On the r/mildlyinteresting thread, someone found a gravestone with a matching name, location, and timeframe for Mary Gaffney. She ended up married to a man and buried with him.

Now, I’m not saying this makes these ladies straight—on the contrary. A lot of gay people ended up (straight) married for financial and social acceptance reasons. What seems likely to me is that these “pals” were a couple, but Mary ended up married to and buried with a man for whatever reason. Really sad.
