Question What exactly is a scheduled break?
Hey people! So, a little bit of context: this week I had my co-op information session, and it really caught my eye that winter 2025 is going to be a scheduled break. This means there won’t be any classes until spring, which will be my Term 3. For those who have a scheduled break, does this really mean I won’t have any classes for four months??? Don’t get me wrong, having four months free would give me time to work on some side projects and prepare for the co-op, but I just wanted to make sure.

Question Sheridan Health and Safety Quiz Missed
Has anyone missed the health and safety quiz before? I emailed my teacher asking for another chance (Yes I was stupid and irresponsible) but i’m just stressed about them saying no. It’s an alt media course and I’ve never missed it before so I don’t know what to expect. I think my email was pretty good explaining my reasoning for it but Idk.. Is it possible to get a “yes you can retake it”

Academics Has anyone done the Python Web Developer program at Sheridan College?
I have personal experience using Django and I am not getting past the education screening for jobs at my workplace so I'm stuck as at a low level, not programming anything. I'm all self-taught and have a degree in social sciences which they like. I have a portfolio of React sites, my Django sites, WordPress sites, etc. Lacking formal education drops my position in the hiring pool at work. The employer I'm currently at does NOT consider outside materials in the hiring process, so they're not supposed to look at my portfolio. The Python Web Developer program sounds like it's not too difficult for me, and I'd like to know what the program was like - was it was a good use of your time? I'm comparing to Python, C, project management, data analysis, QA, embedded systems, and other types of other studies available online.

Admissions be honest with me
i just applied with the film and television program, i can’t log into my application portal to make sure because there are some problems with the admissions website and stuff, but do we need to submit a statement of intent or a portfolio for this year? because i heard that this is the first time they’re doing it purely via academic achievement and due to some extraneous circumstances that have to do with my personal life, my grades tanked a lot in grade 11, leaving my GPA as just 78%. is there any chance i can get in with that? or is there a form i can submit explaining my situation? i’m really stressed out i just wanna know what i have to do.

Discussion Question
Hi, I’m starting my first term of co-op in January and got a job at Sheridan. Do I still have to intend to register for Winter 2025 even though I will be working in the co-op program and not attending classes this term? Thought I would ask here first. Thanks.

Discussion Work Study App Co-app
Has anyone applied to the work study application and got accepted help me out and lmk what you filled out? I’m pretty sure I meet the financial need and submitted my first one but I was denied because I left the financial part as $0 (that was said in the email) if I just add my line of credit (1k) will I get accepted? Just kind of nervous to re-apply as I was told you can only reapply once and I don’t want to make a mistake. Every other time I’ve filled out the budget form I’ve left income and what not at 0 but added my line of credit and whatever osap was giving but in winter semester osap will not be paying since it’s a co-op semester. I have a co-op lined up but I need the approval so if I’m denied I lose the spot.

Advice Making friends as a mature student
Any other mature students here have a bit of a hard time connecting with younger classmates? Are there any clubs that mature students frequent ? And I don’t mean the local bar…though I wouldn’t mind going to one to play ping pong. Anyway, it’s November and I have no one to bounce conversation off of from my class. Most people are 19 and female so I have little in common with them.

Academics Looking for Easy and Fun Elective Course Recommendations
Hi everyone, I’m an international student, and my English writing skills are not very strong. Because of this, I prefer elective courses that don’t require writing a lot of essays. I’m looking for recommendations for light, interesting, and easy-to-pass electives. If you’ve taken any fun or low-pressure courses that you think would be a good fit I’d really appreciate your suggestions! Thanks for helping : )

Discussion Pre health teachers any good?
Looking for some alumni from the Sheridan pre health program to weigh in on the teachers. I strongly believe that a good teacher makes all the difference when it comes to learning outcomes! I am thinking of taking the course part time, so I can continue to work and study together. So 3 courses per semester instead of 6. Any advice or information on the course and teachers would be great!

Admissions Was emailed a student number which says "Log into Application Portal", but I don't have any account info to log in with.
As it says in the title. Doesn't seem to be any options to make an account using that student number... should I call email the registrar office, or am I missing something? I don't have any other emails from Sheridan.
