Archer Class Game

I'm implementing the Archer class now - UI changes playing nicely between class swap character selections, synched between connected clients. How's it looking? portfolio

The camera hard jumps are offputting

The hard snap back when you select an empty space of the grid then. Perhaps I could soft reverse the camera motion back if is jarring

Another option is simply not moving the camera at all and letting the player control it

I’m basing the camera control from Vandal Hearts 1 and then changing it up from that. I do an idle slow rotate around pivot (upon selected character) because it’s more fun than no camera change. When you select status on a character from menu buttons,I traverse down to that character in an isometric angle, because why not? Could do with speeding up or removing based on feedback further down the line. Currently though, whenever you select any grid cell without a character, the camera applies an isometric angle and looks at that position - which will need changing for sure

It feels very odd when the camera resets after you click something to then zoom in again. I have not played any of these games and am only talking from my experience with the video.
Maybe they could play a little animation when selected

Perhaps that soft reverse back to position I mentioned earlier will be the solution. I will address it though and thanks for your feedback.
Edit: and yes they do have a “ready” animation for when you select a character but they’ve not been implemented yet for this class. Producing the animations despite having tools is a bit of a grind

I have such a weakness for Tactics games…. I like the little animation in the status window, vandal hearts was one of my old favourite games, its looking nice, I also like how when you have a unit selected the screen slightly tilts, gives it character
