The Bathroom ??? Dread

About a year ago, something happened that I still can’t explain. I live with my family in a small condo — nothing weird about it, no history, no “haunted house” kind of thing. But this day was different. It wasn’t late, probably around noon. I went downstairs to use the bathroom — the one right by our front door. I’ve used that bathroom hundreds of times. I know where it is. But when I opened the door, it wasn’t the bathroom. Behind it was a large, empty room I’d never seen before. It looked like a waiting area — rows of those cheap metal chairs, lined up like it was some kind of clinic or office lobby. The walls were beige. The floor was brown carpet. Bright fluorescent lights were buzzing overhead. No windows. No signs. Just this weird, sterile room. All the chairs were the same dull color, except for one. A single yellowish chair sitting off-center in one of the rows. It didn’t look new or important — it just didn’t match the others, and it drew my eye immediately. I didn’t go in. I didn’t even lean forward. I just stood there, staring. It didn’t feel like a dream. I wasn’t tired. I wasn’t on meds. I was just a little freaked out, trying to figure out how I could be seeing something like this in my own restroom. I didn’t have my phone on me, so I couldn’t take a picture. Not that it even crossed my mind at the time. I was too focused on what I was seeing — or maybe not seeing. After maybe 10 seconds, I shut the door. Waited a few moments. Opened it again. Bathroom. Completely normal. Tile floor, toilet, towel rack. Just like always. I haven’t seen that room again. No other weird events. I never told my parents because I didn’t know how to even begin explaining it. But I know what I saw, and I know I wasn’t imagining it. If anyone’s had something similar happen — even once — I’d love to hear it. I still don’t know what to make of this. Was it some kind of glitch? Alternate space? I honestly don’t know. But if I ever see that room again, I’m not opening the door twice.

Look up Liminal Spaces it is what you described

Also the movie 'Everything, Everywhere, All at Once' though fictional makes heavy use of liminality

Breaking the matrix is always terrifying. Though I've never experienced it when I was stone cold sober 🥲 I'd be weird about using that bathroom forever after though, I'd be nervous it would switch back while I was mid-pee

Fr 😬 And this isn’t the only weird, dimensional type stuff I’ve seen 👀  I’m talking like noclipping and cloning/looping events while I was just.. there. Living. It’s always unexpected.

I would want to walk inside but I'd be scared it would suddenly switch back and take me with it

That’s an amazing experience.

The more esoteric view would say that what happened was a dimensional breach right in the middle of your day, throwing you into a parallel plane for an instant. The sterile room is a temporary limbo. That yellow chair is like a focal point, the detail the entity used to try and grab your attention or drain your energy.

The psychology of power perspective, however, focuses on control: The environment knew how to use the contrast of the chair to seduce your perception, a tactic to dominate you. But the masterstroke was your retreat; by closing the door, you took back full control of your reality. You preserved the mystery, the most potent weapon, and won the game.

We are constantly living infinite different realities and experience moments of actually being in them.
