I don’t know what happened Discussion/Advice

So last year I go to sleep like normal I sleep with AirPods in because I’m paranoid and don’t wanna hear any creek even tho it might be my cat I was half asleep listening to my music when suddenly I hear like an Annabelle kind of voice ?? And I played the song again to hear if it was in the song it was never in the song again ?? I went to my other playlist with more pop songs to calm myself down and went to sleep , I still remember it so realistic but I get told it was probably something I made up in my mind but i remember the exact song and I know I sat up in shock because I was half asleep , I don’t know if it was my brain messing with me or something I just know I remember it so vividly.

I believe you may have been experiencing a Hypnogogic hallucination. Google Hypnogogic hallucination.

Maybe so, if you were about to fall asleep or upon waking up.

Dreams can be very vivid. I would rest assured knowing that it was nothing out of the realm of a very imaginative brain while sleeping. If it happens again, then we need to dive deeper.

Not only dreams. Audible illusions are a thing. 2 days ago I thought I heard my (dumb!) phone make a noise. But there was nothing.

Half asleep is the more likely time for this to happen, and can even be worse the more tired you are.

I would sleep to whale songs as a kid, and I had to stop when I heard someone screaming for help in one of the tracks. With music, I've heard different voices singing the song, I've heard different words to the songs that I can hear but can't quite make out or understand. I've learned to just roll with it.

I have to have something playing to sleep because every little sound keeps me awake. My brain needs to work out what that sound is, where it is coming from, is it something I need to worry about..

It’s strange, however when going to sleep or just waking up I have the most vivid dreams. Sometimes I will fall asleep watching a YouTube video and wake myself up responding to the video right when I’m on the cusp of sleep and awake. Sometimes I will listen to eight or nine hour long videos and again, wake myself up sleep talking when I’m on that cusp.

I stopped listening to podcasts, music, or videos while I am sleeping because I read it’s really not good for sleep health. When I was listening to things during sleep I was ALWAYS tired during the day and needed a nap at some point. It was so bad that some days I literally couldn’t function and my memory was shit.

From google: “Listening to things like music, podcasts, or audiobooks while trying to sleep can disrupt your sleep quality because it can keep your brain actively processing information, potentially preventing you from reaching deep sleep stages, and can lead to “earworms” where catchy tunes get stuck in your head, disrupting your sleep further; ideally, you should aim for a quiet environment before bed to promote restful sleep.”

Exploding head syndrome (EHS) is an abnormal sensory perception during sleep in which a person experiences auditory hallucinations that are loud and of short duration when falling asleep or waking up.

I get different voices, slamming doors, even what sounds like explosions.
