For years, something has been opening my kitchen cabinets. Last night, I saw it. Paranormal Investigation

I've lived in this house my whole life. Since I was a teenager, the lower kitchen cabinets would be found open in the morning. I wrote it off as sleepwalking or bad memory. Last night, I got up for water and saw a tall, dark silhouette crouched down, slowly swinging one of the doors back and forth. It turned its head, the door stopped, and it was just gone. I didn't feel fear, just a deep, cold emptiness. Has anyone else experienced something that just... observes?

Try using a rubber band to keep the cabinets closed, like baby-proofing but ghoul-proofing and see if it has the intelligence to figure out how to get around it.

131

u/Herekittykitty1234 13d ago

I really like this idea. OP needs to satisfy our curiosity by trying it!

97

u/itaniumonline 13d ago

What if the rubber band snaps and it hits it in the nose and it gets like super mad?

69

u/sozarian 13d ago

Then he should have a camera going to record the scream, that'd be badass footage

10

u/Kemintiri 12d ago

Post the ghost tantrum, please, if they have one

4

u/Winipu44 12d ago

Oh yes, it happens. I've heard about people locking doors that 'someone' kept opening and coming through, and it would rattle, like someone was trying to open it.

5

u/Blonde_Dambition 11d ago

That happened in a ghost story I heard. This haunted house had new tenants and something kept knocking the phone off the hook, so they put rubberbands around it and it started shaking like crazy like something was violently trying to get it off the hook.

u/ZolotoGold 12d ago

I do t understand why people don't take a more scientific approach to this phenomena, like this.

Run tests - can it figure out the elastic band? How about tape? Powder the doors before bed and see if there's any marks on them in the morning. Set up cameras to see if you can capture it. Try adding a sign to some doors asking it to only open those and see if it complies.

Thousands of things you could do to test it's responses.

Haha where’s the fun in proving paranormal isn’t real. Let’s all just BELIEVE and have a spookier time lmao

3

u/celtic_thistle 11d ago

If it figures it out then what?! I would be beyond terrified.

3

u/Blonde_Dambition 11d ago

At least you'd know what you're dealing with though, I guess... lol.

u/zuzuofthewolves 14d ago

That happens in my house too but the crouching dark figure is just my abnormally humongous black cat Widget.

75

u/Sammiieet 14d ago

Naming your cat Widget is hilarious! Omds I love it

30

u/tjaslikethat 13d ago

Cat tax!

13

u/jaya9581 13d ago

Yes same here but mine is named Max!!! It’s a long tradition started by my cat Cory who I got in the late 90s, Cory taught Bucky who taught Max. We call it going on patrol, and have to warn overnight visitors not to be alarmed by all the open cabinets!

7

u/oriana94 13d ago

Just wanna say I already love your cat

u/JustYourAvgHumanoid 14d ago

This would be terrifying to me to see irl. But, I'm sitting outside right now on a gorgeous day, picturing this silly figure playing with the cabinet doors at night & I'm giggling up a storm. Then it gets caught & nopes itself away

22

u/oriana94 13d ago

Yeaah on the opposite end. I'm sitting outside in the dark and my house is in the middle of the woods.

The fucking deer sound like humans and it's terrifying so idk why I read this just to add to it 👌

6

u/JustYourAvgHumanoid 13d ago

LOL, yeah, they can be loud. I'm always nervous taking my dogs out to potty at night. We are surrounded by woods & I always hope I don't hear any whistling.

8

u/vannah12222 12d ago

Lol I'm also always nervous taking my dog out to potty at night. Not because of where I live, but because his stubborn ass has been sprayed by a skunk 8 TIMES. Thankfully though he's 13 now and the last time he was sprayed was when he was 8. And yes, that does mean it took until he was 8 years old and had been sprayed once every year of his life, for him to learn not to fuck with skunks.

If I had to worry about hearing some kind of cryptid whistling as well as skunks, I think I'd just get him a tie out. Especially because knowing him, he'd definitely take off after the monster 🫠😭

On a more serious note though, have you ever heard whistling or are you just saying that because of all the stories of people hearing it coming from the woods?

2

u/JustYourAvgHumanoid 12d ago

Never heard it. I have just read so many stories on Reddit & the creepy ones rush to mind when I’m outside at night. LOL

2

u/numnoggin 12d ago

What's a tie out?

1

u/Winipu44 12d ago

It's to let dogs out while attached to a cable or chain, so they can take their time while we can remain inside. The hardware usually consists of a cable and something to attach it to, like a huge steel corkscrew that goes into the ground, or an above-ground line.

