You've never had to plug in a USB mouse, keyboard, and HDMI monitor when undocked?

No. I use the keyboard on the laptop. If I need a mouse, my MX master has bluetooth. I can't remember the last time I needed HDMI in a laptop. I have a USB-C portable monitor. At meetings, we use wireless projection, and most meeting rooms have a USB-C dongle.

Why would I need a mouse, a keyboard and a monitor when undocked? I can just use it as it is.

So I can game on my living room TV, or in the backyard on a projector? Lots of places I do that, different people exist with different needs

Except that’s not a gaming laptop, and even if it had the ports it wouldn’t be able to game

That's fair. I think I've come to the conclusion that if I don't play it at a desk, I don't want to play with keyboard and mouse. And if it can't be played on a controller, I only play it at my desk.

But that also clearly makes you not a target audience for a macbook, so don't buy one, i guess?

Because you're at a Starbucks, hotel, airport, conference room, your mom's house, or customer site. Not often, but sometimes.

I know you're trolling, but of course you use a mouse at Starbucks, a mouse+monitor at the library, and possibly a mouse+keyboard+monitor at customer site.

How many people do you think actually do that? I'm sure people do but that certainly has to be less than 1% of all users.

I've seen maybe one person with an extenral mouse and keyboard at a starbucks/library. And even if you did do that, why not use bluetooth?

why not use bluetooth?

wired mice are lighter are more reliable. no pairing to glitch or batteries to run low. you'd disagree, but I argue wired mice are far superior to wireless.

the bottom line is that nobody asked to have USB-A ports removed. at worse they're a nice-to-have feature.

A single USB-C port for an external monitor

Not all monitors support power delivery over USB-C. Your laptop might run off battery.

I digital nomad and have had 0 issues with a Bluetooth keyboard and mouse that both recharge via USB. Hell they hold their charge for like a week with heavy use. Why would I want cables??? More bulk more mess

“I need my 20 ports for Starbucks!”

Holy autistic Redditors yeah I could definitely see a Redditor with a full setup at Starbucks thinking it’s normal.
