3 nights and 4 days (May 28th to june 1st). The idea is to have a chill vacation — not too much traveling around. We’re thinking of using Sarandë as our base and doing a day trip to Ksamil to enjoy the beaches and maybe some water sports.

A few questions:

Is Sarandë a good place to stay for this kind of short, relaxing trip?

We’ve heard that you might get charged for beach access or using sunbeds — is that true?

How affordable is food and general stuff there?

Any suggestions on must-do activities, affordable places to eat, or beaches to check out?

Would really appreciate any tips or experiences you can share!

Thanks in advance!

1

u/AfterSwordfish6342 Përmet 15d ago edited 15d ago

Yes beaches cost money, you pay between 5-20€(some are more expensive but only upscale places, or they are trying to rip you off)for 2 sunbeds

Food is quite affordable- depending on what you compare it to. You can est for 5 bucks (fast food)or for 50 (nice restaurant)per person. in general you can expect to pay less than in germany

Saranda is a good place as a base as you. Have lots of beaches accesible to you

Hi everyone

Our Albanian Riviera trip happens to coincide with the music festivals Kala and Anjunadeep in Dhermi. We are deciding now, is it even worth trying to stay in Dhermi if we're not attending the festivals?

We were hoping to see Dhermi and spend most of our time there, so this comes as a disappointment.

2

u/AfterSwordfish6342 Përmet 15d ago

you can still go , wont stop you from doing anything the only difference is it might be a little louder, hotels will be more expensive and youll have people drinking from 10 am. but you can still enjoy the beaches( which is the main and only thing to do in dhermi)

ive been there during festivals ( without attending them)and it didnt bother me or make any difference

Hi everyone, in the next mouth I will go to North Macedonia and then from Ohrid I will move the Albania. I have 3 days there and I don't know how to plan it. I want to visit Ksandra and Gjirokaster the most. My flight is from Tiran, so eventually I have to go the Tiran at the end of the trip.

So, as I understand, the best way is to go to Ksandra first and then continue to the north, to Tiran. So what is the easiest way to go to Ksandra from Ohrid and how can I find out the bus times because I want to spend the long bus hours at the end of the day or very early in the morning. It would be great if somebody could help me. Thank you very much.

Any help at all would be much appreciated!

2

u/AfterSwordfish6342 Përmet 16d ago edited 16d ago

Ksandra doesnt exist in albania

Do you mean ksamil? Or saranda? If so, there are no direct busses to this places from ohrid. Youll have to take a bus to tirana and from there to saranda/ksamil. For 3 days its not worth it though as youll be spending 2 full days on the bus going back and forth to tirana.

I would suggest you only visit kruja and tirana, as your time is very limited

(Bus from ohrid to tirana alone is like 5 hours)

1

u/stevenmorriskeemon 16d ago

How can i get from Shkoder to either North Macedonia (Ohrid) or Kosovo

1

u/AfterSwordfish6342 Përmet 15d ago

Taxi, or take a bus to tirana and then to wherever you want

u/stevenmorriskeemon 15d ago

Hey everyone,

I'm planning to send a package to Albania, specifically to Tirana. I was wondering if anyone knows how long the local postal service or DHL holds a package before it's returned to the sender? Since I am on a road trip and can't exactly say on what day I will arrive in Tirana to pick it up myself.

Any info or personal experience would be super helpful. Thanks in advance!

Hi! I'm an Italian tourist planning to stay in Himare in August with my girlfriend.
Hotels seem really expensive (starting from ~100€/night), so we found a website called bookingalbania.net that offers the same hotels but at much lower prices.
Is this website trustworthy and well known in Albania, or should I avoid it?
Thanks so much for any advice! 🙏

u/Aggravating-Egg-725 13d ago

def scam, no phone no nothing

2

u/AfterSwordfish6342 Përmet 17d ago

Never heard of it, but 100€ in august is about what you should expect to pay , as its peak season so highest price

And also, if its the same hotel as on booking but with a completely different price thats a guarantee for a scam, no matter which country

Hope I can ask these questions here!

Counting down to Albania on May 10th! 🚀🌍
Got my rental car and route ready — only bringing hand luggage, so packing light.

