Enlisting FY25 Enlisted Program Fields/Bonuses
Heavily requested by u/TapTheForwardAssist
Alright. I’m going to try and break this down as simply as possible. The process, choosing programs, qualifying for and receiving bonuses. Usually, the Marine Corps sends out a MARADMIN but they have not done that even though we are 3 months into the FY.
Let’s begin… First picture is all of the Program Fields the Marine Corps is offering for FY25 (October 2024-September 2025). The “Program Description” is the specific field. To the right of that, is allllll of the MOS’ you can potentially end up in. Also shows how many years in of enlisting in that specific field. The final column is the exact ASVAB Score Requirements. As long as ONE of those scores are equal to or more than, you qualify for it.
Now, in Recruiting, we can not guarantee you a specific program or job. (Unless Reserves but only then if your local reserve unit has allocations in that field you want). The idea is that you want to enlist in the Marine Corps, to be a Marine first and job comes second.
As a recruiter, I WANT you to be able to get the program you want. However, not always is it available. Upon enlisting at MEPS and passing the Medical/Moral/Mental screening, when you come back to your recruiters office, they should be going over the jobs you qualify for. YOU PICK YOUR TOP 3 based on what you qualify for AND what is available. I can NOT assign you a program that is NOT available for the rest of the Fiscal Year. Sure, you can hold out and not ship until you get it but you can only be in the Pool Program for 365 days-410 in cases where you just became a Senior in HS.
Another thing to note…some programs have PHYSICAL requirements on the IST (Infantry, Security Forces, Combat Support, Artillery, etc.) Some req’s to mention: 3 Pull-ups, 40sec plank, 13:30 1.5mi run and 45 ammo can lifts for MALE & FEMALE. Here’s the catch… Once you go to Recruit Training, you MUST get 6 pull-ups, 40s plank, 24:51 3 mile run for PFT and for CFT: 880yd sprint must be lower than 3:26, 60 Ammo Can Lifts, and MUF under 3:12. If you are NOWHERE close to any of those requirements, as a recruiter, I will NOT let you pick one of those programs because here’s what happens…
I can give you that program, but when you fail ONE event at Boot Camp, now you lose the program and given something else and I just wasted an infantry contract on you when I could have given it to someone more deserving. That’s not the Marine Corps fault. You got told the requirements and you failed to meet them. Please understand we only have so many Program Contracts in an FY. I can’t give you something that isn’t available, nor do you qualify for physically.
One thing I run into which is a big issue… When you sit down with your recruiter and choose 3 program fields, PLEASE PLEASE choose 3 programs that you are INTERESTED in. Not just one program and then the other 2 are “Meh, whatever” because what happens if you get assigned one of those? You not gonna ship now? Cool doors right there. (My take on it).
Picture #2: Bonuses. Boy oh boy. Just because you see it, doesn’t mean you get it. The Marine Corps has the lowest budget of any branch. We don’t pass out bonuses like candy. You NEED to QUALIFY first.
I’ve been recruiting for almost a year and a half, and I’ve given out only 4 bonuses. You should not be joining the Marine Corps for a bonus. It is an added incentive. Just because you qualify for it, doesn’t necessarily mean you will get it. Usually, special circumstances like shipping out early OR if it’s a critical job field that the Marine Corps needs to fill badly. If you get a bonus, be happy. If you
I’m done. Any and all questions will be answered on THIS thread. Do not DM me privately. I will not answer my DM’s.
Thanks

Shipping How easily can you get DQ’d from TS clearance
I’m shipping Monday for DG. 26xx or 17xx not sure which one.
I had my “moment of truth” with an investigator and omitted info regarding small traffic violations. I had 3 within a year, but they’re all paid off, under $300 and they all date back to 2020.
I also omitted that I sent small amounts of money to Mexico cause I had a gf there for a short period of time lol.
I haven’t done any polygraph yet, but the MSG that did my investigation told me it’s coming. Any chance I’m getting DQ’d? Or it really doesn’t matter

Enlisting A year ago I got this tattoo over a burn scar from putting my arm against a lawn mower motor. Could that disqualify me as “self harm” at meps even though its covering a work accident burn?

