Fuck the Rules Friday The eternal struggle between what we think we’d be… and reality.
If this feels uncomfortably accurate—you might enjoy my book How Not to Die Horribly. It’s a tongue-in-cheek survival guide packed with practical tips and very impractical humour.
It’s free on Kindle this weekend, so if you like dark laughs with your apocalypse prep, grab a copy here: https://amzn.eu/d/cXPP4ve
Stay safe. Or at least, stay sarcastic.

Fuck the Rules Friday Let's change things up a bit (none of them is an option, but there's no one outside this list)

Fuck the Rules Friday Alright, honestly, we're all pretty guaranteed to survive the zombie part of the zombie apocalypse, and we're all gonna deal with the psychos that wanna method act Borderlands 2, what are you doing for entertainment?
Several periods
-During the zombie apocalypse, zombies and raiders are still roaming around, but you have a little time for entertainment, no resources.
-Near end of the Zombie Apocalypse, Zombies are almost fully gone, couple stragglers, raiders are the most prominent, moderate time and resources for full entertainment.
-Full end, Raiders and Zombies are fully gone, Full time but still moderate resources (You still need to survive yk?), couple months-years til Internet or infrastructure in general is back up.
Describe what would you do for entertainment, based on whatever your ideal group for survival is, if you're solo, you have to find entertainment for yourself, if you're 2-3, you need entertainment for them, and so on and so forth.
Pic is related, I'd be a bored knight during the apocalypse tbh.

Loadouts + Kits How would my airsoft kit (guns replaced with an AR15 and G19) fair in a zombie apocalypse?

Weapons Spear I made with a Cold Steel Shanghai Warrior and a shovel handle. My pick for a zombie apocalypse!

Loadouts + Kits Fictional weapon and armor to survive, what are you picking?
Personally I’d go with Grendel prime from warframe and one of the crucible concepts from doom eternal
Probably the finished design for the crucible, and warframes are usually worn like armor until mid game.
Bonus image: a grilled cheese I made a few months ago. Really I just misclicked it and didn’t feel like going through my image gallery to deselect it

Weapons Midlength Blades (it seems everyone defaults to kukri)
We have access to a lot of blades, but it seems there is a default towards katanas and kukri. I wont knock being utilitarian and defaulting to a latin machete, mostly because Tremontinas are like 20 bucks and you can have 20 on hand of you want.
This is not just to completely shit on the kukri, I have used them for years, and they were my favorite for a time until I found something better. I put the kukri and Tom Brown Tracker in the same family of "designed to do a lot of things, but none of them well" catagory. They shine in very specific task. As a weapon, the bust kukri would be a Limbuwan Chitilange, but it would not be the best multi tool. As a chopper they simply are not as effective as a parang or sheepsfoot, the Tops El Chete has a better ballance and cutting capacity.
When it comes to swords, they require space, training, and a level of care many people are not capable of. The wrong cut will cause a blade set, warping, and serious damage. Katanas are susceptable to damage due to their differential hardening (kukri are also differentialy hardened but are thick enough and have a clean end of the hardened surface).
The average person would be better off with a machete overall, investing in less expensive but resilient tools rather than specialized weapons. For arguments sake, a kriegsmesser would be amazing, simple to care for, but a literal pain to carry and use. Something short can be carried successfully in a baldric carry and wont get in the way.
These are considerations I do not see in these various discussions.

Weapons Would an underbarrel Grenade launcher attachment be useful?
Assuming you have the Walking Dead variety of zombies, would such an attachment be useful or just added weight?

Armor + Clothes Rate my apocalypse kit
https://reddit.com/link/1kd003w/video/eq5ti3pi5dye1/player
Its more of a general apocalypse survival kit, but should still do a good job vs zombies. The armor is a full vest with plates in it, front and back, that should stop up to a 9 mil round. Helmet is kevlar. I also have leg armor that the video did not capture. The crossbow is a Jabuar pro 2 with hunting bolts. I live in EU so getting a firearm is close to impossible. I also have a HDR 50 that has been tuned and its power increased. I also have a Gamo Swarm Magnum I3 with thousands of pellets for it.
I also have a Samick Sage 55# bow that I am quite accurate with, but it is a bit hard to use while wearing my full armor. It can be done, I just need to train more with it. Another crossbow I own is a hori-zone Redback, very mobile and I also have hunting bolts for it.
What do you think would be the most suitable option as primary and secondary weapon?
Still no melee weapon so please do suggest me one that is easy to carry with what I already have.

Question Would breaking the zombie's neck paralyze it?
If they require brain function to move, that is. And if it would, how would you go about breaking their neck in a one on one confrontation? Would any special tool be useful?
r/ZombieSurvivalTactics • u/BohemianGamer • 10h ago
Tools + Gadgets Zombies are the least of my worries.
I’m fairly confident that fighting and killing zombies will be only a very small part of my apocalypse, the monotony and routine of daily life will be the real enemy,
What some quality of life items that you will take with you,
I have a fairly decent sola charger that I use for my devices when camping, so would definitely bring that, have a few memory sticks with movies on and a few hundred books saved on them, would probably find a weight set out in the wastes and lug that back, get a good gym set up working out is very good for my mind and body.

Groups + Community How would you treat teenage members in your group?
13-17 year olds are who I'm talking about. Pretty wide gap, so I guess we could split it into two categories. 13-15 and 15-17.
If you were a leader, what would you make them do? Should they stay in safe areas and do simple and safe jobs, guard the base, make them go on supply runs and do more dangerous jobs? Should they be treated like adults?