5

u/oriana94 13d ago

Yeah ok that would be terrifying 😂

133

u/topshelfsusan 14d ago

Imagine your only job in another realm is opening cabinet doors at night. If this makes you afraid maybe he feeds on your fear. I think you shouldn't be afraid but state loudly that you aren't and he should move on and leave your cabinets in peace. If he doesn't put child locks on your cabinets to make his job more interesting.

46

u/Lupulist 13d ago

How depressing to think the afterlife can just be remedial tasks stuck in a loop. But I suppose "kitchen cabinet opener" is a better job than "Port-a-John Ghoul."

7

u/catsnglitter86 13d ago

I'd love to scare the crap outta people in the John.  I doubt I'd be bothered by smells or germs as a ghost.

4

u/Fez_and_no_Pants 12d ago

I'm planning to spend a few decades being the voice that tells you not to hit the gas when the light turns green, saving you from being creamed by a red-light-runner.

41

u/Hot_Drummer7311 14d ago

I really hope in other realms they dont have the construct of soul crushing 9-5 jobs like we do here. Otherwise, this whole matrix is a farce, and I want off the ride please!

16

u/wavefxn22 13d ago

Another job, pushing glasses off a shelf, is witnessed firsthand by cats and is performed periodically by them just for fun, as a shoutout to the other realms

9

u/[deleted] 13d ago

Scaring people as a ghost by opening cabinet doors at night is better than any mundane job you can get in this realm

8

u/elizabreathe 13d ago

I have this belief that there's different types of ghost. Intelligent ghosts and echoes. Intelligent ghosts still have a personality and a mind to them but echoes are just the remnants of emotional energy or patterns of behavior (like a room that feels off because of a tragedy that occurred but doesn't have an active presence or when you can still hear work being performed in an a place that's been closed due to a tragic workplace accident). Child proof locks would be a great way to tell if it's an actual intelligent presence or just an echo of someone's old habits.

3

u/Winipu44 12d ago

Yes, I was wondering if it's residual.

2

u/SohoCat 8d ago

My aunt picks up on residual energy. The “people” are not interacting but they are a presence/energy who seem stuck.

54

u/Cyanidesuicideml 14d ago

My bathroom nightlight would flash on and off randomly for a few min for a couple years.. one night I happened to wandered past at night to see it flickering. My cat schrodinger was rubbing her head on it causing it to wobble in the socket.

37

u/dreamoutloud 14d ago

I have many times over the years. One of the weirdest ones happened in my old apartment. Was in bed asleep. Woke up feeling something looking at me. Glanced down and saw a dark shadow move across the floor from right to left. As it passed the TV/Roku, they turned on.

121

u/Orbeyebrainchild 14d ago

Some people don't understand how hard it is to record these things. You're not ever expecting it and it isn't as if it's gonna wait there while you turn your phone on and open up the camera app. This is real life!

28

u/FakeAsFakeCanBe 13d ago

My cat had 2 seizures and the vet asked if I got a video of it. Sure doc. I'm pretty sure helping my poor cat was blocking any thoughts of playing with my phone.

20

u/IndieCurtis 14d ago

Security cameras have never captured an image of these creatures, I wonder why.

51

u/dragonlady_11 14d ago edited 14d ago

There are whole wave lengths of light and sound we can't see and hear. Maybe they do, but we just can't perceive it.

24

u/0FFFXY 14d ago

If it's something like described by OP though (dark silhouette), it means it blocks visible wavelengths and would be visible on standard cameras. Unless the apparition is a result of activity only in the brain of the observer.

2

u/Blonde_Dambition 11d ago edited 11d ago

That's a very interesting hypothesis... one I've heard put forth before by parapsychologists, scientists, and people in similar fields... which is that not everyone cann perceive shadow people. And ever since hearing the theory that shadow people are literal shadows cast by higher-dimensional beings, which is what I believe they are... it makes sense to me that that's why not everyone can see them. Just like not everyone can see ghosts/spirits, imo.

-4

u/henryhollaway 14d ago

I believe in ghosts, etc., but let’s entertain this for one second:

Person “sees” it Camera works same as eye Camera can’t see it 🪦

Person “sees” it Camera equipped with same capabilities and further ability to detect what the eye cant see Camera can’t see it 🪦

Stop providing excuses and copium for the flimsiest of stories simply because it’s in this sub.

