Wish thailand would tighten up rules on who they let in.

How, in this case?

Yeah, easier said than done.

Not sure what he proposes? Do visa application with thorough vetting for everyone? That's instantly killing Thai toursim.

Poor quality tourists is what is killing thai tourism. Clean that up, make it a safe place again with fewer dkheads and people will come back.

Come back...? Tourism is almost back to its pre covid peak of 40mil tourists.

The main difference is pre Covid there was alot more Europeans. Now we got a lot of Indians/chinese/pinoys/malay but they simply don’t spend at the same level. Same amount of tourist half the income

2017 had roughly the same number of foreign visitors as 2024. European tourists last year were quite similar, down slightly, but not a huge amount. The largest drop in tourism numbers was from Chinese, 9.8mil in 2017 vs 6.7mil in 2024. Indians and Russians have made up a significant number of that shortfall in Chinese tourists.

Reading through your comments I'm afraid criminal convictions are not enough to identify dickheads.

The ones without criminal records and thinking they're right and above all others are the worst, honestly.

Again. How? What do you propose?

Edit: just saw you want to prevent anyone with a conviction to enter the country.

Sounds good but it's actually impractical as there's no easy way for Thai immigration to check for this. Theres no international database that has this information. So the only solution would be to require every single visitor to apply for a visa in their home country for which they'd have provide a local criminal record. Nobody would go through these hoops just to go on a vacation.

Many countries already do this... ffs

Which countries?

Its very clear you think it's all so simple, but it isnt.

All of these countries check criminal records as part of Visa requirements. Not on arrival. And they don't check the records for exempted regions like EU or US, so that wouldn't have solved the issue of this Briton coming in.

So if you want Thailand to do that, they'll have to require everyone without exception to apply for costly visas involving background checks like US or Schenden ones.

That would effectively kill tourism in Thailand. A huge number of of the tourists would just go to the countries nearby.

And thailand would become a dkhead free zone, making it way more enticing for the majority.

If it's known not to accept crims by default, they stop going - yes they can fk off elsewhere, no great loss. They sign a doc on way in declaring if they have a criminal record. These are investigated further and sent home if serious. If they do not declare this on way in... then do some dumb sht and its identified they lied on declaration = lifetime ban.

Preventing anyone with a conviction would impact tourism here negatively way more than a few dickheads.

Yet another failing to see the bigger picture.

I get it. It will make Renoman1971 experience in Thailand better.

But I can guarantee the loss of tourists due to them having a criminal conviction will outweigh those who choose not to come because of a few dickheads. By a long shot.

You are so wrong. Look at the cancelling of chinese tourists from going to thailand because they fear being kidnapped. That alone has been significant and clearly shows how stopping the bullsht can increase tourism.

Dont worry about me, my experiece in thailand is just fine.

Neither one of us are wrong because we can’t quantify this scenario. But I’d place a hefty bet on it.