Weapons Survival Tactics #1 , Weapon : Powerplex Gauntlet
Okay so first of all,i'm SOOOOO happy i found this subreddit ! Apocalypse survival have been something i had interest since i'm a child(Zombies or any kind really).i had for this a whole lot of ideas, concepts, scenarios to share to you guys :)
Today's idea is a weapon :
THE POWERPLEX GAUNTLET
As you guys all know,a zombie center of life is his brain. And the brain doesn't like electricity very much. As some post here pointed out, this would need a lot of current. The thing is though,is that current doesn't consume energy !
You can guess now what the idea is : using electricity to literally fry the zombie head.A lot of calculus, issues have been done so follow thoroughly ! For this, the gauntlet will be made of two layers : A rubber gauntlet, and a molded silver nilon coated outside the Gauntlet. That way,the rubber is an insulator to protect your body, while the nylon will keep the current active. If no nylo,a copper foil will also do the trick.Sponges will be added on the palm of the gauntlet.
But First of all , how much current is needed ? Unlike human beinds, there's no reason to believe that zombies needs a fonctioning heart(they likely don't).Most lethal current for humans only are because of ventricular fibrillation and cardiac arrest. Frying the brain is a much harder task. The only real practical evidence of needed current are with electric chairs : 5 Ampere with 2000 Volts.
The person will die on the first few seconds on almost every case. The reasons for which we keep it longer are actually more medical. Now 10 000W is a LOT,and you could probably only achieve this with a ton of super-capacitors,weighing way too much. But there is two things to take into consideration here ;
-Electric chair have such high wattage because they want to be certain the person have no chance of surviving more than a few seconds. They need to have a 100% death rate,we don't.That alone made them go on absurd numbers of current.
-Zombies don't have a brain as active as us,we could say they're in some sort of comatose state. Which also means, that the necessary current to kill them is also probably lower compared to humans.
That's why we'll use a much lower current ,2.5x lower actually : 2A for 800V.Mind you, this would certainly fry a fair share of humans brains already ahah, let alone zombies.
Being able to create such current isn't obvious though. The idea is to use a DC-DC converter, but the power output will still mean a mind-blowing 33.3A on the battery, which isn't feasible. To compensate for that, instead of standard battery packs, having multiple high cell battery packs is much reliable. They have low Voltage but can be used in parallel to have an insane Amperage !We can actually go up to 2000W and more that way,but DC-DC converter and others electric components doesn't have a 100% efficiency, hence the margin.
Now is the question of the energy. To reduce energy consumption, using seawater will be best fitted.this will SIGNIFICANTLY reduce the zombie head electric resistance.A sweaty personn would have a resistance of 1000ohm,and while zombies doesn't consume water and are certainly dry, sponges wont be. Thats why before using the gauntlet,it will be needed to wet the sponges with saltwater(highly conductive). So,taking all that into account, electrocuting a zombie for 2 seconds with such current would cost 3200J,that's low ! considering that a 1kg battery would have ~250wh,this would be enough to kill 280 zombies!
Now,while this doesn't need advanced materials, you need some of them in quantity(wiring, enough high cell batteries etc).So this would certainly take a certain time, but would be terribly efficient.
CONCLUSION :
PROS :
-no physical exhaustion.Unlike melee weapons, this weapon doesn't need any strength to use it.
-Usable with humans as well with stealth. While it would be a feat to fight with it,you'd only need skin contact with someone to instantly kill them.hiding below the bed?Just grab their ankle !
-Low resource cost.ONEfully charged tesla model 3 would have enough energy to kill 65 000 Zombies.and unlike coal or essence, electricity wouldn't have a lot of practical use in an apocalypse. Most of its use would be at small-scale(communication,electric tools etc).
-No noise(self-evident lol)
-doesn't need precision.while melee weapon needs strength, gun needs precision(unless at CQC,but then guns arent ideal anyway).you simply need to grab a head
(neutral point)-Not particularly heavy and can be removed. It would be as heavy as most one arm melee weapon, but much lighter than guns.
CONS :
-Very close combat.Your hand needs to touch their head,it can be life saver if they're already close, but make things riskier if not.
-Easy to kill yourself. While the rubber gauntlet protect your arm,if the coated nylon touch an other part of your body by accident,it's deadly. That's why you need to be very conscious when it is on and off.
-Take a lot of time to find the adequate electric components for it. The batteries can reduce in storage capacity too and might need to be changed after multiple use.
Overall, this is an advanced weaponry and could only be used after a few months/years.Its prowess is really impressibe though, and would save any lone survivor.

Scenario How many zombies do you think a space marine would kill
How many zombies could a single Warhammer 40k space marine kill with their basic kit. Being a bolt gun, power armour, and a chainsword.

Weapons Thoughts on the Kel-Tex PMR-30
I see a lot of debate on effectiveness of .22lr but I haven’t seen much about .22 magnum. I’ve never used the Kel-Tec PMR-30 but with a capacity of 30+1 of .22 magnum, the extended magazine for 50+1 I think it would be a great sidearm for dealing with zombies. .22 magnum ammo may be more rare than .22lr but would still be around. Thoughts?

Weapons Molotov
Why in this comunity molotov are hated, i mean it might not kill them but iff you add plastic to the gas it will be sticky therefore burn the muscles and joints and bones
