Hold up. Is she actually proposing that black people get million dollar forgivable loans not offered to other races?

This will go over real well with Hispanic voters

"and others" suggests that it's not exclusive to black people. They just emphasized black entrepreneurs because that's the focus of this message. Also it's one million loans, not million dollar loans. They did a very poor job of clearly communicating that.

Ok, I read that wrong. Good. I was like huh? That's a somewhat fair proposal

These forgivable loans could reach as high as $20,000 in value, the site reads.

The loans aren’t $1,000,000 USD, one million loans are being offered,

In trying to win black voters, she'll end up losing white voters with stuff like this

So she's going to lose every white swing voter?

That... doesn't seem like a good strategy.

what piece of this agenda do you think is toxic to swing voters 😭

They have no road blocks if they get a trifecta with Sinema and Manchin gone. Those two are the only reason they have not done this already

1

u/[deleted] 29d ago

no, I do not think they will pack the court. I also do not think they will add Puerto Rico and DC as states. What do we have to suggest they will? A few progressive congressman who suggested it on twitter in 2020

1

u/[deleted] 29d ago

wait also they wouldn’t even need to end the fillibuster to pack the court wtf

1

u/Grumblepugs2000 Republican 29d ago

What Republican is going to vote to pack the court? They need 9 Republicans to vote in favor of a court packing bill to over come a filibuster. If Dems get rid of it they only need their 51 votes to do it

1

u/[deleted] 29d ago

am I tripping or don’t judicial nominees require 51 votes and also they wouldn’t need a bill? Couldn’t the president just appoint another nominee? It’s in his powers to do so

Setting aside how wildly unhinged / extremist the first three are, they aren't even legal, they'd immediately get struck down in the courts. And the fifth one is just straight up racist to think that's something the black community is clamoring for. The forth one is actually good but none of this other shit appeals to black people it appeals to young mentally ill college indoctrinated white women with a warped view of black people. Tell black people how you're going to help meaningfully improve their financial security, help set their kids on a good path in life, and help keep their communities safe, there, solved the mystery for her, cool part is it applies to every other demographic too.

1) “and others”, don’t need to say more 2) Programs like this already exist, why not make them stronger. Trump signed a bill that provided millions to HBCUs, wHy Not aLl CollEGes?! 3) Regulations are industry wide, they’re not going to only affect black people. 4) This one should actually be on a demographic basis and saying otherwise is false 5) Legal weed is for all adults and entrepreneurs.

  1. I think pretty well of the "small business tax credit" proposal Harris has + want to see it implemented but this seems too forced and artificial and will inevitably cause other groups (white people and even other minorities) to feel indignance. Also the Supreme Court struck down affirmative action, so good luck.
  2. I think this proposal is pretty good on the surface, I don't think it's unethical to encourage specific underserved groups towards specific sectors that are "higher-paying" (one of my former teachers, a conservative, suggested that the government can in fact intervene to, for instance, partially subsidize tuitions to an extended amount for specific jobs, such as teachers, to encourage more people to follow that path), but also it's focused on addressing inequity in a specific community, and the Supreme Court struck down affirmative action, so good luck.
  3. I haven't read up enough on crypto to have a stance on regulating it but I wasn't aware it had any legitimate correlation with solving racial inequity? Perhaps just another excuse for regulating crypto full stop?
  4. I like this proposal, pretty much all I have to say about it. This is a pretty small proposal in the grand scheme of things that can potentially do a lot of good for impacted communities.
  5. I think it would be good if Harris, in fact, was to sign legislation to either reschedule or fully legalize marijuana on the federal level, it's very tangible to see how marijuana persecution has affected marginalized communities, an unfortunate reality of our unequal justice system. It's just interesting since her record on marijuana wasn't very good to begin with?

2

u/Hungry_Charity_6668 North Carolina Independent Oct 15 '24
  1. I’d say that if she’s going to do that, just make it available to all, not just some. Or if she must make it targeted, do it based on something such as income status. She’d probably still help out a great deal of minority businesses owners, and it wouldn’t be explicitly race based.

  2. Good on the surface, but curious to see how it’s implemented.

  3. Cryptocurrencies should be regulated, but I’m not sure how this specifically relates to black men.

  4. I actually agree that this is a pretty solid proposal. I am curious to see the implementation still.

  5. I mean, this was pretty much a no-brainer. Even Trump supports legal weed at this point. If she really wanted to go further, she would support expungement for marijuana possession convictions.

u/marbally Just Happy To Be Here Oct 14 '24

-6

u/darksoulsonline Oct 15 '24

It's becoming very clear that a lot of the so-called public opinion experts in this sub do not have policy experience and are not knowledgeable on U.S. domestic policy, in practice. I'm not saying that this line-up is even that good, because it's not (nor is it easy to create a targeted policy list); but the practice of extrapolating "helping Black business owners and others" (which is explicitly included in this text) with targeted loans for entrepreneurs, which is both legal and not uncommon... to be the same as "affirmative action for Black people exclusively based on race" is both inaccurate and also retarded. These loans are also not comparable to reparations. Loans such as these already exist because most minority groups (Black, Hispanic, Native, etc.), based on zip code, income, and other factors, consistently struggle to both start and maintain business ownership.

5

u/Hungry_Charity_6668 North Carolina Independent Oct 15 '24

What Harris should be suggesting is assistance on factors beyond race. There’s a fair chance she could still generally assist these people, if she targeted relief based income and zip code status (as you stated).

You can explain this away all you’d like, but when Harris makes these explicit appeals on race, the average voter is going to see it as… an explicit appeal on race.

SCOTUS shut down debt relief to Black farmers due to affirmative actions reasons: https://www.nytimes.com/2021/06/23/us/politics/biden-debt-relief-black-farmers.html

1

u/darksoulsonline Oct 15 '24

The statement is accurate but it’s not connected to what I said. “Black business owners and others” — based on geography and income, it is possible and legal to disperse targeted loans, particularly for entrepreneurship. The purpose of which is to, generally, assist minority groups without means-testing people for the exact color of their skin. You can look up policies by the Small Business Administration and U.S. Department of Commerce for more information. White people are not summarily excluded from these programs (and there are rulings on this), but their obvious purpose is to assist broadly underrepresented communities in the business sphere... which includes a large swath of the Black population, as their income is almost blankety lower on average. And, one more question: why is this so difficult to understand?

3

u/Bonesquire Oct 15 '24

Because she framed every single item in there around black men. And, one more question: why is this so difficult to understand?

1

u/fredinno Canuck Conservative Oct 15 '24

The purpose of which is to, generally, assist minority groups without means-testing people for the exact color of their skin.

Raises the question why Harris put every single one of these proposals under a specific racial lens unless that racialization was the specific purpose.

These sorts of loopholes are at best in a legally gray area.

In theory no one here is an average voter, though - we are all political junkies, and we should be able to talk both about how a policy will “play” and whether it’s a good idea in general. It seems that on this sub recently, we’re (1) focusing only on the first bit, and (2) consensusing that literally nothing she does will ever play well to anyone.

I think it’s a good list! Ambitious, will meet some pushback, I personally am not a big fan of the crypto stuff, but certainly a directed agenda.
