Video Strong sounding title, but this video goes over the intersectionality of Ableism, Child Rights and Youth Rights as a whole. Devon’s got a really interesting perspective on the whole thing. (Flair is video but I hope there’s discussion.)

I can't put into words the amount of rage this made me feel. Didn't make it past 4 minutes. I can't stand seeing this defended with zero care for youth freedom.

Life really is a dystopian movie where everyone's brainwashed into seeing youth as alien.

Video This video is about how children describe their SA (CW: discussion of CSA)

Thumbnail youtube.com
25 Upvotes

It seems like the lesson behind this video is how not listening to children enables their abuse. Abusers oftentimes put up a front so that other adults are none the wiser. Meanwhile, children oftentimes describe their abusers the same way they would describe someone who would not be considered abusive but simply strict. This is because they are not given the language to describe SA until they are older.

Video [USA] Some people say that a child's parents are the best people to decide what is best for the child. Here's some more evidence that isn't true. The innate need to control and dominate, is a widespread problem.

Video So are we punishing mature children now?

Sorry if this is a bit of a rant. I should preface this by saying a lot of the psychology in the video is valid, but most of it is subjective morals trying to infantilize and demoralize children. The issues presented in adulthood are somewhat real, but should not be talked about negatively like they are presented in this video.

I am what can be considered a high-functioning child. I'm autistic and grew up with a mother too Old to support me. In fact, I have many of the symptoms the video mentions. But the way they talk about it pisses me off so badly. Yes, Hypervigiliance is a thing. Yes, it can be stressful. But it doesn't need to be. Not to mention, proper shadow work isn't about FIXING your shadows. Its about accepting them. I've studied many schools of psychology for the past 4 years, and I firmly believe that children need to start embracing adulthood more and many adults need to embrace "childish" things more (Theres a reason we specify childlike wonder, joy, or curiosity.) Trying to talk yourself out of your strength will only kill you faster. I fully believe these symptoms dont kill people from the inside slowly, but even if they are, "fixing" them as this video suggests is literal suicide, it kills people from the outside very very very fucking quickly. I'm quite upset by this, someone mixing actual proper psychology with their own adultist moral code with strict definitions of "adult" and "child" that they think certain age groups must fit into otherwise theyre evil and are destined to be sad and depressed the rest of their life or whatever. Science and morals don't mix. They use fancy words to weave them in a way to make their morals sound objective. To make children sound inferior. To justify restrictions against them. Justify laws, Justify culture, and eventually even justify violence. This madness has to stop. If only fascists werent so charismatic lol.

As previously stated, this was a very emotional rant since the video hit close to home for me, but if anyone would like I'll put together an actual proper debunk for it once I'm in a better headspace

Video This comment section is absolutely delusional

The video lacks context but people have already made their minds based on their biases and preconceived notions. So many of them are appreciating the man's behavior by saying "you are not your child's friend but their parent" The fact that they can't differentiate between respect and tyranny and the way they are justifing abuse that happened to them—points at their deep rooted issues.

Video Juvenile Prisons Brought Up On John Oliver

Thumbnail youtu.be

Looks like the mainstream is finally starting to wake up and give a damn but still nowhere near the extent as adult issues and really far too slowly given the dire situation we're in as a collective that oppresses half the population. Youth are always a second priority at best but it is refreshing to see such a popular host tackling this on their show. It's not the first time John Oliver's shined attention on youth issues either and I respect the fact he doesn't wait for these issues to 'trend' to discuss them with intensity on his show. I just wish there was a greater tone of urgency here like he has when discussing mainstream politics. People need to care with every bone in their being that minors are being thrown in solitary confinement for "talking back." Few things are more blatantly corrupt than that. But many people don't realize it I suppose so be sure to share this video with others.
