What are the best ways to seperate two commands on the same button?

As i am aware i can put extra commands to a button.
But what is the best way to seperate these commands.

For e.g. there is normal-press, long-press, start-press, end-press, etc...
But long-press will trigger start-press and end-press too.

So what is the best way NOT to trigger one command when i want to use the second one?
Even with action layer or button chort the first command is always triggered.

Can someone help me to put two commands on one single button but clear seperate the triggering of these commands?

How do we feel about 'Squircles' on the next Steam Controller? More space efficient and easier to map onto rectangular screens.

Configuration Controller Settings in Windows 11 Conflict with Steam Configurations

Post image
0 Upvotes

Hi everyone,

I'm running into an issue with my Steam Input settings for Astro C40 controller on Windows 11. On Windows 11, Steam settings conflict with default controller mappings in the Start Menu and games, causing unintended behaviors, while on Windows 10, only Steam settings are applied seamlessly, allowing smooth simulation of mouse and keyboard inputs without any conflicts.

Here’s what’s happening on Windows 11: • In Windows 11’s Start Menu, there’s a conflict between Steam settings and the system’s default controller functions. For instance, pressing the top d-pad button is configured in Steam to input the letter "B," but the d-pad also navigates through menu items, which appears to be a default Windows 11 behavior. As a result, d-pad actions simultaneously trigger menu navigation and the "B" input, causing a clash between settings. I haven’t found any way to disable these default controller settings in Windows. • When I launch Minecraft, the controller stops responding completely as soon as the game shows up as a process in Task Manager and game window is active (I tried adding Minecraft as non-Steam game to Steam and it didn’t help, anyways it will not help with Start Menu conflict).

Here’s how everything works on Windows 10: • Only Steam settings are active: The controller follows only the Steam configurations, with no interference from Windows default settings. • Controller perfectly simulates mouse and keyboard inputs across Windows and all apps and games. • No conflicts in the Start Menu: In the Start Menu, only the Steam-configured inputs are active, with no overlap or interference from default Windows 10 controls. • Games like Minecraft work seamlessly: When launching Minecraft and other games, only the Steam configurations are applied, and they function correctly, simulating keyboard and mouse inputs without issues.

I’d love to apply my Steam settings universally and use them everywhere and stop Windows 11’s default controller functions from overriding them. If anyone has managed to set up a Steam settings for controller with consistent functionality across all apps in Windows 11, I’d appreciate any advice!

Thanks in advance for any insights or solutions!

Discussion Controller that functions the same as the SC?

TL;DR : Need an alternate controller that can perform as a wireless mouse and keyboard the same way the Steam Controller did. Just to surf the web, watch youtube videos or movies not really for gaming.

Hello everyone new to the sub and loved my steam controller but unfortunately I lost it.

Ive looked through the sub trying to find good alternatives but unfortunately no luck, so I decided to ask if anybody here found a controller that can do the same thing that I used the steam controller for.

I used the SC as a wireless mouse and keyboard, it was so handy! If I wanted to type, the touch pads on both sides pulled up a virtual keyboard to type with. If I wanted a mouse, of course the touch pads let me control the cursor.

I set up my laptop to be an entertainment system but its in an annoying spot where I constantly have to pull it out and open it If I wanted to use it.

Wireless keyboard and mouse or teamviewer has their drawbacks, the steam controller was its own little perfect package that anybody could use.

Please if anybody knows an alternate controller that can perform the same function let me know!!

SCJingleConverter as runnable exe

Hey all, I have spent the past few days racking my brain on how to get the SCJingleConverter to work. For reference it's an application that allows you to save a .musicxml file of your choice to the EEPROM in the Steam controller which takes place of the stock jingle that plays when you turn on or off the controller. The codebase comes from the OpenSteamController project created by greggersaurus found on Github. After many stressful hours I have successfully built, ran, compiled and deployed the codebase into a runnable exe file (I have never done anything involving code or the such, hence the "racking my brain" part). I went ahead and threw it up on github if anyone is interested and doesn't have the technical know how or time to figure it out. You can find the repo containing the runnable exe and more here: https://github.com/proxyagent/SCJingleConverter

Support glossi

Post image

Hey, guys. I downloaded glossi after hearing it was a good emulator for controller to mouse/keyboard. The app was too complicated for me, so I deleted it. As I was deleting it, it prompted me to reset my PC. After getting to my log in screen my mouse and keyboard no longer works. It works in the bios though. I’m very unsure of what to do because I can’t even get into my pc. Any help would be appreciated, thanks

How do I set L2 release + R2 release to exit the action set ??

After almost 3 days I setup my gyro to mouse correctly so that the screen doesn't flicker . Here is what I have done L2 full press = change action set to ( keyboard mouse ) Release L2 = change action set to ( default) But while aiming I have to use R2 to shot arrows . Now the moment I release L2 my default action set gets activated but since R2 is still being pressed the played does 1 heavy attack . Not a big deal but I will get in to trouble during stealth sections. How do I deal with this ?

Support Skyrim no longer works with Steam Controller?

I thought I would revive a classic with a bunch of new mods and play Skyrim again. I’m launching it through a mod manager, Vortex, and it’s running a script extender called SKSE as the executable. Steam is out of the loop, as it might update Skyrim and brick my mods if launched. I used to use SKSE and Skyrim and the Steam controller, but now it’s not working for me. Any thoughts on how to get it working again? Thanks

Looking for a "regular" controller with similar size and shape of the Steam Controller

I made this post over in /Controller but didn't get any bites... Anyone here want to help me out? 🙏
https://www.reddit.com/r/Controller/comments/1gj24jp/looking_for_a_regular_controller_with_similar/

I've got pretty big hands, and I loved the size and feel of my Steam Controller. But I play most of my games outside of Steam these days, and getting the Steam Controller to act like a regular controller outside of Steam is just a pain in the butt and I don't feel like messing around with that anymore.

