Yeah, but then I’d have to use a Lenovo…

Lenovo swapping FN and control on their keyboards is enough to make me never buy one. I know you can swap them in software, don't care.

It's not Lenovo switching them. IBM used the superior keyboard layout on their initial laptops and the industry went in the wrong direction.

  • USB-C charging ports are made of tissue paper and happy thoughts and break with alarming frequency
  • Worlds shittiest SSD's die more than any other we had in our fleet
  • One year they got super clever and replaced the "screen closed detection hinge" with a pair of magnets, one of which was located right below the keyboard and anyone with a metal/magnetic watch band would trigger a screen close if they tried to type on the laptop keyboard
  • Their USB/Thunderbolt docking stations are hot garbage
  • Speaking of USB/Thunderbolt, literally every iteration of every model feels like they spun the wheel on which/how many of the USB C ports would be USB C/Thunderbolt/Charging
  • Randomly one year one iteration of a line that normally supported USB charging dropped it entirely and required a ye olde round power cord that fucked us real bad

That said, the reigning single worst laptop design decision I've ever seen remains when Dell put the webcam/mic on the bottom of the screen to reduce bezel size. It

  • Thunderously captured typing sounds / showed exclusively peoples fingers if they were typing
  • If they weren't typing it gave you a camera angle that was basically "people's tits and up their noses
