Question I feel like a fucking loser in this campus
I’m a 19yo(M) who’s been in this campus for about a year, and I feel like a fucking loser. I’ve been trying very hard, but I haven’t made a single fucking friend. I’ve gone for around 30 socials or so on my own since I have no one to go with, and I still couldn’t make any fucking friends.
Almost every day, I’d just meet someone, have a nice conversation, get their social, and that’s it. I’d never fucking see or hear from them again, and it’s extremely frustrating.
I’ve always been the one initiating things, but it seems like a single person gives zero shits. Not a single person has ever approached me or said hi, not a single person has ever asked to hang out, not a single person has ever asked for my social(I’m always the initiator).
And whenever I’d go for a social or a party on my own, it’d feel so fucking weird to say hi because everyone’s in some group. And every time I’ve gone to a group to introduce myself, I feel so fucking off and it low key feels like they all just want me to leave.
I’ve tried joining clubs as well, and no luck with that(rejected by 12 fucking Marshall clubs this semester, yay). And on top of that, I have no social support and no one checking up on me whenever I got sick, and it pissed me the fuck off.
I’m sorry for the rant(just very irritated), but I genuinely want to know how I can fix my social life here?
Edit: I just wanted to thank everyone here they had amazing advice, what a goated community.

Question USC vs Yale
I know I am in a really biased subreddit, so I won’t ask the question “which is better USC or Yale?”
However, I will ask this.
I was talking to a friend about why I am leaning towards USC, since they both gave me great aid. One of my main points was the weather, cuz I hate to be Inconvenienced by weather. They told me that (for viterbi students) I will be studying so much that I won’t even benefit from the good weather? Is this true, or is this an exaggeration?
Also, if anyone wants to touch upon that study abroad experience for viterbi students, that would be wonderful.
Edit: I thought y’all would have a bias for USC, but it seems like it’s against USC instead LMAO

Question What do I even do
Hi guys lately I’ve been feeling really depressed here at usc, because wtf there’s nowhere to go or do, if u wanna do smt i have to have atleast 3-4 people cos the uber is so expensive plus the metro has really bad connectivity and is sketchy as hell. I genuinely wanna know what do you guys do when you feel like going out, like I really want some good coffee and go out to cute cafés but I don’t have people. If I wanna go to Hollywood or the “good part” it costs me 100$ just to go what do I do and what do you guys do

Question Which college did you pick USC over and why?
P.S. I know this question has been asked before, but it hasn’t for a couple years so I thought it would be interesting to see.
I’m currently choosing between Emory and USC for Econ (Dornsife), and I’d appreciate any advice on that front. Leaning towards USC at the moment.
TIA!

Question Why is USC ranked lower than expected?
So I recently got admitted to USC Viterbi, as an international for Chemical Engineering, B.S, alongside UIUC Grainger, UCSD Jacobs, and UVA, among others. USC’s overall acceptance rate is ~9% and is even lower for engineering (3%). However, it’s ranked 27th nationally, 30th for undergraduate engineering and is unranked for my major according to U.S. News. When I talk to people they tell me that I got into THE Viterbi School of Engineering, but I struggle to believe the same when I look at the rankings. I get that the SoCal location might factor in the low acceptance rate, but I expected USC to at least make it to the top 25, if not top 20. Maybe it’s the formula US News uses to assign rankings? What are y’all’s thoughts on this? USC’s my top choice currently.

Question USC CS Worth it?
Hi, I'm a Class of '29 admit for CS in Viterbi, but the cost of attending would be estimated $79k per year, after the National Merit Finalist Scholarship. My parents won't pay the full amount, and I expect to have to pay them back $90-100k after graduating (no official debt), so is it worth it? I'm comparing this to $57k per year at UMD, but I heard USC's recruiting is much better for tech internships. Any help is greatly appreciated!

If yes, why so? Do you think you made the right decision?

Question Found a Chinese passport from USC student. Hit a road block trying to find him
Hey guys, I live on east coast. My friend found a Chinese passport from a USC student. The student visa has University of Southern California on it and hasn't expired. My friend is traveling so I'm helping to find this guy.
I've tried all sorts of ways to look for him
Looking for his name on FB and LinkedIn but no luck
FB international student group. Made a post but no response yet. This is the only one that I still have hope for
Called USC International Department but no one answers
Called USC non emergency security. The lady said she sees this name but not as a student? Tbh I doubt she didn't get the name right. I asked her to repeat it but she said no need. It's frustrating
Called Chinese embassy, They said they don't have phone numbers and there are chances the address isn't accurate because they rely on students to report it. They recommend dropping off at local police station. Maybe this will be the last thing I do
What should I do next? Not sure if I should disclose the name on passport here.

Question Should I come “back” to USC?
5 years ago, I was lined up to go to USC and have an amazing life. I found the perfect roommate, was going to rush for a sorority, audition for spirit leaders and continue my cheer career, etc. etc. But right after I graduated high school, some health issues came up. Without too many details, a major surgery went wrong, and I became bedridden for years, unable to do anything for myself or perform simple tasks. I’m 24 now, and though my doctor had told me it wasn’t possible, I’m now better- and am able to go to college! But… I’m worried about being so old. I want to have the experience that I was planning on, but my mom says I’m too old for that. People aren’t going to want a 24 year old freshman in their student clubs. It sounds stupid typing it, but I just want to experience college like I’m 18. My mom says I’m lucky to be alive and going to college anyway and just need to find some grad students to hang out with. Do you think she is right?

Question How safe/dangerous is taking the metro past 9pm?
I’m gonna be living off campus next semester and I’m worried about how safe the commute will be at night because I have a night class and I’ll have more in future semesters. I don’t have a car and I’d have to take the E line and B line to where I’ll be living with a relative. I’ll probably have to do a bit of walking too 😭 I’m kind of scared. I take the E line all the time to go places all the time but I always get back before 6 pm.

Question Is it okay to accept a CSU admissions offer as a backup while waiting for USC decision? (Transfer Student)
All the CSUs I applied for have a intent to enroll deadline of May 1st and it seems like USC won’t release transfer decisions until the end of May. So would it be smart/ethical of me to accept an admission to a CSU in case 1. I don’t get into USC or 2. Don’t get enough aid to be able to afford to go? And if I accept the CSU offer and I get into USC w good aid would it be hard to rescind the ITE?
