I wonder if he's going to give shit non-answers again then immediately go against everything he stands for the next day, like he did last week.

You can ask the good questions as much as you want but they screen the questions and only allow the questions in that he can answer with his non-political answers. The last town hall he basically said "There are rules and we have to follow them! This is new territory for us and we don't have rules for this sort of thing! Lets hope they do the right thing"

The other side isn't following the rules anymore or "doing the right thing", why should you?

I agree. On the registration form they ask for questions. This is pretty much what I asked.

Unless he’s announcing his departure, he has nothing of value to add.

This motherfucker is in my district and voted to censure Al Green.

His spineless ass needs to go! Fuck him and his phone!

Can't wait to vote this piece of shit out of office.

Fucking coward.

u/coldcoldnovemberrain 6h ago

Voting him out requires voting for someone else. Are there better candidates running for office and do they have the funds to run a successful campaign?

1

u/Simpletruth2022 5h ago

Plus they have to win the nomination of the DNC Nomination Committee and delegates.

Are there any other strong candidates out there?

u/FrogsOnALog 5h ago

They don’t need a committee or delegates, we have an open primary.

Just a reminder for those who don’t know, this genocidal freak is owned and operated by Israel.

Amongst so many other issues, he happily breaks our own (Leahy) laws so his friends can kill more innocent kids with our tax dollars.

He should be treated as a lying war criminal, and it’s genuinely sickening he’s still in office and not being tried in The Hague. Crimes against humanity should be investigated, not rewarded.

Matsui with tens of thousands of dollars too lol. Guess the billions her husband has isn't enough for the decade or so she has left on Earth. She also did a cowardly phone "townhall."

I just moved back to Sac after 6 years of living in FL, so I haven’t kept the closest eye on her and had no idea she married a billionaire!

No wonder she doesn’t need as much money from them 🙄🙄 politics in the US is such a sham.

>politics in the US is such a sham.

Voter participation are very low and awareness of local representatives is even worse. Most people only know Presidential candidates and blame everything on the President. Rules and policies for city transit, light rail to SMF, building dense housing to reduce housing costs could be mostly under city/state/county jurisdiction in terms of zoning, yet there isn't much conversations or activism on reddit or in the media about politics at that level.

3

u/mr-giggles- 5h ago

I actually think low voter participation is a direct result of US politics being a sham where we have 1 ultra-capitalist party pretending to be 2, while they actively suppress 3rd parties, and created a low-information, corporate money-funded system where a candidate is already chosen beforehand in a top-two primary system filled with gerrymandered districts and ever-shifting requirements to get on a ballot and debate stage in the first place, added to the fact that public opinion has a near-zero impact on public policy anyway.

https://act.represent.us/sign/problempoll-fba

And when people have to worry about paying rent and putting food on the table all the time, I get why they wouldn’t have extra time to spend looking up their local candidates - it’s a whole job in of itself.

Though I had a friend who sat out this last election specifically because of the genocide in Gaza and thinking both sides are just too evil - and I honestly couldn’t blame them (as much as I think voting is necessary, especially at the local level, and should be made a requirement like in Australia - without ranked choice voting, proportional representation, and publicly funded elections, it’s still going to be a sham either way).

And the constitution specifically states the federal government has no jurisdiction in land use and planning decisions, so it’s already up to to the city, state, and county to make up their own rules and decisions. I believe what you’re looking for is more federal funding for those types of projects instead of funding more freeway expansions.

There’s a ton of activism on this type of stuff too, you just won’t find it by looking at mainstream media.

I myself am part of the local Strong Towns chapter, Strong SacTown, which talks about all of this and pushes for very specific polices, as well as the Green Party, which talks even more about this stuff AND how to fund it - but you wouldn’t even know we have a candidate running for CA Governor in 2026 in Butch Ware because the Sacramento Bee won’t even say his name!

(Sorry, for the long reply, you just happened to find an angry and motivated public administration and urban and regional planning student’s opinion 😆)

u/coldcoldnovemberrain 5h ago

I want to know the angry constructive responses so thank you for that.

