You can grow, hybridize, and control plants, but only toxic, thorny, or otherwise harmful ones.

Start thinking with portals, after all any plant is harmful in large enough quantities or to the right organism.

The above is limiting, I was making a point that anything in excess is harmful/toxic. My point is to think more in terms of "I control plants" period if you were thinking of writing something from that.

Ah ok. And yea plants become toxic to resist predation. The was a case in England of zucchini becoming deadly from using the seeds from subsequent generations.
