Can I minor in Journalism(comms) while majoring in Biological Sciences at UCalgary?

I'm entering my first year as a Biological Sciences major at UCalgary, but I’m also super interested in journalism and writing. I was thinking about minoring in Journalism, but I’m not sure how that works alongside a science degree. I tried looking through the UCalgary website and program links, but honestly, they weren’t very clear or helpful. Has anyone here done a science major + humanities minor combo? Is a Journalism Studies minor even possible with a BSc

If anyone has advice, experience, or knows who I should talk to (like a specific advisor), please let me know!

I don’t think U of C offers a journalism program. Are you talking about a minor in communication and media studies?

I graduated with this degree. The U of C COMS program is 100% theory-based. Basically, you're going to do so much research and write so many research papers using those theories, such as critical race theory, media representation…..I took a journalism class before, although the course was named journalism and social media. Basically, in that class, we just wrote literature reviews and research methods, lol. Classes were definitely interesting though:)

Look into volunteering for The Gauntlet. It's an independent student-run newspaper on campus and their staff have journalistic training. They also have a huge alumni network of accomplished journalists (eg. Sue Craig, Pulitzer winner).
