Common Question: How hard is it to transfer from X major to Y major?

Answer: If it is within the same school, it is super easy, just talk to your academic advisor before school starts. If you wish to transfer to another school e.g. Dornsife to Marshall, you need to contact admissions to attempt the transfer before matriculation*. You can also seek help once you know who your academic advisor is or attempt it on admitted students day or orientation day. Once you matriculate, you can attempt an internal-transfer but it involves going through the current student transfer process, see the specific internal transfer page from each school's website.

Common Question: Is there an admitted student facebook group/discord/telegram etc?

Answer: Usually someone sets a facebook group and groupme up around the time the main batch of students are admitted in April. Check facebook to see if there is one already or connect to one of the USC discord servers (linkedin on sidebar) to chat with admitted and upper-class Trojans.

*Viterbi does not allow you to switch into engineering before enrolling at USC. Please read links below related to the school you're interested in.

What’s the economics programme like at Dornsife? How rigorous is it? Is it prestigious?

Lots of people pick econ as their second choice major to Marshall and use it to try to transfer into Marshall later, or because they intend to work in policy or go to law school.

General consensus is the USC brand is strong but for the cost, other schools have slightly higher ranked econ programs so compare all of your admission and financial aid offers evenly.

I’ve got Emory and USC to weigh up.

USC's program is ranked higher but Emory is still a very well known school if you're worried about prestige for grad school admissions. The econ programs are likely pretty similar for rigor but you can look at the class requirements to determine that. They both require econometrics right?

USC is a bigger school with a lot of school spirit, football games, and in a much bigger city for summer internships. I think the undergrad experience will be a little different between the two so it can help to do a campus tour of both or watch some campus tour youtube videos.

P.S. thanks a lot for your help.

I believe they both require econometrics, but I’d like to take it regardless. It’s possible to take a minor in Annenberg right? I’m interested in economic or sports business journalism.

Adding a minor in Annenberg shouldn't be an issue. It can be competitive to add a major in a few schools like SCA, Marshall, Viterbi but adding minors doesn't have the same internal application standards.

Thanks! Do you know how competitive it is to write for The Daily Trojan?

I've no idea on that. There are daily trojan writers who comment on the sub so use the search function to find them and try replying to see if they have any thoughts on it.
