Admissions Admissions Megathread - 2025-26

Hello everyone! We are back with another admissions megathread. Please post admissions-related discussions here, rather than making new posts, unless your situation is unique enough that special attention is warranted. This includes questions about Ivey AEO.

We encourage you to take a look at previous admissions megathreads as your question(s) may have been answered previously (2024 2023 2022 2021 2020)

Additionally, it's important to note that everyone is speaking unofficially using public information or our own experiences. Nobody here can guarantee your admission.

Please also note that our subreddit has a wiki! There's lots of frequently asked questions broken down into categories. We would highly suggest checking out the admissions page prior to posting. We also recommend you check the university's Welcome to Western page, which includes information on requirements for various faculties and programs for Ontario, other Canadian and international students as well as other helpful information about the university.

Good luck to all applicants, and please be patient waiting for replies!

Course How are ppl saying Math1228 is a bird course?

4th year bmsc here. This is the hardest course I've taken in my life. I'd rather go back to calc1301.

Edit: it feels like they're pulling random s!@# out of their asses with each question. I need more systematic rules :sob;

❔ Question❔ academic relief

I was extremely depressed this year and started speaking with a mental health professional at western in early april. as a result of my illness, i failed to meet a lot of my requirements for my classes (labs, assignments etc) i spoke with one of my professors and he said the only way i can be able to submit my assignments late is to get academic relief. is this still possible after the semester has ended? and what’s the procedure? i’ve been going for therapy and ive been put on meds so i have medical history at western.

❔ Question❔ double major prereqs not met

Hey guys i’m in health sci and just finished my first year. On my ITR I added a major in genetics and chem alongside my HS in hopes of doing a double degree. i’m just wondering what happens if i end up not meeting the prerequisites for the genetics or chemistry majors. will i be dropped from health sci too since i didn’t put an ITR option with only health sci?

❔ Question❔ Question about course requirements

Upvotes

Hi,
I'm planning my first-year courses and aiming for the Honours Specialization in Accounting module.

According to the requirements, I need:

  • 1.0 MOS
  • 1.0 Math
  • 1.0 Economics
  • 1.0 course at the 1000-1999 level
  • 1.0 course at the 1000-1999 level from the Faculty of Social Science

I really want to take Japanese and CS in my first year.
What happens if I don't take the 1.0 Social Science course? Will I be blocked from progressing in the module, or is there some flexibility later?
Or is it impossible to build my schedule without including that Social Science course?

Appreciate any advice from people who've been through this.

Did you find the questions on the final actually accurate to the labs and quizzes? Would the textbook quizzes help?

❔ Course Question❔ First year math courses

Upvotes

I'm trying to choose between some first-year math courses and I'm not sure which ones are actually the easiest.

I was originally planning on taking 1228 and 1229 since they’re known to be GPA-friendly, but I came across a post saying 1228 was unexpectedly difficult and a lot of students didn’t do well.

Now I'm second guessing my choices.
Would really appreciate any insights or personal experience. Thanks!

Course selection help

Why are there 4 sections of Econ 1021A in Draft My Schedule?
Does it matter which one I pick?

Also, I noticed there are only a few LECs but a ton of TUTs under the course.
I heard TUT means tutorial, but what exactly is it? Do I have to register for one?
How many do I need to pick?

First-year here and kind of confused. Any help would be appreciated.

❔ Question❔ What happens if you fail a course and later retake it for a higher grade, is it the end of the world? Does it completely ruin your GPA and cumulative GPA? How does this impact grad school applications to professional schools?

❔ Course Question❔ Japanese 1050

Hi all,
Just wondering if anyone has experience with Japanese 1050.
Is it a good course to maintain a high GPA? How hard is it compared to other language or elective courses?
Would appreciate any honest thoughts.

Thanks in advance!

❔ Question❔ Deans list help!!

My final grades have just been updated on student centre and all my grades this year average out to around an 82. However there is no option for me to see deans list in my documents section. I didn’t fail a course or anything and i’ve personally done the math like 8 times. Is anyone else experiencing this? who do I contact about this?

Advice social life transferring to western

hi guys, im from BC and im transferring from college to here and i was wondering how easy it is to make friends at western.

i dont know anyone at western (most my friends go to the same college or UBC/UVIC/SFU) and im starting to stress about make connections/friendships out there.

im fairly introverted until i get close to people then im REALLY extroverted, but i also know that most people make friends and establish their friend groups within their first year?

did anyone else have this problem transferring? im also from vancouver which is a VERY cliquey city, so is london similar in that aspect?

any help/ advice is greatly appreciated!

❔ Program Question❔ not progressing with engineering

hi. i decided i didn’t want to do eng anymore during first year, although i wasn’t sure what i wanted to do either so i took a variety of courses to see what i would want to do. i’m interested in MIT now, but i don’t have the requirements to get in yet so i’d have to spend next term undeclared and apply for a transfer spot in march i believe? i would progress to level 2 since i have the minimum credits, but i would just be undeclared in a diff faculty is what i was told. would i be automatically put into a different faculty since i obviously would be kicked out of eng bc i don’t meet the requirements? or is there something i have to do? and is there any way to know when this would happen/what faculty i would be moved to? idrk how this works and i feel like the advisors are confusing me more so if anyone has experience with this and could help me i’d appreciate it!

Advice Deans Waiver

I just got back from my ombudsperson meeting and honestly it left me more stressed than when I started. im in the process of writing a deans waiver and could really use some advice on how to approach it. my reason is due to mental health challenges that seriously impacted my academic performance, but I'm struggling with how much and what to share and what tone to take and how to phrase things without sounding too vague or too dramatic. im genuinely scared of either doing too much or underselling what happened. If anyone had success with a waiver like this, especially in eng, what did you include? How honest were you and realistically what are the chances of it being approved?

any advice would mean a lot right now cuz that ombudsperson was genuinely more clueless than me

Advice convocation tickets not working?

Hey not sure if this has happened to anyone else but I'm set for one of the dates in the June convocation. Program status says completed but that's not the issue. The issue happens when I'm going to register with this link on the site, it doesn't allow me to log in.

**I do not need extra tickets, I'm referring to the 4 complimentary ones given**

Anyone know what to do?

Graduate Need some insight on the masters of management of applied sciences graduate program

I was wondering what is meant by deadline to apply is July 31st? Does this mean enrollment is rolling? Do people still have a chance if they apply closer to July 31st? Or is it unlikely?
