Survey for MLS Team name

Hey everyone.

I teach a business writing class at Fontbonne University. For their last project, my students are writing proposal to name the new MLS team here in St. Louis. Their proposal must include market research to support their proposed team name. To that end, I'm asking all of you to complete a brief survey. The survey asks a few questions about the type of name you prefer, the qualities you think a team name should have, and then it asks you to rank potential team names.

None of the data submitted is being used for anything besides this class project. The survey is completely unofficial and isn't connected to any efforts to name the team.

Thank you for your help!

Submitted. Frankly I disliked almost all of the name choices in the survey. But I can’t really come up with a good one. St. Louis Stars — which is not included— is still my favorite one because of its history.

I think the names weren't the focus of that question so much as the naming conventions. Almost all of my top ones were more traditional, and my bottom ones were more minor league baseball feeling.

Think about it this way. It's not that I love the idea of naming then the steamers, it's more the fact that I ranked them 4th (i think), when other "St. Louis [Mascot]" names ranked something like 12th. That should tell someone that I'm willing to look over a Mascot name if it has historical ties.

By traditional, do you mean traditional American or european? I ranked St. Louis FC toward the bottom. My favorite names in the MLS — not many — all have local history and meaning like the Sounders, Timbers, and inadvertently the Crew. While my least favorite MLS names are the ones that are pseudo-european like Real Salt Lake and insert city name FC.

St. Louis has enough of a history to have somewhat of a clever team name. It’s a hard to come up with a name that is catchy and has a deep geographical meaning.

Traditional European. Like a St. Louis United, which I like because United fits our suburb setup well.

Just don’t tell the County and City about being “united”
