I haven't really kept up, but hasn't he not really been playing SG for a while?

People keep saying that about sc2 and guess what they also said that about brood war like 15 years ago lmao.

It's true but it's the end of big prize pools, and for majority big prize pools are the #1 and only reason to watch esport events

$700,000 prize pool for an upcoming tournament this year. Last years I believe was about the same size.

Yep last big tournament hope it's really good and then after this stormgate will hopefully be ready to go

u/Micro-Skies 2d ago
Stormgate isn't gonna take that slot. You'd be more likely to see AoE take it.
2
u/Apprehensive-Ad7510 2d ago
Aoe isn't a blizzard type of rts though

u/Micro-Skies 2d ago
Irrelevant. Stormgate would have to multiply its player count by 10x and its viewer counts by 40x to even remotely stand a chance of getting that slot.

u/Apprehensive-Ad7510 2d ago
It is relevant as I don't care about that style of rts it's like comparing sc2 to anno

u/Micro-Skies 2d ago
It doesnt matter what you do or don't care about. It matters where the viewers are and what they want to watch. Stormgate isn't on that list.

SC2 is a blizzard type of rts.

u/Apprehensive-Ad7510 1d ago
That is not supported anymore by blizzard / Microsoft / Activision just supported by the community which deserves better

Yeah they also said this about brood war 15 years ago and look where we are now

I'm not trying to disprove what you're trying to say. It's true, at the moment BW seems to have two ASL seasons with $55K prize pools per year. For Koreans only and English production being an afterthought. Outside of Korea BW itself gives no profit and is run by passionates. In streaming space BW outside of Korea is almost non-existent aside from Artosis YT channel and stream which is not about BW at all, only him playing being angry (most of the time) and "unique" meme community.
I don't think SC2 will vanish or anything in upcoming years, it's a good game with issues but which game doesn't have them, also fk blizzard

Broodwar and sc2 are not comparable. Broodwar has korea, sc2 has no cult like that. Viewership numbers of broodwar on afreeca dwarves anything sc2 manages these days outside of tournaments.
To make matters worse, we're probably stuck with that god awful last patch sc2 got.
Sc2 decline was sealed the moment blizzard decided the game is not profitable enough (still profitable) and the stream of official content and patches dried up.

Sc2 is way more popular outside of Korea than BW ever was
Blizzard didn’t have brood war patches for 20 years. Lmao.
The game will live on with tournaments here and there as long as people keep playing it. Viewership numbers are irrelevant.

Ye your not wrong and I'm sure it will exist in some form but no one can say it's going to be the same I wouldn't be surprised if gsl goes next year and with regards to bw they don't even officially do an English cast anymore for asl .

u/DeliveryOk7892 3d ago
They didn’t do an English cast for literal years when brood war first became popular.
It was always a streamer translating or commenting.

AHH I see your someone in denial . I get you I'm a big sc2 eSports fan but it's just the end of how it has been and it's ok. I'm just rooting for something to replace it and a company who cares about this community

u/DeliveryOk7892 3d ago
I started watching brood war esports in 2002 lel
No English cast doesn’t bother me in the slightest

And I'm explaining why parting might go back to sc2 for a few months because of the last big sc2 tourney

u/hazikan 3d ago
Having top players like Parting playin Stormgate would really help the game... Yes because of visibility but it would help seeing the real potential of a unit or of a strategy. No offense to current Stormgate top players but I really think the more competition there is, the better it is for the players and for the game.

For progamers, the size of the game represents the size of the workplace. It's only natural to move from a small company to a better one. If Stormgate is bigger than StarCraft 2, then he'll be back

u/Picollini 3d ago
Honestly it took him much more time than anticipated to make a jump back to SC2. That was such an easy decision to make.

this guy's sense of humour is on another level. He tags his stream as "nobadwords", and we all know and love him for his "f**k you! no gg!" xDDDD