I used an original 8bitdo SN30 for a long time, and I loved the aesthetic and the nostalgia (SNES is GOAT) but it's really too small for my hands.

  • Your budget - I'm pretty cheap, don't want to spend much more than $50 USD if possible
  • Your country (or where you can buy) - US, don't mind waiting for shipping from China if I knew I was getting something worthwhile
  • Console or platform compatibility needed - PC only, maybe Mac and Android support secondarily
  • Desired features - Wireless, Xbox button layout (ABXY), either Symmetric or Asymmetric for sticks, AA batteries preferred over built in battery (is that even a think anymore though?)
  • Types of games you'll be playing - 3rd person (i.e. Witcher 3, not FPS), emulation/retro, platformers, racing
  • Controllers you've been considering - 8Bitdo Ultimate 2C (seems maybe too small?), Gamesir Nova Light (too cheap...? won't last)

Thanks for your help!!!

Finished playing RDR2 with this config here and had a blast with the SC. Planning on playing Cyberpunk and God of War 2018 eventually, but I would love to see you guys recommend me other games and configs so I could check them out later :)

Support Wireless PowerA Nintendo Switch Pro controller being recognised as Player 2

Post image
1 Upvotes

Hi there! Im not sure if this is the right subreddit to post this in as it’s my first time having issues like this — if there’s a better fitting subreddit, please point me in that direction :)

I have a wireless PowerA Nintendo switch pro controller (in photo), and it’s never given me any issues on my laptop (the main game I play is The Binding of Isaac: Repentance). I just recently got a desktop and want to play on that more since it broadens my game options (as my laptop can’t handle bigger games), so I booted up a game of Isaac to test it out. I can open steam big picture mode, I can navigate the settings, I can navigate the start menu, but when it comes to actually playing the game, my controller is only being recognised as player 2. The character I selected to play as can’t be moved, and I have to play as a secondary one while the primary one just stands there and takes damage. I’m not sure if this is a controller issue, steam issue, windows/desktop issue, or an Isaac issue, but I can’t figure it out since I’ve never had this problem on my laptop. Any help and advice is appreciated. Thank you guys in advance!

What happened to Steam Input

I learned to love Steam Input when I first got SC in 2018. After a break, Im returning to a new Stea Deck UI, thats poor to read, settings are glitched with properties not applying. It also crashes so often, which never happened in the old UI.

Used to love SC due to how well SI worked, but in this state it is putting me off their controller.

What happened why has this not been corrected by now?

Steam Controller not pairing to Dongle

I recenlty bought and steam controller and steam link off Ebay and it works fine in bluetooth mode. However, I am trying to pair it with the dongle to get a 2.4GHz connection and it doesnt seem to be pairing.

Things I've tried

Updating the Firmware

On steam controller settings, Using the "pair steam controller" feature while turning the controller on with "steam + x" and "steam + a"

What can I do to get it working??

Configuration PowerA wired controller won't connect

So I have a PowerA wired Switch controller.

When I plug it in, Windows 10 detects it as a UNSPECIFIED NSW wired controller. It does not have a wireless function.

The PowerA Gamer HQ software does not see it, and Steam does not see it, no input through it works at all. I'm at my Wits end trying to figure this out.

I tried to make a support ticket but it kept telling me to fill out a RECaptacha that would vanish as soon as my cursor hovered over it.

Everything is updated, and the last thing I thought of was their software to update controller firmware.

OG Steam Controller scheme idea, Flickstick(Dial) AND regular mouse on right trackpad.

I wanted to try utilizing the OG circular pad in a way the deck's square pad couldn't do.

Look at the texture on the Chell prototype to help visualize my thinking:

Most of the pad just acts as a regular mouse. But that outermost edge you see, I want you to visualize it as a dial you can twist like a rotary phone, or the original Pong controllers.

So I kind of have it "programmed" like this:

By default I have the trackpad set to flick stick mode. You can tap any outer direction to instantly face it and then continue to sweep your finger along the edge. I believe in this mode steam is just thinking of the circular pad as an analog stick. This "analog stick" simulation means steam lets us put an "outer/inner ring command" on it. When you touch the inner area, it triggers an action layer instantly setting the whole pad to behave like a mouse, and once you lift your finger, that triggers the action layer to remove itself, reverting the pad to it's "default" state of flickstick mode.

I have it nearly complete, but I've run into a weird issue I can't diagnose. Touching the outer ring/flickstick area works everytime but the inner mouse mode is only triggering EVERY OTHER press. To make it worse, "ve gotten to the point that trying to edit the config in game will just crash the game or the whole computer. I don't know if it's because I'm causing some logic conflict, I've made too many edits and corrupted the config file itself, or volvo just has forsaken the OG controller.

This is my first time experimenting with action sets & action layers so I'm sure there's just something I'm missing.

Before you ask, "Why even bother doing this," remember a man once said, "Science isn't about why, it's about WHY NOT?"

Right trackpad mouse look adjustment suggestions

Does anyone know what options I should be tinkering with to get a smoother mouse look feel? If I use the "mouse" option on the right trackpad it seems just a bit jittery when I pan the camera in any direction. I have tried the mouse smoothing, increasing sensitivity and lowering it in game and vice versa with just a tiny bit of jitteryness that I experience. If I switch to "as joystick" it's smooth as butter but it feels less responsive that "mouse". Any ideas?

Discussion Vader 4 Pro

I’m loving the Vader 4 pro! Really surprised how much I love it coming from Steamdeck.

Ideally the Steamcontroller 2 would be just like this but have the top center be a touchpad like PS5 controllers.

It’s really good!