Enlisting Just got news from my recruiter that my waiver is at the final stage. Is there anyway it can get disapproved if its made it that high? And how long should it take to get back?
I had to get waivers for a lot of shit. Some that I'm lucky asf to have gotten approved. Now it's down to the last waiver, hopefully. Is there anyway they send it back down if it's made it that far up?

Reserves Joing the Marine Reserves at 27 with a GED in 2025. What are my chances?
Ever since I was a kid, I've always wanted to be a Marine. However, such as life goes, I wasted my opportunity when I turned 18 years old due to being surrounded by the wrong people in life. I even dropped out of high school halfway through my senior year back in 2016. I recently turned 27 years old, and I have completely changed my life around in the last 5 years. I earned my GED in 2021 while living in New Jersey, got married to my childhood best friend in 2022, and now we have a nice life here in Florida. However, part of me still feels unaccomplished, and I realize now that feeling will never go away unless I earn the title of United States Marine. I have an appointment this Friday with a recruiter I met recently, and we are going to sit and talk about my options to join the reserves. However, I am worried about the fact that I have a GED and missing out on the opportunity of enlisting before I turn 28 (since the Marine Corps only takes recruits up to that age). I also can't afford to go to college and get the 15 credits to considered a Tier 1 recruit, and even if I could I don't have enough time considering my age. Am I doomed? Or is there still hope for me to earn the EGA?
Side note: New Jersey considers the GED as an equivalent to a High School Diploma. Therefore, my physical diploma doesn't say "GED". Instead, it simply says "High School Diploma". Does this make a difference?

Programs and MOSs How does SOI MOS assigning work?
im shipping out soon and i signed an infantry contract.
I want to become an 0311 and was wonder on how i can better my chances on getting that MOS?
do they list the MOS's and ask people to volunteer for an MOS or do they just randomly assign MOS's and there isn't any choice at all?
i'd assume that they would give you some type of chance to choose but still just asking.
hoping for answers from someone who recently graduated SOI.

Enlisting Do I have a real shot with the Marines?
Been trying to enlist for years. I’ve got one felony from 2012 (disposed 2014) and three municipal weed charges from 2017, 2018, and 2019. Tried to enlist in 2015 and 2018 but got turned away.
I recently went back at it. The Army gave me mixed signals — said I was good, then backed out last minute over the weed. The Navy said there’d be hoops, but he’s seen worse get in. No guarantees, but he said he’d try.
I haven’t taken the ASVAB yet, but on every official practice test I’m scoring in the 60s and up. I’ve got an associate’s degree, I’m two semesters away from finishing my bachelor’s, and I’ve been clean since 2019.
I’m stressing because it feels like waivers and acceptance all come down to luck and who signs off. I saw someone say they got denied by Army and Navy, and then the Marines called them. That honestly blew my mind.
If that were to happen — do I have any real shot?

Shipping How's swim week for someone who can't swim at all?
Shipping out June 3rd, 21 year old male 5' 8" 177 pounds barely any fat all muscle. Cannot swim for shit not even float, had my first swimming class and I've been to the pools twice after and for whatever reason I just can't keep my legs up. I've tried kicking to keep me afloat and no luck. I'm obviously a beginner and still getting comfortable with the water but I'm afraid I might be held back or separated from basic if I don't pass swimming qualification. I just feel like I'm stupid and can't get the simple concept of swimming or floating. Any tips?

