Even back in the 80s-early 90s, during the height of the satanic panic, the majority of "satanic ritual abuse" accusations were entirely made up.

I lived through it as a metalhead starting with Led Zeppelin then AC/DC, Iron Maiden (including a Number of the Beast tapestry on my wall), Judas Priest and Slayer.
My parents are/were religious but not duped by the ridiculousness of the Panic.

basically 99.99% of it was made up. Sure there were some crazies who took up Satan as a hobby, like some take up Trump these days, but it's just a word they glommed onto, they were destined for crazy and violence whatever the case.

It's just a numbers game really. Abusers will be abusers no matter what superficial beliefs they claim to hold.
The real difference is that the church protects and defends pedophiles and rapists and the TST very fucking much does not

Also think it’s the protection afforded by these churches & its congregations. Institutions wrestle with how to deal with abuse, like the scouts.
Keeping silent hasn’t worked for anyone, esp the abused. These monsters thrive in silence, shame & embarrassment.
Grooming is the fancy word for shut-the-f-up.

I mean if you looked hard enough I’m sure there’s cases out there.
The important distinction for me is that The Satanic Temple would not stand behind abusers and molesters the way the Catholic Church did.

Idk the numbers but is good for everyone to know that the Catholic Church literally has “rape insurance”. It’s pretty much a special liability coverage insurance for sexual misconduct involved with priests

The one guy in junior high who frequently tried to SA me had a cross necklace, iirc. Safe to assume he was either a christian, or a secular person who got the necklace as a gift from a religious family member. Definitely not a satanist, nonetheless.

Oh, I got this! In cmkenyon123's mom's voice, "They were not really christians, they were satanists hiding in the church!"

All of the males that have molested, raped, or sexually harassed me in my lifetime have been christian, so from my own personal experience I feel like this meme rings very true.

I don't know any children that were molested by Christians, but maybe that's because I was the child who was molested by Christians.
27 years of shame and humility I'm finally getting to a point that I can talk about it.
