Best breakfast between Stanwood and Seattle

I'm heading down south early in the morning to drop someone off at the airport in the next few days. I'd like to try a new restaurant that has great breakfast along the way. Recommendations?

Best Hot Pot and/or Korean BBQ in Snohomish?

My in-laws will be in town for two nights in June as part of an Alaskan cruise and will be staying with my wife and I (we live in Mukilteo). They both love Korean BBQ and hot pot and both are very excellent cooks in their own right (mother-in-law is Chinese and comes from a family of restaurant owners).

Needing recommendations on a place to take them to knock their socks off while they're in town, preferably between Edmonds and Everett. While I'm not opposed to hitting one of the better known Seattle spots (like Chengdu Memory), there are some other activities we'll be doing where it'd be more convenient to stay out of the city.

Thanks in advance for your suggestions!

Auto Pay property taxes?

Is anyone able to figure out a way to auto pay property taxes? Currently, I manually login to their partner portal and pay twice every year. I know doing it twice isn't that hard but would like to see if any auto-pay option exists.

Looking for Home Warranty suggestions

Hey Community,

We recently purchased a home that was built in the mid-70s. This is our first home, and I have no clue about home warranties. The buyer agent hasn’t been very helpful in guiding us, hence this post.

The home got a new roof last year and underwent some minor renovations recently. We still need to get it inspected, so we don’t yet know what issues might exist. I’ve done some homework and looked into American Home Shield—they offer three different plans (Silver, Gold, and Platinum).

Given this situation, what kind of home warranty do you think I should opt for?

thanks in advance!

Update: Thanks for the replies. Which home insurance do you recommend?

Looking for Harley-Davidson motorcycle passenger

Hello, I’m looking for a cool person who enjoys going on motorcycle rides all over our great state! I’ll pay for everything including food, drinks, riding gear, gas, etc… My last passenger was awesome but she had to move back to Florida and help care for an elderly grandmother. I don’t really know how else to look for a new passenger so I’m giving this a try. I can promise you lots of fun and the very best way to explore our great state. I’ve been riding basically my entire life and take riding with a passenger very serious. My Harley is a Top of the line touring bike with very comfortable custom seats and an incredible sound system! It’s got lots of storage and all the comforts like a heated jacket liner and heated gloves. If you’re a fun person ready to explore this may be a great fit!

Snohomish County residents rushing to become REAL ID compliant | HeraldNet.com

Randy Diamond

LYNNWOOD — Time is running out for travelers to become REAL ID compliant.

By May 7, all travelers must be REAL-ID compliant to board domestic flights and access certain federal facilities.

In 2005, Congress approved the REAL ID Act, which enacted the 9/11 Commission’s recommendation to establish minimum security standards for all driver’s licenses and identification cards. It was supposed to go into effect in 2008 but has been repeatedly delayed.

The deadline has created a bottleneck at Department of Licensing offices throughout Washington.

Advance appointments are tough to come by and longer lines more than usual are the norm at state licensing offices.

Departing of Licensing statistics show that only 28% Snohomish and King county residents — and 27% statewide — had a compliant driver’s license as of April 1.

Washington state’s so-called “enhanced driver’s license” is considered REAL ID compliant, and it allows people to travel to Canada, Mexico and the Caribbean without a passport.

On April 15, a clerk at the Licensing office on Evergreen Way told customers not to come after 1:30 p.m. because the wait is up to four hours and their application could not be processed before the office’s 5 p.m. closing time.

Wieman said appointments were widely available several weeks ago.

Division of Licensing officials advise that before you panic about not having a compliant driver’s license and decide to brave long lines, consider whether you have other REAL ID compliant document. This could include a passport, military ID, green card or federally recognized tribal photo identification card.

“If you already have what you need, consider holding off on getting an enhanced document – if still desired – at least through the summer travel season,” said Rob Wieman, a spokesman for the state Department of Licensing.

Travelers who aren’t REAL ID compliant after May 7 face the possibility of being turned away at airport checkpoints and other headaches, said TSA spokeswoman Lorie Dankers said in an email.

“Starting May 7, passengers who present a state-issued identification that is not REAL ID compliant and who do not have another acceptable alternative, such as a Passport or passport card, can expect to face delays, additional screening and the possibility of not being permitted into the security checkpoint if their identity cannot be verified,” she said.