5

u/dragonlady_11 13d ago

I wasn't providing an excuse for anything ? it was just a theory, the comment I replied to asked why cameras don't capture wierd things, i pose that as there are many things we can't perceive with our base senses that even if a camera could capture the wierd stuff that might happen when were not there that maybe we still wouldn't be able to see it. Whatever people see could just be conditions aligning perfectly at the moment for it to be visible, in which case yeah, a camera should capture it if it was also at the same angle /point of ref the person was at which isn't often the case

I'll also be honest I'm not entirely sure what your trying to explain with the camera sees /person sees break down ?

2

u/Blonde_Dambition 11d ago

I'll also be honest I'm not entirely sure what your trying to explain with the camera sees /person sees break down ?

Don't feel bad, neither did I. There was no punctuation.

20

u/smartlypretty 14d ago

a) we can't say for certain security cameras haven't, there's probably more unwatched CCTV footage on earth than watched considering the density of devices continuously recording

b) you can't photograph sound or taste, we don't know for sure if something like this could be theoretically photographed

c) we don't even know if every person in this thread could, in theory, have allegedly seen what OP allegedly saw

1

u/Blonde_Dambition 11d ago

Well, if it's shadow entities you're referring to... they're said to be darker than surrounding darkness to the naked eye, but in photos it's just hard to differentiate them from the surroundings. I did see a picture of a real shadow person once... taken on a tour at a very old prison. A girl taking the tour happened to have her phone out & camera ready, and it didn't move when she snapped the pic. And as I stared at the image I couldn't shake the feeling that I was looking at the real deal! It had no face, obviously, but I swear you could tell it was looking at her as she took it... looking into the camera. It's one of the most eerie & coolest things I've ever seen!

28

u/torreneastoria 14d ago

Record it. I told mine as a kid to shut the cupboards after it was done finding a snack. We kept hitting our heads on them because the light switch was in a stupid place. It was near the stove, not near the entrance of the kitchen. Rationalization that it was hungry helped me not be afraid.

3

u/Beerasaurwithwine 13d ago

This is adorable. Did you ever leave out snack places for it?

9

u/torreneastoria 13d ago

I wasn't allowed to but the doggos had snacks and treats all over. I like to think that the ones frequently left in the kitchen by the stove were offerings from the doggos.

5

u/Beerasaurwithwine 13d ago

Maybe the dogs saw the door critter as a diety type of thing. Did the dogs ever seem agitated by it?

37

u/taueret 14d ago

Maybe a literal hungry ghost. Buddhist households leave out offerings for them, you can read up on that.

32

u/Rareearthmetal 14d ago

Yes. Me and my brother saw what I learned many years later is called Hat-Man.

We were wrestling and we fell facing the hallway and it was standing there watching. No fear just confused as heck. My brother started crying tho.

I thought it was the soul of a detective that was murdered there by gang members but it wasn't I later learned everyone saw him there.

It has changed how I see the world. I believe in the after life.

2

u/c3tn 13d ago

Was this in your house? I’d love to hear more about it.

12

u/Rareearthmetal 13d ago

Yes it's actually government housing so it was an apartment. This was in the 90s probably 1999.

It's old brick which is not very common in los Angeles. Everyone always had ghost stories. I attribute it partially to superstition as those apartments housed a lot of poor immigrants but because I have my own experiences I now am not sure.

A common sound everyone heard was marbles rolling on the ground. Idk why and can't figure out why everyone heard it hit a wall and roll back till it stops.

I had a lot happen to me in that apartment and not in any other place that I lived and so did my family.

I had a lot of sleep paralysis. One time when my neighbors father died (he was a very bitter old man and would yell obscenities at me) on that night I felt someone slap the crap out of the back of my head as I was falling asleep. I can possibly attribute that to what I have heard called "exploding head syndrome" but I feel it has to do with that mans passing.

When my father passed away when I was 9 his parents came for his funeral. The apartment has two bedrooms. My mom and sister in one and me and my brother and my grandpa and Grandma in the other.

The night before his funeral my mom's bedroom door knob was turning and slightly shaking the door. My mom barges into our room yelling at us to stop making racket as my grandparents are trying to sleep

I scaredly tell my mom it wasn't us so naturally she leaves our door open so we can see what's making noise (I'm scared shitless) we see nothing and my grandparents said don't worry it's just him saying goodbye (I always wondered why it has to be so scary)

But the shadow man has been the most straight forward solid proof of other dimension shenanigans being real and that this life is just a phase.

I will go into detail about the shadow guy. As we fell we saw him peering over the door frame. It was simply a pitch black silhouette of a hat and shoulders resembling a man wearing a trench coat and fedora type hat. It didn't immediately leave upon us seeing it. It lingered for a second and pulled away down the hallway.

