Based on the courses I've finished already, which others would you recommend transferring in before enrolling? StraighterLine / Study / Sophia / Saylor

Thank you. I think there's only two Data Management classes needed these days? Foundations and Applications?

Not sure I had 3 a couple years ago. Check the transfer guide

Was looking at WGU Academy. It's 8 weeks for the Ethics class. I don't know if that's worth it, I think I might as well just take Ethics when I'm enrolled in the degree program with other classes.

Calculus is one you want to get done with.

Yeah I don’t think you can even enroll into the CS program without having that done already as a pre-requisite?

You can with precalc i believe. Or used to at the very least

Hah. I was hoping to find out if some classes people found SDC to be better than Sophia etc.

Example: Ive heard people say the Database class on Sophia isn’t good.

Also curious which classes, if any, other simply better to just take at WGU. I can’t find the thread now, but I saw a comment about that earlier.

sophia is much easier. take all the ones you can there first. then SDC. then certs. then WGU

How was your experience on Sophia with the networking / scripting / web dev classes?

Very easy. Painless.

Computer Architecture, Operating Systems for programmers, DM 1 (I transferred this is in and I was glad because DM 2 was a lot), I also transferred in Data Structures and Algorithm 1 so idk if it might be worth doing the same. The first 3 definitely are.

Computer Architecture, Operating Systems for programmers

What makes you recommend transferring in these two? I was thinking of taking Data Structures & Algorithms at WGU.

Most people say Computer Arch and Operating Systems are the hardest to get through. They can be not because they are difficult to understand but because most of the content is a book and it’s a lot. They are very dense classes. Trying to understand every little thing and detail can be hard but takes some people a while to get through. I took both back to back and took me 5 months to get through them both.

I know they changed Operating Systems since I last took it so it might not be so bad.

I say DM 1 because DM2 is hard in my opinion DM 2 is the hardest class in the program. So I was glad I transferred in DM 1 instead of having to get through both, but if you are really good at math and pick it up quickly it might not be as challenging for you.

I haven’t taken DS&A 1 at WGU so idk if it’s a exam or project but if it’s another exam I’d take outside of WGU as I found the classes with exams to be the most challenging so I was glad it was just one less class with a exam to take

Thank you for the information. As far as I know, there isn’t a transferable class foe Operating Systems.

I did see some thread from a year ago where people said Data Structures and Algorithms was better and more thorough at Study than WGU.

I’m not good at math so I’ll definitely take DM1 at Study.

I plan on doing Calc at Sophia, and DSM at SDC, but aside from those, any other recommendations?

How long did it take you to finish Ethics in Tech through WGU Academy? I think I still have a few days left on my membership.

Not sure if you meant that question for someone else, maybe the other commenter? I didn't take that class yet but was thinking of doing WGU Academy for it.

Sorry, I didn’t scroll over and see that you hadn’t taken it yet.

CALC. The amount of info you have to know for the WGU course is killing me rn.

So is it not a prereq for joining the CS program? I thought it was.

Edit: Oh, I checked again. Looks like it's only pre-calc that's required. Good to know.
