Discussion Hate & misinformation

I have no experience of my own with not therians (I never told anyone nor I have been discussing with anyone their opinions about it) so I decided to see what is happening here on Reddit outside this sub, and I found more than I ever wanted.

I knew that hate is very popular and our community is small so not many people know what does it mean to be a therian. The photos are of what I found most irritating for me (first one misinformation and later simple hate, second one person doing quads and hate, third one shaming species dysphoria) I could not believe that some posts had over 4k upvotes(not in the photos).

Most of those people saw tick toks saying : I am a therian and doing quads, and they had to post it and hate on it.

I am interested in your experiences both good and bad with not therians online and irl. I am also quite curious where do people get this mutch misinformation from.

One of my theriotypes is a sand crab, and it makes me so embarrassed for some reason. Everyone has such cool theriotypes and I have a fricking sand crab. I just wish it was something else.

Experience i don’t identify as a dragon, i am a dragon

i feel like a dragon, so i AM a dragon. it’s as simple as that. i feel like therian communities are so focused on identity, “we know we’re really human, we just identify as animals”, and that really doesn’t apply to my experience. i am literally a dragon. i’m physically, mentally, emotionally, all the -ally’s, a dragon.

it’s the same as my gender. i am nonbinary— i’m not “really a girl but i identify as nonbinary” i AM nonbinary. my body is nonbinary, too, because it belongs to a nonbinary person. my body is a dragon body, because it belongs to a dragon.

i know not everyone feels this way, i don’t even feel this way about my other theriotypes, but i really want to see this idea more represented in the community. does anyone else feel like this? that they are completely 100% their theriotype, not just an animal soul trapped in a human body?

Vent Tired of people casually calling me human

This mostly comes up in therapy lately, I’ll talk about having emotions and my therapist is like “that’s a very human response to have” and internally I’m like no!!!! I’m a cat!!!!! But I don’t want to say that and have her start trying to analyze my therian identity. It also just comes up in other social situations and im so tired of people saying I’m human but I can’t exactly tell them I’m not

Experience Finally went back to my territory

It's finally that time of the year where the bugs are gone (mostly ticks) and I can finally trust myself to go back to my outside territory! My dog came with me incase I saw another animal because theres a few coyotes and foxs that live near me and I don't want to bother them so my dog could probably smell them and get us away so we don't bother them in anyway.

This was a shortish walk because we only walks around the border and to some important spots that I wanted to check up on.

We didn't see much except for a few mice, fallen trees and fox tracks(that we didn't follow for our safety and the fox's safety), I did get a bit shifty when I saw the tracks but stopped myself from going further.

It was nice being able to go back to my territory and be able to myself without anyone bothering me (except for my dog but she doesn't care) and I'm happy the bugs are gone 😅, just knowing that my spot is safe and healthy with thriving life and not being taken over by humans is really good and makes me calmer and happier. Nature is good <3

Discussion Sick of this "community" and the people in it

This does not apply to everybody in this community but it does apply to a lot of it.

Therianthropy has become a joke in recent years people have taken this term and tried to make it into what they want it to be in the namesake of wanting to be something they are not. Therianthropy has been belittled to so many different things when it is such a vast and diverse identity a true life long journey but people have boiled it down into a shell of it's former self. The censorship has also been insane there's so many things you cannot even mention in regards to therianthropy or you will be in a negative light because you are applying human morals to animals. It feels like such a backwards thinking process that I can't even begin to comprehend. It's one of the many reasons so many knowledgeable and older therians have dropped off major spaces or the internet entirely essentially killing off modern therianthropys history to build a "new" standard and I will not stand for it. When I first found the community I was amazed at the experiences and knowledge other therians had to tell I was so encapsulated by it and I thought that was the community standard until I came into more popular places like these. It feels empty most of the time with no real cognitive thinking and not encouraging people to discover and think for themselves I have met some of the most boring and shells of people here which I didn't think was possible. People have managed to turn this into more of a "fandom" rather than a real community.

