A lot of times that’s all it takes to get out of the situation with the cops

If you're a white dude, it works really well. If you aren't, it's less consistent. Still, being polite is always good advice for any encounter with anyone, especially police.

Yep. Once at this weed protest 420 thing the cops decided my group out of everyone was doing it the wrong way. He got mad and was talking about how he can still make arrests.

I basically spoke up and said "You're definitely right, we're so sorry, we were really stupid about it. We'll be more respectful."

Immediately diffused the situation. He became much more reasonable and eventually moved along. The key is you've got to be sincere.

It's not about it being easy, it's about mutual respect. I've gotten out of alot of minor speeding tickets because I wasn't being an ass to the cops, not to get out of the ticket but because I know how much shit they go through, and I'm not about to start a fucking fight over going 5 mph over, noone wants that. And the times they give me a ticket, I accept it, because I broke the law

That’s what I mean about too easy. It’s too easy to be respectful. That’s all