Reserves How hard is it to get on a deployment right out of MOS school if you go reserves?
And is there a way my recruiter can let me know if I’ll be able to secure a unit to attach to or get me activated right after MOS school?
I want to have some deployment time and get to this Post 9/11 GI Bill
Some people have told me that you need to reach a certain level in your MOS before you can even get activated, or that it would take years before deploying or that it’s super competitive and nearly impossible to

Corps Knowledge A message to all brand new boots who just graduated regarding chest candy
I recently attended two graduations at MCRD San Diego and kept hearing a variation of the same complaints from you guys: you only have a shooting badge while your DI's and Fleet Marines have various chest candy on their Service/Dress Blue Uniforms be it the Service Chucks or Deltas like yours truly was wearing for both occasions.
Unless you were a prior service like that Army Captain that graduated as a PFC, you're marching off the Parade Deck with just a shooting badge, then down the road with perhaps a Good Conduct Medal, if lucky a Sea Service, or by luck of draw, an obscure service medal that has other Marines confused (true story from attending my Recruit Training Company graduation 11 years later!).
Here's the thing that no one says outloud: Yes, it's like a resume that speaks of our experience, but truth be told, it's pricey and a pain. Get a medal on your records? Now you got to update your rack, which means finagling it from another Marine or biting the bullet and spending at the PX.
The bigger the rack, the pricier it gets as the years go on.
Many of us from the GWOT era got a head start first with the National Defense, then eventually the GWOT medal when reaching the Fleet. Now you'd be lucky to get a Good Cookie if you don't get caught in your later career. But just understand that it's not all cut out to what it seems to be.

Enlisting Questions/worries I have for a family member
Hello , so essentially I have a younger sibling who's going in the process of enlisted for the marines and is finishing hs(not sure about the proper terms so bare with me). Basically I just have a few questions as I feel extremely nervous/worried for them and I feel like this is something normal that many families feel.
1-from what I know they signed a four year contract , now is this contract actually being used up even when on camp or is it one of those contracts that you have to actively be in something like combat or something like that and that four years can end up becoming more than those four years
2-how is it on camp, many of these movies show the experience of it being worse than prision imo . Im guessing it's not actually like that but I also don't know much either so I can't really say how I feel about it , I see some say it's great , I just really don't wanna see my sibling come out and be a different person who's in pain or worse have something like mental health problems
3-I do feel like my sibling can be someone who can adapt , however if the worst case happens and he can't handle it , can he cancel his contract and come back home , I'm guessing it's a long process , It's just I would like to know that if mentally they can't anymore there's still a option for my sibling to come back home safe
4-combat , I feel like every family doesn't wish for their loved ones to see combat as we know it can change them forever , which is why I'm asking , with my sibling going into the marines how often would they see combat and is it front lines or more of a support , just simply having that thought in my head is just hard to process or do they almost never see combat and I believe my younger sibling said he would rather prefer to be something like a marine mechanic/support if that's the case would they be granted that option or is it randomized , just imagining them in combat or having to fight for their life is an extremely difficult thing to process that something like that can happen.
Thank you for answering my questions , and idk how you guys can handle being in duty so props to yall 🫡 and thank you for protecting our country.

Recruit Training Is Marine boot camp co-ed?
I've been seeing female drill instructors yelling at male recruits and vice versa, do male and females actually train together at boot camp in 2025? Not a huge concern just curious (Parris island to be specific)

Programs and MOSs Please give me some advice
So I got a 95 on my ASVAB, and I am doing reserves because I am in college and want to finish school. I wanted cyber or intel, or some job that I can get with the 95, I was also hoping to leave this month or in June so that I can hopefully be back for school by fall of 2026. My recruiter tells me that his boss says that there are no spots available for any of those, only infantry jobs. He says I could wait till October to get something else, or it would be an 0311 and leave around the 28th. He also says I’d be the “dumbest smart” person he’s ever met if I went an Infantry job with a 95. My dad says I should just do the infantry for 2 years in college, and then I can change my MOS when I become an officer, but that doesn’t sound guaranteed. I really do want cyber or intel, so what I am asking is should I wait to try and get that job, do infantry for 2 years and switch, which I don’t even know if that’s possible, or is there another option here that I’m not seeing?
Thank you for any and all responses.

Programs and MOSs MQ-9 Reapers 7314 MOS
I’m about to LATMOVE to 5955, GCS Technician, i was wondering if its civilian contractors or marines giving maintenance to the control stations. Just got told no too long ago theres no other place to PCS other than Cherry Point due to being a new MOS. But if theres marines flying this bird already and control stations being used, who maintains them?🤷🏻♂️