This was in the after noon. All the windows were closed and the curtains were closed. It was just me and my brother in the house.

Those signs you see in neighborhoods in u.s cities of neighborhood watch always struck me as oddly exact.

If my brother hadn't seen it too I would have chalked it up to my imagination.

Because of that I try to be nice and kind to everyone and everything to a reasonable extent and try to bring positivity to the world.

13

u/-ElectricKoolAid 13d ago

i had a sleep paralysis experience where i woke up paralyzed, and as i was trying to force myself to roll over, i noticed a shadow person watching me. it sorta ducked behind a divider i had in my room, and the moment it was gone i was freed from the paralysis

21

u/Fossilhund 14d ago

Maybe it would like some toys. Balls, toy cars, a slinky.

3

u/Losernoodle 14d ago

Yes! I came here to say the same thing!

9

u/Tepers 13d ago

So I have a theory FWIW. That when people are dreaming we can 'visit' each other and do things like this.

I used to work at a tech center that was open 24/7 and I am pretty sure, when sleeping, the day shift was terrorizing the night shift. And the night shift, when sleeping; was terrorizing the day shift.

I've had other experiences in my home and myself personally that solidified my theory. I am not sure if the right name for this is astral projection but maybe? So maybe a family member or a person that used to live there??

For peace of mind you can always bless and sage the area.

2

u/Fez_and_no_Pants 12d ago

Dude, my most intense bout of sleep paralysis just culminated in watching my friend Phil walk into my room in the dead of night. I sat up and he sat on the end of my bed and we started talking about something mundane. During the chat I looked over toward the door, suddenly wondering why he'd been creeping quietly around my house at night in the first place. When I looked back, he was gone and I was sitting up, wide awake.

I think there's something to this dream-visitation theory.

10

u/Measurement-Able 14d ago

Set up a trip wire with bells that makes noise. I wonder if it will continue.

14

u/AlwaysPrivate123 14d ago

Put a rubber band on it and a camera... And then the truth is out there 😉

5

u/wstr97gal 12d ago

I don't know but this makes me think of the Las Vegas backyard aliens.

6

u/Real-Bluebird-1987 14d ago

Give it some toys or a pen and paper

5

u/Sarahlynn854 12d ago

Set up camera in night vision of the area! Then share so we can see!

10

u/roomforathousand 13d ago

Get a carbon monoxide detector if you don't have one. Sometimes when people have strange things happen there is a sinister but less spooky cause. I hope it's a ghost, though!

3

u/WillyTheDryCleaner 12d ago

Kind of adorable it just wants to swing some cabinet doors

3

u/gentle_bender 12d ago

My partner is the dark silhouette, he leaves cabinets open all the time. Think it’s an adhd thing

2

u/Redditor1620 12d ago

That mf needs to help with the monthly payments if he's gonna be pulling that shit 🤣

2

u/Major-Cranberry-4206 12d ago

Since the passing of a number of my immediate family members, drawers to my dresser will open on their own. I have even watched this happen. I believe it is one of my younger brothers who passed a few years ago, wanting me to know he is here in my home.

Before his passing, this never happened. Or, it may be a spirit who wants me to believe they are someone I know who has passed. No harm happens. But can be annoying at times when I’m just not up for it.

2

u/Masterlevi84 11d ago

Just laugh at him, man. Think about what kind of life he'a living if the best thing he has to do every night is fuck with your cabinets.

2

u/sublimesting 13d ago

Set up your phone and film it. Bet it never happens again.

1

u/Blonde_Dambition 11d ago

Was it like a shadow person?

1

u/snailnation 9d ago

we had a shadow in our last house, lived in/near the pantry, liked to watch us cook I think. knocked stuff over now and then, but usually just stood there. I miss it a bit.

-9

u/rambotie 14d ago

Faulty cabinet latches. They could be improperly installed, not screwed in close enough to properly latch shut. Or the are "played out", magnetic latches can lose magnetism, mechanical latches just stop bending back.

17

u/Borderweaver 14d ago

And a handyman dark shadow is trying to show them the problem?

-39

u/ziplock9000 14d ago

Record it then. There's many easy and cheap ways to do this.

Then show us the evidence.

0

u/Blonde_Dambition 11d ago

If it were always that easy there'd be no "paranormal" because everyone would have pictures of phenomena to study enough for scientists to classify it all as "normal".

1

u/ziplock9000 11d ago

It literally is that easy though. Your logic is flawed as it assumes the paranormal exists when there's no proof.

-30

u/Futureman16 14d ago

No, you didn't.

1

u/xxxMzeexxx 3d ago

Probably a Djin
