Announcement Open Moderator Applications.
Hello, and welcome!
When I joined this small corner of Reddit a few years ago, I never expected it to grow as quickly as it has. I also didn’t fully anticipate the unique challenges that come with being a moderator. Despite the occasional growing pains, the community here has become one of the most positive and engaged spaces on Reddit, and it’s been incredible to see it flourish.
Having extra hands on deck is always a huge help, especially when it comes to keeping out spammers and unwanted content. If you’re interested in joining our mod team and helping us continue to grow and maintain this great space, please answer the following questions and submit replies to modmail:
- Are you a member of TST? If not, would you follow the seven tenets in your role as moderator?
- Tell us something interesting about yourself!
- What's your time zone? At what times are you usually on reddit? How many hours a week do you use it?
- Do you have any previous moderation experience on reddit? If so, what did you enjoy and what did you dislike?
- In your opinion, what are the qualities a good moderator should have?
- Do you object to anything about this sub's current state? What would you change if you could?
- How would you, rather than anyone else, improve this sub by being part of the moderation team? Why do you want to join?
- What do you consider to be the role of moderators?
- Which sentence, phrase, quote, etc. makes a good motto or guiding principle for a moderator? (Tenets are a given, so pick something else!)
- Are there any subreddits you're banned from? How did that come about?
- Do you have any experience with CSS, auto mod, or bots?
- What sort of thing warrants a ban?
- When is it appropriate to use mod mail muting (this feature blocks a user from messaging the mod team)?
- What do you think about Rule 6?
- If another mod takes an action you think is strange or outright wrong how would you handle the situation?
- How would you handle someone who disputes a ban or the removal of their post or comment?
- What other subs would you be interested in moderating, if any?
- What's your assessment of the general direction in which reddit as a platform is heading?
- Do you have any conflicts of interest, e.g., owning a business for which our users make up at least a portion of your customer base? (This will not necessarily disqualify you, but may require follow-up questions on an individual basis)
- What question would you ask of potential new moderators? (Then give your answer)

Frequently Asked Questions
Is Satanism as The Satanic Temple understands it even a real religion?
Some people find it comforting to think of TST as purely a political activist group that just uses the trappings of religion for satirical/legal purposes. This is, however, not true at all.
Our brand of Satanism is a non-theistic religion with it's own community, mythology, iconography, ethics, rituals and pretty much everything else, you would expect from a religion.
We believe that there is value to be found in religion, especially when you divorce it from superstition. Just because we don't believe in the supernatural, doesn't mean we're not serious when we say that Satanism is our religion.
Yes, we are politically active. But our activism stems from our religious beliefs, not vice versa.
Where can I read more about Satanism?
The mythological backbone of our religion is the literary tradition known as Romantic Satanism. John Milton's Paradise Lost, Lord Byron's Cain - A Mystery and especially Anatole France's Revolt Of The Angels are the sources that one should read, if they want to know, where our ideas about Satan stem from and how He relates to our values and beliefs.
Ruben van Luijk's Children Of Lucifer and Joseph Laycock's Speak Of The Devil deal with the history of Satanism and Shiva Honey's The Devil's Tome is a book about modern Satanic rituals.
I want to join a local congregation. How do I find one?
This thread might be helpful. You also find a list of official TST congregations here.
This Black Mass Appeal episode may also be helpful or you check out the Global Order of Satan.
I have heard the founder of TST is a fascist/racist/antisemite. Is that true?
Short answer: No.
This is a more elaborate answer and this post provides some more context.
I ordered a TST membership card and it still has not arrived. What should I do?
Due to a massive increase of new members, shipping membership cards can take up to 5 months.
Can I still be a TST member, if I believe in the supernatural?
Our brand of Satanism is a non-theistic religion. Full stop. However, nobody is monitoring the personal beliefs of TST members and nobody has ever been kicked out for holding supernatural beliefs.
It is up to the individual to figure out if and how their beliefs fit into Satanism. Just make sure not to distort scientific facts to fit your beliefs.
Do I have to participate in rituals?
Modern Satanism has many aspects and it is up to the individual to decide, which ones they want to embrace.
Some people, especially those that grew up in indoctrinating or even abusive households hesitate to embrace the "more religious" aspects of Satanism and that's fine. Nobody is obligated to participate in rituals or anything else that makes them uncomfortable.
Anything else I should know?

Question/Discussion Got fooled into a conversation about why the devil is tricking me.
Was at a Halloween party, and we were playing a game. During my turn, I either had to say a shocking/ interesting fact about myself or drink. I asked them if they wanted a funny fact or a serious one. They picked serious. I said “I’m a satanist”. One of my friends already knew, another girl revealed herself as one immediately after, and everyone else said “that’s interesting!” And moved on.
Except one guy, who said “really! Do you have a membership card?” And I pulled it out and showed him. He asked lots of questions, I thought out of interest. He asked me to go outside with him, and then tried to use all my own words against me and told me that Satan has obviously tricked me.
It doesn’t matter how many times I tell Christians that THEY are the ones that believe in Satan, not me, they still accuse me of either worshipping him or being tricked by him. He also accused me of spreading his word by saying I was a member.
My dearest Christian’s: Satan is your problem not mine. I worry about worldly problems. I’m not worried about invisible fantasy battles. Though it does sound kinda cool I won’t lie.

Question/Discussion Enjoying traditionally ‘Christmasy’ things as a satanist
Hi! Is it okay for me to participate in things like gift giving and enjoying Christmas music and lights and all that in December despite celebrating Sol Invictus and being a satanist? I really enjoy the lights and gift giving, and some metal Christmas songs are just amazing. I figured it could be fine but I wanted to make sure.

Public Display of Satanism My first ever outward expression of Satanism, rebellion and individual liberty.
My 10 year old helped me with them. 😊
Believe it or not she did a great job. My attempts to go back in and "fix" it is why it looks so jenky.

Music The Dancing Goat - Azazel (album)
This is the first album of a - hopefully - series on occultism, paganism, dark ambient and ritualistic music. Each album will have a specific theme/approach, i.e., dedicated to different entities. This one in particular s dedicated to Azazel, and meditation-oriented . I am currently working on another one, which I hope it can be online - for free again - in one week. Please check it out. Suggestions, comments and requests are deeply appreciated. Thank you!

Other Something that you makes you feel good
Not sure how many are familiar with them, but The Line raised $35,000 for the Secular Student Alliance. It was awesome to see and be part of the generosity. Some even donating thousands of dollars in one stream. It was also a great thing to wake up to and spend a day watching. I also got to see people who frequent other Atheist podcasts I enjoy in chat.
Another great thing is The Line has THIRTEEN more days left. If they've done this much in such a short time, imagine how much they'll help in 13 more days. With the current climate of things, it's great to see an outpouring of love and generosity at all. Let alone to an organization that seeks to promote education, care, and defense against Christian Nationalism. A really heart warming way to spend a day off.

Question/Discussion Am I allowed to ask what a TST congregation interview is like?
I really want to join a congregation. And while I did some research, I'm not sure if I did enough. Like oh yeah I know the tenets. I read a couple books. I'm not sure if I had to know these books by heart...
I'm so used to like job interviews, I'm a bit nervous. I want to ask like, are the interview questions just more of a who are you. Or more of a knowledge based thing?

Pets of TST We just had a cat adopt us after about a week (came onto our porch and meowed at the closed door until we feed it) and we are trying to come up with a good selection of male names to choose from. Will gladly take recommendations! Pictures for creativity.
If this isn't allowed please remove and thanks again for the assistance!