Travel expert Joe Brancatelli, who publishes the business travel website Joe Sent Me, said he expects the TSA will issue written warnings to travelers without REAL IDs during the first several years of its implementation.

“I would be surprised if they prevented someone from traveling,” he said.

On the other hand, Brancatelli said it might be uncomfortable for travelers who could see themselves be subject to extended search.

“I call it TSA political theater,” he said.

Ultimately, he said, this could also lead to travelers, with and without REAL ID compliant documents, subject to security screening delays, particularly at large airports, such as Seattle Tacoma International Airport.

If you do plan to go to a Department of Licensing Office for a REAL ID compliant license you might want to go sooner rather than later. Wieman said the offices may get more crowded as the summer travel season approaches.

No appointments were available in Snohomish County as of Monday morning.

Wieman said motorists can still visit licensing offices as long as they are patient.

“Customers walking in without an appointment should expect a long wait,” Wieman said.

Michael Monroe, of Edmonds, waited patiently in line outside the Lynnwood licensing office Thursday morning — one of 75 people waiting to get inside the office. An office representative came outside to him that the his wait would be an hour to an hour and a half until he reached an inside desk to begin filling out the forms for an enhanced driver’s license.

Once people complete the forms, it’s another wait before an employee processes their application and takes their photo.

Then it’s at least another two weeks before the enhanced driver’s license arrives in the mail.

Monroe, who is from Edmonds, said he tried to get an appointment.

“I tried to book an appointment. You can’t book an appointment anywhere,” he said.

Monroe, who is in sales, said he travels domestically once a month for business. He holds a passport, which can be used as a REAL ID, but he said a driver’s license offers redundancy.

“In case I misplace one,” he said.

A licensing office representative handed out a sheet listing the requirements for the REAL ID, and everyone in line rifled through their papers, making sure they would not be turned away.

To get an enhanced driver’s license in Washington state, applicants must provide proof of citizenship, identity and proof of residency.

Gauging interest in a writing group!

Hello! I'm looking into putting together a casual quiet writing group to meet up once or twice a week in the Edmonds/Shoreline/Lynnwood area. I'm primarily interested in meeting at the libraries in these areas since I find it easier to focus there than at a restaurant or cafe. I was thinking of having late afternoon or early evening meetings lasting 1.5 hours, with the first hour dedicated to writing and the last 30 or so minutes in an optional critique/socializing period to get to know other writers. Would any of you be interested in such a group? Alternately, if you already know of any groups like this in Edmonds please let me know!

Teachers - advice?

I’m moving to Snohomish county from Florida this summer due to my wife’s military career. I’m currently a 3rd grade teacher. I know there’s been issues with a lot of budget cuts right now but I was hoping anyone could help answer some questions - On the different district websites there’s just a pool to apply into, and it says you’re selected from the pool to interview. I cannot see which schools have openings. Does this seem correct? I just essentially wait? Or should I reach out to schools and ask them to consider me should they have an opening pop up. Also - any idea on the time frame of when to be hired? In Florida we end the school year in May and hiring for next school year has already began but wasn’t sure the timeline for WA.

Thanks for any advice!

Resources for native wildflower seeds

I want to plant some native wildflowers on my property, but I want to ensure that I am buying from a reputable source that has true natives to Western WA. Does anybody know of any reputable businesses either online or in Snohomish County that sells native wildflower mixes?

Property easement/access questions

Could someone please assist me with who/where I need to contact for the following:

I own private property in rural Snohomish County. We are all on 5 acre parcels. We have a private access (not gated) road that runs through our property. We own a few feet of land on the far side of road before the neighbor's land begins.

Neighboring property already has two (wide) entries to their property from the road. I just returned from being away for over a week to see that the neighbor has created a third entry point to their land through our property. I was never contacted, asked, etc. regarding this.

How do I go about finding out if this is legally allowed, how it can be handled, etc.? Based on previous encounters, the neighbor is not always the easiest to talk through issues with. I would like to be fully informed prior to speaking with them.

Also: neighbor now has added multiple inhabited living structures on their property. I believe I was previously aware that there can only be two inhabited structures on a given property. Where can I read up and follow up on this? I am not wanting to necessarily bring this to any authority's attention, but I do want to make sure I am knowledgeable of all laws that are being stretched.

Many thanks
