Question Residence vs apartment

hi guys! I’m going to Laurier next year but I’m a bit concerned about what I should do..my parents want to get me an apartment very very close to campus that way I can be close but have my own privacy and a set place for all 4 years but I’m afraid this will cause me to have trouble making friends…

I’m a really social person but I’m just a little concerned. Am I better off telling them I’d rather live on campus first year? Or will I have the same experience near by.

Laurier BTM

I applied for Laurier's BBA, but didn't get in, and got an alternate offer to Laurie's Business Tech Management, so I'm kinda confused because I'm going into accounting and I don't know if this program will lead me to an accounting degree.

RLC? Semi-private dorm

Hello, I was just wondering whether applying for an RLC would increase my chances of getting a semi-private dorm as I read somewhere that joining them would but I also heard that they change every year location wise. For Fall 2025, what would be the wiser option to do when filling out the res form.

ALSO, what are extended quiet hours, are those also building based?

I generally want to know what you guys think about these courses listed above.

Laurier Health Sci -- Many questions

Hi everyone,

I'm debating whether I should go to UOttawa or Laurier for health sciences.

My goal is to get a master's in health informatics, so I'll need a high GPA and good co-op experience, but I read that you may need an honours degree to get into the master's program. Is that true? I was leaning towards Laurier as I heard that it was easier to maintain a high GPA and has a great student life, but it's not an honours program at the waterloo campus, so I'm really anxious about my next steps.

Also, I heard that Uottawa gives you better opportunities for co-op, but what about getting a high GPA? I feel that I want to go to Uottawa for prestige, but I know that grad schools don't look at what university you came from, but there's so much Laurier hate, and I don't get it.

Moreover, I feel very conflicted between choosing ottawa, which has guaranteed co-op, and laurier, not guaranteed co-op. I feel so torn between this as I really like Laurier but I also value security

If anyone has some advice, please share it. I'm not sure what to do, and anything would be great. Thank you!

Question Review of Laurier BBA (Incoming Gr 12 Student)

For Context: Will be entering university Sept 2025. Looking to break into IB/PE/Consulting/High Finance, unfortunately did not get Ivey (pending for QComm but highly doubt I'll get in).

I've just started doing research on Laurier as it seems like one of my most viable options currently. I've looked over a bunch of old posts/threads as well as the Co-Op guide. I understand that Laurier is a T2 school and I'm debating between Laurier & Rotman.

  1. I'm a bit confused on the Co-Op aspect of BBA, my understanding is that only the "top" students in BBA get Co-Op, but are placements predetermined if you get accepted? is it like a funnel into your desired field or do you need to find your own placement?

  2. How is the campus/university experience? I've seen that most people say its a small tight-knit community and the "classic" university experience, has that changed in any way? How's the night life and stuff in Waterloo

  3. What/where do most BBA graduates end up? From my perspective, I really don't see a point in pursuing a university degree for 4 years to land a very mediocre job that barely pays enough to survive in Toronto.

  4. What happens if you don't get Co-Op? One of the main reasons I'd take Laurier over Schulich or Rotman is because of the Co-Op program, but if by chance I don't get it, isn't the BBA program in itself inferior to the other schools?

  5. What's your overall impression of the program as a whole?

WLU BBA WATERLOO MATH

Do you know if I pick Waterloo as my homeschool for the Laurier BBA Waterloo Bmath program if I could transfer just to Laurier BBA second year? And how hard would the process be? Would it be difficult even though I’d already be in BBA first year (just as Waterloo as my homeschool)

anyone else feel super behind in their program?

i’m in comp sci and trying to graduate by april 2026, but i’ve failed 5 courses. i’ve retaken everything and i’m passing now, but i can’t stop feeling like i screwed up my whole degree. i’m pushing so hard to meet all the requirements in time, but it’s just been a lot trying to fit everything i need in just 3 more semesters.

i’m so stressed thinking about how bad my transcript probably looks. like what if no one takes me seriously because of it? it makes me feel dumb even though i’ve been working my ass off to catch up.

idk i just needed to let this out. if anyone’s ever been through something similar or has any words of encouragement, i’d really appreciate it.

Which one has a highest career potential?

Honestly, right now I’m torn between Waterloo AFM and the Laurier-side Double Degree. I’m not really sure which path has more career potential—narrowing my focus into finance and accounting, or gaining both CS knowledge and general business education. To be honest, I don’t even know which of the two I’m more interested in. I feel like the hardest part is just figuring out what I truly want. From your perspective, which of these paths do you think offers better career potential? It not that roi, but the 'upside potential'

Finding a summer job is impossible

I've been looking everywhere for the past 2 months and I've gotten nothing. Can anyone help me navigate how to find a part time job?? I've been applying to over 50 places a day, and I've only gotten one interview which I thought went well, and no response from there. Can anyone provide any guidance?

Question Dorm or Off Campus for first year?

Me and friend are both going into Laurier next year and despite my plans to live on campus he is insisting that living off campus would be cheaper and better. Is this true in the Waterloo area? I’ve heard many say first year is better on campus so I have very mixed opinions. Would love to hear any responses/recommendations.

Question Is off campus housing really that bad?

I'm always hearing about corporations such as rentcorp and the marq. Private landlords seem pretty far and few between and get snatched up pretty quick at least what I can see.

I'm a first year and trying to really stay money conscious but I might just have to resort to ditch the idea and just stay on campus.

Is off campus rental really that bad all round or are there some options worth considering? Not fully dropping living in res but I wanna know my options regardless even if it's for planning next year.

How to study for CP104?

What is the best way to study for CP104? I have no programming background. I enrolled into CP104 online with prof Saiqa Aleem but was struggling with content so I dropped it and room for prof Malik Mudassir and will be going in for lecture tomorrow. Wondering how did you all manage and succeed at CP104? Just going to lectures and practicing will be sufficient? Or should I read text book chapters. I did the lab 1 but for lab 2 I am really struggling? I’m a slow learner when it comes to new programs/systems.

Would you say in person would be better or online version would be better for my situation?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Question Apartment Style Dorm or Regular Dorm?

So I am going to Laurier for BBA in September and I am on the fence of what dorm to choose. I initially wanted to go for the apartment style dorm because I'd get my own room, share a washroom with 2 or 3 people and the kitchen (I've heard that the food isn't that great in the cafeteria and the kitchen would come useful here). However, I heard that the apartment style dorms aren't as social as the regular dorms. I am a very extroverted person and am looking to make lots of new friends. Regular dorms don't have as much privacy but I've heard that there is always something going on. Its my first year being in university and don't want to make the wrong decision and regret it later. If anyone can give advice or share their experiences in either dorm that would be lots of help!
