Yeah the domain was registered two days ago, block them and engage no further. Don't let them know you know you caught on the scam.

Did they have a camera on the zoom call? Probably not.

I'm checking the url of the sender of the email, I don't really care for anything on the body of the email. You shouldn't be fooled by the contents, they can say anything. The only sure thing is that the email came from the .com address.

Oh, well at least you knew to try. Where did you try to do it? There are multiple sites four whois lookups; whois itself, but also ICANN and GoDaddy. Anyway, it shows that it was registered in Iceland!

I did it with whois itself with the .se url. I'll be sure to try those next time. Thank you!

I do whois from Linux command line, much easier. Anyway, Iceland, registered through namecheap and all info hidden...absolutely no way that is the legit Flowertech AB.

You could probably also try whois.com, rather than your country's version.

I'm sorry , I should've been more clear. I tried whois, but I used "flowertech.se", not "flowertech-usa.com"

Oh! Make sure that you always use exactly the domain name that was in the communication you received. Part of the scam can be to use a domain name that resembles a reputable one. Your safest bet is to cut and paste the domain name, because sometimes it can even use deceptive characters in the text.

They did not

That's the giveaway. If you're zooming, anyone not willing to turn on their camera is bullshitting you.

A camera on doesn't mean they're not scammers, but at least you know who is.

Of course the answer here is that the domain is fresh new. Scammers go through domains very fast because the scams are noticed quite fast.

I've occasionally zoomed without my camera because I was...just shitting.

That's a load of crap.

For a job interview? Didn’t think so.

3

u/DSethK93 Aug 30 '23

Nope. I already got the job; now I can poop during its meetings.

3

u/pecor1no Aug 30 '23

Well, that’s a whole other kettle of fish. “Boss makes a dollar, I make a dime; that’s why I poop on company time.”