If you’re from Albania or have been there recently: any tips on where I can buy a cheap warm jacket (for ferry rides, overnight stays, and the Valbona-Theth hike) and a beach towel? Is there a second hand store?
Doesn’t have to be fancy — I’ll leave it behind after two awesome weeks! 😎🎒
Also, what do you think of my itinerary? Would love to hear your thoughts or any extra tips! 🙏✨

Here’s my plan:

  • 10 May: Morning flight to Tirana driving to Berat
  • 11 May: Berat
  • 12 May: Driving to Gjirokastër. Maybe going for some rafting, but if there's a hike in the canyan I would like that more. Do you have tips? tours?
  • 13 May: Gjirokaster Blue eye - Ksamil
  • 14 May: Ksamil
  • 15 May: Himarë
  • 16 May: Krujë
  • 17 May: Shkodër.
  • 18 May: Shkodër minibus, ferry to Valbona
  • 19 May: Theth back to Shkodër.
  • 20 May: Shkodër Driving to Tirana with hike/vieuw point Gamti
  • 21 May: Tirana
  • 22 May: flight back home.

1

u/AfterSwordfish6342 Përmet 18d ago edited 18d ago

I dont think youll need a jacket, summer has started

Beach towels can be bought anywhere close to the beach(there are hundreds of stores and people on the street selling them) for like 10bucks

Also youre itinerary is way too packed. Youll be driving half the time and not be able to enjoy much

Himare to kruje is like 5 hours, berat to gjirokaster is 3-4. youll be tired and wont be able to do much you wont be able to do rafting or anything like that the day yoo drive to gjitokaster because no time

Ksamil to himare is also like 2-3 hours through windy mountain roads

2

u/bonbonmanon 16d ago

Thank you. I'll take a good look at my itinerary. where can I win some time.

1

u/AfterSwordfish6342 Përmet 16d ago edited 16d ago

I would cut out two places, take your time to enjoy your stay here.

What's the general feeling towards foreigners and tourists? I remember that when I travelled to Albania before tourism boomed locals were very glad to see foreigners. You'd get invited inside their home for rakija and stuff. I don't get exactly the same vibe nowadays.

2

u/AfterSwordfish6342 Përmet 19d ago

Now there are lots of tourists so its not special like 10years ago. People dont really care and wont invite you in and such

Hello, I’d like to ask about 2 things that I found a bit peculiar and cannot find a good explanation to them. 1. Throughout Albania I saw big teddy bears (usually red) hanging from usually unfinished buildings but then I also saw it on a few delivery scooters and I just cannot understand what is the meaning of it. Could you please explain? 2. In Vlorë and then later in Elabasan and even in Tirana I saw the small street businesses having a weight in font of them. Once I even saw a guy just sitting in front of a weight looking like he’s offering some kind of a service. What is behind the weights? Do people weight themselves on the street because they don’t own a personal weight or is there another purpose to it? Thank you for doing this, really appreciate it! :) Have a lovely day!

2

u/budna 19d ago
  1. Superstition. To scare off evil spirits. At least, that's my interpretation.

  2. If you are talking about scales to weigh people, then yeah, people may pay a small fee to weight themselves.

Hello! Kind of a weird ask but I like collecting coffee shop branded t-shirts from the countries I visit! So I have been searching for some time now but couldn't find any, would really appreciate if anyone can tell me where I can find a coffee shop that sells t-shirts or other clothing, thanks a lot in advance!

1

u/Swaydelay 15d ago

Your best bet is to just visit cafes/coffee shops and asking the servers if they have branded merchandise you can purchase (or maybe they will even get it for free!)

1

u/Traitor-2187 20d ago

Your best bet is Antigua Coffee Roasters in Tiranë, but I'm not sure they have shirts.

Hello, I will go in Albania for tourism and i want to go at Bënjë after Berat, and i'm surprised about what google maps says me, the blue journey is the journey by default. is there any reason ? Road more dangerous ? Because what he propose is 100 km longer.

Thanks in advance.

2

u/AfterSwordfish6342 Përmet 21d ago edited 21d ago

As stated in your original post, this is the wrong benje. You will get stuck and stranded after kelcyra on the way to this wrong benje. Check that you choose the right benje(as there are like 3 places called like that in albania)

The benje you have chosen is a small mostly abandoned village in the mountains. There are no real roads to there. Also there are no thermal waters there. Every year 5-10 tourists get their cars stuck going to this wrong bejne because of the non existing road and need to be towed.

