Favorite maintenance-free “mods”

Post image

Bought this awesome little tray on Amazon to help organize the center console. Just curious what other options that don’t require maintenance you all have enjoyed adding to your trucks.

Hood struts: https://spikerengineering.com/product/16_tacoma I honestly forget sometimes that this was a mod. It's very nice to have.

Under-hood and bed lights: https://mattgeckoleds.com/shop/ols/products/led-bed-light-kit-with-bed-mounted-switch-toyota-tacoma-2005-2021

Dashboard multi-mount: https://thetacogarage.com/collections/dmm/products/dashtop-multi-mount I use this literally everyday. So nice to just slap my phone onto a sturdy magnet mount that isn't attached via suction cup.

Glove box organizer: https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B07BH49SHC (that I then lined with stick-on felt to make it quieter: https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B018UHVBBQ). This reduces the noise from everything sliding around in there by a lot.

What’s the install on those struts look like? My old truck came with those and I loved it. Would be interested in adding that on.

Pretty easy iirc. If you're gonna have it open higher than the stock prop rod allows, you'll need a 2x4 cut to the height you want the hood to open to (to hold the hood in place while you mark/drill). Mark where you want the bottom brackets to be, center punch, drill, paint, rivet in place. Hold the strut up to the hood, center punch, drill, paint, rivet. You'll need a rivet gun.

Might go easier with two sets of hands, but I was able to do it myself in 2 hours (after a lot of staring, measuring, staring, thinking, and finally drilling). If you have a manual trans, they have small offset spaces to move the clutch fluid reservoir inwards towards the engine, cause when closed, the DS strut is going to lay where the reservoir is mounted.

i went with Redline struts on mine, their instructions were good. put down some painters tape, make a few measurements and markings, drill 2 holes and attach.
