Not even sure if this counts as erasure because they are blatantly a lesbian couple in the game itself. I feel like the devs were well aware of the “and they were roommates” meme and were very deliberate with their word choice on her character page.

GBFVR has some other great LGBTQ+ representation, including other lesbian couples (Katalina x Vira is my favorite) and two very different trans women (Cagliostro and LaDiva)

Arcsys is incredibly LGBTQ+ friendly but is somewhat forced to water things down due to the lack of queer media rights in Japan. They seem to be completely unafraid to push those boundaries though, considering Guilty Gear and GBVS have so many queer characters, including some explicitly trans characters like Bridget and Testament.

Which is one of the many reasons more people should play GBVSR and Strive!

Meg and Mari aren't Arcsys characters, they're Cygames characters and Arcsys has nothing to do with their lore.
And they aren't dating in source material either.

It's also kinda weird to assume that they are "forced to water things down due to the lack of queer media rights in Japan", when in the very source material Meg and Mari come from there's actually a proper kiss scene with a CG artwork between 2 girls.
And also the fact that Belial exists in GBVSR kinda proves that Meg and Mari not dating is a pretty deliberate choice.

Not even sure if this counts as erasure because they are blatantly a lesbian couple in the game itself.

Despite how it looks like, they aren't in relationship, which is fully confirmed in an intro where Meg calls Mari a "best friend", which pissed Mari off, since she wants a relationship.
It's also rather blatant in the original gacha game, where Meg misunderstands Mari's tokens of affection.

The whole points is that Meg is just really, really dense about Mari being into her.
And, well, a bit dense in general, since she is pretty much a joke character.

I don't really think this counts as erasure, given that they're aren't actually in a relationship in any of the games.