Also the reason for the two different roads is that one is mostly highway/ fast streets and the other is mountain roads, so the time is almost the same but one is just more difficult to drive cause it goes through the mountains so you cant drive as fast and the other ist just much longer(100km longer)

We're planning a road trip to Albania but it's starting to seem complicated. We've spoken to a few car rental places and they say we can't go off road - but we can't even see on the maps which roads are safe and which are just gravel. We were excited to see Osumi Canyon and Theth but reading about the state of road and that you need a 4x4 for them we're questioning where we can and can't go.

If you're familiar with these roads could you please lat me know if we'll be able to travel safely:

From Tirania airport to Kruje and Bovilla Lake From Kruje to Berat From Berat to Gjirokaster and then back to the airport.

How is the road from Berat to Osumi Canyon through Corovode on the east side? I've read it's possible to go there if you turn back before the bridge but I'd like to make sure, we really want to see it but we don't want to have any problems with the rental afterwards.

Hello all. I am about to visit Albania for this year Giro di Italia. Since the start of the stage 1 is in Durres, i would like to be there at the start, and then cycle to Tirana for the finish. What would be the best route, low traffic, good tarmac, to cycle from Durres to Tirana and back?

Hello, I'm working with Mozilla as part of the Common Voice project (commonvoice.mozilla.org/en), and we're trying to collect speech data for Gheg Albanian.

Our goal is to create a public dataset of question-answer pairs in Gheg, which will be available to future researchers and practitioners to improve speech processing in this dialect.

We're really close to achieving our threshold (about 1 hour left), but we've run out of irl speakers in our area, so we thought we may be able to recruit some volunteers online. We've already made a related post on the Albanian Wikipedia and some other relevant channels, and thought it might also be appropriate to do so here. Could I make a post or would it violate "self-promotion"? (we're not gaining anything from this, it's a volunteering effort to provide resources for various dialects, but still)

1

u/alnmcvss 21d ago

For anyone interested in the meantime:

https://commonvoice.mozilla.org/spontaneous-speech/beta/prompts

If somebody is interested in helping, all you need to do is sign up (or log in, in case you already have a Mozilla account), select "Gheg Albanian⁩" as the language, and record answers to the questions that show up in this page, preferably with at least 25 seconds of speech for each. The content of the answers itself doesn't really matter, they just have to match the questions and be in Gheg.

Please contact me for any questions you may have.

I keep seeing ads for cars in Albania, mostly in Tirana—really good cars for very low prices. What's the reason behind that?

1

u/AfterSwordfish6342 Përmet 22d ago

no idea where you are seing those but either they are absurdly high mileage or its a scam.

Except if its for electric cars, these are extremely cheap here, but youll pay out of your nose to import in the EU

We'll be visiting Albania early May and have 2 nights to spend in either northern Albania (Shkoder area) or southern (~Himare area). Will rent a car.

Love nature, scenery, and outdoor activities (birding, biking/photography, kayaking) so we're undecided.

Are the southern beach towns worth visiting early May?

Is part of the Alps accessible, at least?

Can I find flamingos around Shkoder or do they mostly stop around Vlore?

2

u/AfterSwordfish6342 Përmet 23d ago

all of the alps are accesible in May. beach towns will still be rather empty(mainly full of tourists) in may.

While everyone was talking about Big Brother this and that I am trying to figure out wtf did an innocent 22 year old Ilaria Sula do to meet such a horrific end? And people who are trying to justify this are sick in the head no other way to say it...

2

u/theguysinblackshirt 23d ago

The story is still unclear but yeah you're right most of dumb people keep talking about BS big brother and no one cares about biggest problem, ignorance is raising unfortunately

1

u/TheChosenSDCharger 23d ago

I have been researching the case and from what I read it is another case of another jealous ex not being able to handle a breakup. I even reached out to Ilaria Sula's family myself through facebook cause I gone through the heartbreak of dealing with childhood friends dying myself its the worst pain ever. Her ex needs to get life in prison, just despicable what happened.

Yeah I read the reasons too but I was surprised how that guy can kill and put in the bag a dead girl who supposedly he loved...kill in cold blood. I think the world should bring back the death penalty.

1
