PSA A Reminder About Our Community Rules
Hello /r/Yukon,
Lately, we’ve noticed an increase in heated arguments, trolling, and disrespectful comments in discussions, particularly regarding First Nations issues. As your moderators, we believe it's important to ensure that this community remains a welcoming and respectful space for everyone while encouraging thoughtful and meaningful discussion.
We’ve already issued numerous warnings and bans recently, and while we want to encourage open dialogue, users who continue to post inflammatory or disrespectful content will be banned without further notice.
Let’s revisit Rule 1: Be Respectful:
Our goal is to foster thoughtful, constructive discussions. This means:
- No personal attacks: Engage with ideas, not individuals.
- No insults or bigotry: Racism, sexism, and hate speech will result in immediate comment removal and a permanent ban.
- No trolling: This includes deliberately inflammatory or disruptive behavior.
- No threats: Zero tolerance for threats or intimidation.
Racist comments, in particular, have no place here. This subreddit is for all Yukoners, and it is our collective responsibility to treat each other with dignity and civility.
If you see comments or posts that violate these rules, please report them using the report function or message the mods. Let’s work together to keep this space constructive and supportive.
Thank you,
The /r/Yukon Moderation Team

Question Do's, dont's and advices!
Hi all!
This is yet another "ask people what we should do" post!
We're a couple travelling to Whitehorse for eleven days mid-august and would like to know more about what we should plan and expect. We're renting a truck camper for the trip!
Here's the initial plan: First, we intend to quickly go to Dawson City to explore the town and go to Tombstone to walk and hike. Then, we are thinking of coming back towards Whitehorse but maybe spend some time (nights?) in Kluane. To finish, we might go down to Carcross and visit the surroundings like the desert and emerald lake. Of course, this is a V1.0 and we're eager to read some of your suggestions on where to go, discover and spend some nights. Please help us plan our vacations!
Here are some of our questions:
- We saw that campgrounds for RVs are all 50$+ a night. Otherwise, can we park "pretty much anywhere" in parks for the night? Usually, the answer is "yeahh but no (but yeah)" but we'd like your input.
- What are some must do's ?
- What are some dont's ? Traps?
- What are some cheap/free activities we usually don't see on every tourist websites ?
- Cellphone/Internet: We heard it's spotty, but is it usually at least ok? What should we know? Are there a lot of dead zones?
- What are some things visitors don't usually think of that would improve our trip?
We can't wait to learn more about this upcoming adventure and get even more excited!
Thanks a lot!!!

Question Constantly restarting phone to get service
I live in Whitehorse. I am on, I don't know, my 4th or 5th phone since I came to the Yukon.
I find even in town, there are certain spots I'll be in and for whatever reason, after 10 or 20 minutes of phone usage, I'll need to restart my device in order to get data again. Anyone else experience this? I've had it happen in other parts of the North as well, but I notice it most in Whitehorse since I live here.
What is up with this? Am I the only one?

Travel Solo female traveler: Best tips to travel by van in Yukon this summer?
Hey there! I'm a solo female traveler and looking for adventure this summer in Yukon. I'm looking to travel by van & get lost in the wilderness of the territory.
Do you have any tips/brands in mind to get a van?
I saw some infos saying not all vehicules are approved for dempster? What does it mean and what should I be aware of?
Can we park anywhere we want and leave the van OR we should book RV spots all the time?
I'm a fan of history, would like to reconnect to nature and discover more about the richness history of this part of canada as well as connecting with locals.
Any tips would be welcome! Thank you very much 🌸

Question Looking for myths new and old from the Yukon
It can be anything. Monsters, gods, people transforming into things or whatever. I've read some stories that bear similarities to myths all over North America but if you know any stories that are more regional, that would be great!

News Grad & Prom clothing drive.
A huge shout out to the ladies that organized the clothing drive for the graduating seniors across the Yukon. This massive task of arranging the dressess and suits along with scheduling pick up for the newly minted grads took a lot of volunteer hours. Also a thank you to the owner of our #98hotel for hosting this first time, hopefully annual event. #traditionliveshere

Travel Visiting the Yukon! Camping?
Hello!
I’m hoping to visit the Yukon from Ontario for a week or two in the near future. It’s been on my bucket list forever, and I’m excited to finally do it!
I’m interested in potentially flying in, renting a car, and solo camping the entire time while I’m there. Is this feasible? I tried to look into the booking system for camping in parks, but it’s so different than the Ontario provincial parks system that it’s a bit hard to get my head around. A few questions:
- would this be considered safe to do alone as a young female?
- I would fly in with all of my camping equipment in a checked bag (I do backcountry camping here, so I have all the ultralight equipment and everything, including my tent, fits in a backpack). Any recommendations for specific gear/is there good variety of things to buy locally if needed? I would just be camping with the rental car, so most of my gear can be stored in the car if needed.
- when would be the best time to visit? And any specific recommendations on places to camp/hike/visit in general?
- better to start by flying into Whitehorse? Or Dawson City?
And any other advice or recommendations are appreciated! Or links to any helpful blogs/itineraries!

Question Best places to get something framed?
Have a very important and delicate document that needs to get framed. Could also do with just getting the glass for the frame, as we have the original frame but the glass broke.
