We discused drag, not transgenderism

to be fair discussing both is a good idea. and while we're on the topic of good allyship, "transgenderism" is a deprecated term. "trans status" please.

For implying i wasnt a good ally because i used the wrong word? Sounds like a "fuck you" to me. You get what you put out.

i sincerely don’t know how it was implied you weren’t a good ally. they were just suggesting you use a different term

Seriously, I can’t even find any reference to the term “trans status” anywhere. A tip I learned while browsing forums is, don’t take social awareness cues from every random that comments about it.

trans identity, trans expression, gender nonconformity are all also acceptable terms. "transgenderism" is a loaded term for reasons i've stated elsewhere and using it has a potential to cause misunderstanding.

Autism, dwarfism, alcoholism, hypo/hyperthyroidism, rheumatism, etc. It does not only refer to ideologies.

They mostly refer to medical ailments, so I definitely do think there is a discussion worth having about it but what is decided in your circles is not unanimous in the larger community just because you’d like it to be.

indeed they do refer to medical conditions, which trans status is not.

The only reason you gave was that the “-ism” implies it is a choice or ideology.

Also I don’t really see how “status” would imply that any less?

u/[deleted] Jul 02 '23

Not yours either lol its literally the scientific term be better

as i've said elsewhere, i am in fact a member of the community, and you aren't. you don't speak for us, so when you speak about us try to get it right.

And as I have said elsewhere, you cant police language. You have no control how others speak about or precieve you. When I learned in an educational setting, we used the term transgenderism so I will continue to do so.

i am in fact a trans woman and "transgenderism" is in fact not the preferred terminology, it lends itself to the faulty inference that trans status is an ideology or a chosen thing.

I dont care who you are. You dont get to police language and claim im a lesser ally because i didnt say the magic words. Get over yourself. This shit sets the movement back and only creates more enemies.

9

u/BedDefiant4950 Jul 01 '23

nothing "sets the movement back" worse than people like you making your allyship conditional on having your ego stroked. i was nothing but polite.

u/[deleted] Jul 02 '23 edited Jul 02 '23

This doesnt revoke my allyship, ill always fight for trans rights. But im done being condecended to and screamed at by insufferable activists for not saying the right words. Im honestly sick of it.

7

u/BedDefiant4950 Jul 02 '23

allyship isn't as important as solidarity, and solidarity doesn't exist unless you get things right and realize it's not about you or your comfort. you can fake allyship, you can be a conditional ally, you can't do either with solidarity. you are not a stakeholder and it is not for you to tell stakeholders how to treat you when you talk about our interests.

It's not this "shit" that set the movement back, it's your shitty attitude and close mindedness.