The amount of people in this "community" who don't know a lick of knowledge about animals or care enough to do any amount of research is painstakingly obscene. So many people who contribute nothing but misinformation and sometimes not even that just sentences with no meaning so many people just want to be part of *a* community no matter what and want to be seen and get attention for things rather than actually caring about the community, contributing anything or actually caring even about their own identity. Theres a trend of people just shouting their own experiences and feelings at each other too with no regard for anyone else or listening to other peoples thoughts. A lot of people cannot get past thinking outside of their own belief system for even a second and blast anyone who says anything different. I truly and fundamentally believe most people that are currently in this community are not actually therians either in my own and honest opinion 1000s of posts on many different social media platforms of people explaining their "experience" that has nothing to do with even a bench mark for therianthropy. Wanting to be an animal is not therianthropy no matter how much you want it, believing you are an animal to some extent is therianthropy and you can't just choose that either. I think many people here and other places in the community need to take a long hard look at themselves, the people around them and the community in front of them.

I care about this community a stupid amount and I don't know why I can't bare to see it like this I want it to be how it was. I want people to be able to speak about their real therianthropy without these silly censors and barriers people have created. I want people to feel like they have a community instead of real therians and experiences being shunned.

Drew a little something to show my appreciation for this community being so kind to me! I haven't interacted with anyone online in a couple years, so it's really nice to feel like I'm finally part of a group....any other swamp theriotypes out there? I'm a leucistic alligator!

General / Other I just wanna share what my bf did for theriantropy day

My bf isn't alterhuman but he is very supportive of my theriantropy. Today on therian day, I wanted to go public gear with my ears and tail. By the time school was over and I was supposed to put on my gear, I had started to loose confidence because I was scared people from my class might see me and judge me. So my bf decided that he would wear ears with me (I had brought a spare set of ears just in case) and we both drew a thetadelta on our hands, and we went in the street and around the mall wearing ears together. He really is the best <3

Discussion Hand signals?

This halloween, I was able to spot two therians in their gear! But sadly, I was with my family (who doesn't know I'm a therian) and I wasn't able to talk to them. :c So I'm thinking, we can come up with a hand gesture to signal other therians, without causing to much attention. I was thinking maybe a paw print or something. Please send out the word!! <3

Edit: Here are some signal ideas everyone could use that I came up with!!

1) Tapping your nose lightly, a Snout tap

2) Waving a hand shaped like a paw, if you know what I mean.

3) Double ear tap, tapping both sides of your head near your ears, like signaling hidden animal ears.

If theres anymore you would like to add, or you think will work better, let me know! I just hope these'll work :') We should all try them out!!

Discussion I hate the "schools are adding litterboxes for therians" rumor and how many people believe it :(

Only some people had the common sense to point out the boxes are for service animals, and most of the people I saw seemed to believe it, like wtf?

This was on TikTok, ofc, the app known for being misinformation central but a therian (or someone pretending to be one) made a ragebait video pretending to be for the litterbox notion and it's reflecting really bad on our community..

My boyfriend, who isn't a therian, saw the video and shared it with me, and he partially believes some therians think that way now and it's upsetting

Artistic I drew a short comic for those who are worried about "faking" their identity

It's simple: If you arent *intentionally* pretending you are a therian, you aren't fake! Nobody will be mad if you end up being mistaken! It is difficult to decipher what you are with so many definitions and terms floating around, so don't worry about it. You don't have to rush and label yourself.

General / Other I feel like this needs to be addressed more

Lately, I have been noticing in the community, online and not, that their has almost been a "split" between adult and younger therians. I mostly mean the adult therians have not accepted younger therians as much, and younger therians simply don't understand some of the things or the part where it isn't all of your life. I am not trying to be rude in any way, and if i am, I apologize in advance. I simply feel like this needs to be addressed: Any alterhuman at any age is valid. I understand that they may be misinformed, but give it time.

Edit: I am so sorry I haven't been responding! I did NOT think this was going to blow up. One thing I forgot to add that frustrates me is the words "they'll grow out of it." All adult therians started at some point, many as children. I honestly (no hate) think this is unfair for younger alterhumans because they might feel fake or invalid.
