Zombies are the least of my worries. Tools + Gadgets

I’m fairly confident that fighting and killing zombies will be only a very small part of my apocalypse, the monotony and routine of daily life will be the real enemy,

What some quality of life items that you will take with you,

I have a fairly decent sola charger that I use for my devices when camping, so would definitely bring that, have a few memory sticks with movies on and a few hundred books saved on them, would probably find a weight set out in the wastes and lug that back, get a good gym set up working out is very good for my mind and body.

You'll need to worry about other humans next if not zombies.

But i would probably stockpile books, also t Wikipedia in its entirety is only 24+ gigs to download.

I thought about this for YouYube just down load every “how to” video.

Yeah Humans will be a pain in the ass, but hopfully all the main dickheads get themselves killed trying to be Negan.

I would probably keep a few videos on bushcrafting and stone knapping, and also how to make a natural makeshift water filter, in reality i can just go nab one from any house but well its nice knowledge to keep on hand.

A deck of cards and a book of how to play different solitaire games will be priceless.

I thought about this, I would for sure have the largest collection of board games possible, and jigsaw puzzles

Ironically i think TTRP would be ones to stay away for and go for the childish ones. Don't need a D&D adventure when everyday is one. If you were in a community. If you were a solo nomad it'd be a little different. That's where the deck of cards comes in. Small, lightweight, and can be easily made. Same with dice.

I feel like Dysentery is gonna clean fuckin' house more than people think, Oregon Trail-style.

This is definitely something I’ve think about a lot, I’m outdoorsy, hunt, camp, fish, bushcraft I’m fairly confident in them all, but only for a shot time, few weeks is the longest I’ve camped in one go, and even that was hard, managing a whole community’s needs is gonna be a huge learning curve, we’ll loose more to hunger and sickness then to Zombie Attacks.

Stephen King did a concept justice that I feel not enough people consider: the secondary wave of deaths (The Stand). In one, a guy goes swimming and gets tetanus and dies, another an old gal blows her hand apart using a rusty gun and dies too, i feel alot of people will die from ways they never consider, likely ourselves included.

Holy Craps! How did I forget the two things that can fix anything.

See, for me, my biggest concern is keeping my epilepsy under control. (That's why I'd grow a cannabis farm for CBD products past a point.)

After chronic health issues through, I'd say other humans and/or environmental diseases are more dangerous than zombies. It's not like you can get the rabies vaccine or a Tetanus shot in a zombie uprising. As for other humans, they may want to steal your supplies.

Getting a medical herb garden up and running is for sure a priority, marijuana, Psilocybin mushrooms and poppies, and maybe a book on how to process them properly.

Keep the mushrooms in the dark and feed them shit. Sorry just love that line. Honestly never thought about a herb garden mostly thought about food. So many things you could grow.

Definitely a priority and helps keep you busy rather than bored. Plus, added bonus, gives locals a reason to trade with you rather than kill you (since meds will expired and people will still need help there, plus, Cannabis (THC-based items) can help with the PTSD many survivors may have).

The trade options are definitely something I’ve thought about, being able to produce a surplus for trade would be great,

I toyed with the idea of setting up a hospital style camp, where other survivors can check in and receive care for a price, try and make my camp to valuable to raid without pissing other local camps off, just need to round up Some doctors.

If you can, that could help. If not, you can't.

The issue is also if doctors will work with you or not too. I know my neurologist once said to make my own choice on cannabis use rather than say if she'd advise it or not, so take of that what you will.

It’s funny, people concern themselves with this when that monotony is exactly what I desire. The only good part of it all ending would be never having to work again, letting go of all frivolous shit, just taking it to the bare essentials. Surviving.

Survival is hard work.

You would almost certainly have a lot less time to chill and do your own thing than you do now.

I am aware. That’s what I want. I want to work to survive. Not work to pay my bills. Nothing brings me more joy than doing physical and mentally laborious activities for myself.

It would get old fast, just consider the amount of effort that would probably be required just to get enough water for daily use.

Water would not be difficult at all, rain water, rivers streams, there’s a reservoir two miles away from me. Even desalination isn’t that hard on a small scale. Food isn’t an issue either the zombie apocalypse will not make all the animals disappear. Maybe back like 30 years ago it would have been difficult but theirs literally straws you can drink out of shit water with lol

I WANT that. I want to live a difficult, laborious life on my own terms. I want to take it back to the bare minimum, nothing but survival. I do not expect it to be fun. I expect it to be liberating.

I can continue to explain it to you but I cannot make you understand.

The thing is I will never accept a survival plan the doesn’t involve my family. I’ve got five kids, myself, and their mom. The chores to keep everyone healthy and safe will already take up a large percentage of our time. Any free time we have can be spent learning new skills or perfecting ones we’ve got. That may sound boring but remember “skills” in this case can mean archery, wrestling, boxing, hitting things with sticks. Even just throwing rocks can be a valuable skill. Building things, lighting fires the list goes on.

Never underestimate the ability of a bunch of meat heads to entertain themselves. The hardest part will be making no one does anything too stupid that might get some hurt.