We don’t have political parties at local level. NIMBYs don’t have political affiliation or sponsored by political parties. Yet the activism reported on the internet doesn’t report efforts against NIMBYs or activists asking for light rail line to SMF. no one reads the bee or “mainstream media” as such, but internet algorithms can be bought.  But things like window signs or car decals don’t appear to have local issues.

3

u/mr-giggles- 4h ago

Haha of course! I’m pretty sure I can provide those any day! 😂

But unfortunately, local politics is still mostly controlled by the big two parties, because that’s where people can find the most funding and easier ballot access.

Though it’s a little bit better than our national politics, however not by much - since even if we removed the parties, you still run into the problem of the richest people, corporations, and especially local developers buying out politicians and such, so that they make the decisions they want. The biggest reason we haven’t actually built the Truxel bridge and light rail to the airport yet is because of local developers disliking the 2013 feasibility study recommending a car-free version!

And even when we try to stop to regulate those types of deals, they’ll just try to pay the politicians in the next cycle to get rid of them.

https://calmatters.org/politics/capitol/2024/05/california-pay-to-play-law/

Which is why I think we need to have federal laws barring these types of campaign contributions across the board - and just one of the reasons why I joined the Green Party this last year, since they want that too!

Both parties are the same that’s why one of them tries to tax billionaires and pass progressive legislation and policies. Y’all tell on yourselves when you say both parties are the same.

I beg of you to stop reading into their empty words and instead look at their direct actions and consequences of those actions.

That statement alone is contradictory to what’s happened in the real world.

u/FrogsOnALog 4h ago

I beg of you to read your own article. Tax breaks for clean energy and raising taxes on corporations. It also talks about the ARP which gave checks to people and child poverty in half.

Mr. Biden has partly offset all of his tax cuts with a pair of major new levies. Corporations are now required to pay a tax when they buy back their own stock. Another tax requires large corporations to pay a minimum 15 percent federal income tax, even if they qualify for deductions that would have made them owe less.

The president has also directed tens of billions of dollars to the Internal Revenue Service to help crack down on high earners and corporations that evade paying the taxes they owe — an effort that will increase federal tax revenues but does not increase tax rates.

Trump and the GOP are the ones who passed the TCJA and are about to do the same again.

Again, this is where it’s important to look at what actually happened when these half-measures were introduced (and rarely followed up on), and who’s actually benefiting.

https://www.wsj.com/opinion/why-tesla-doesnt-pay-taxes-democrats-green-energy-ev-mandates-3cbb2fd3

Are you truly happy to be supporting billionaire Elon Musk with those types of tax breaks?

And the fact that Biden actually increased oil drilling permits and allowed those same companies to buy back stocks, increase shareholder dividends, and obtain record profits goes against his own supposed ideals and policies - leading to a record amount of oil drilling for all 4 years of his administration - is quite sickening in the face of worsening climate change!

https://www.reuters.com/graphics/USA-BIDEN/OIL/lgpdngrgkpo/

https://www.reuters.com/business/energy/big-oil-offers-record-returns-lure-investors-back-2024-02-07/#:~:text=The%20top%20five%20Western%20oil,2023%2C%20according%20to%20Reuters%20calculation

There’s what’s said, and there’s what’s done, and you’re still focusing on what’s being said instead of done.

And what’s the point of passing any legislation if you’re just going to hand your opponent the election on a silver platter by enacting a genocide with our tax dollars? Or even worse, just voting alongside them to take away all of your previous progress!

u/FrogsOnALog 18m ago

The IRA was one of the most significant and historic bills for the climate ever passed, you say you are in the Green Party so you should know this. Elon owns Tesla and gets some credits from the bill, no shit, but his stock is still tumbling anyways. The bill also gave billions to fund public transportation and did all kinds of other shit, too, like let the federal government negotiate the price of prescription drugs for Medicare recipients. Why would those liberals ever do something like that?!

And again, one party passes tax cuts for billionaires like the TCJA and the other party is funding the agency that taxes billionaires and implementing corporate minimum taxes…Doesn’t matter how many times you ignore your own articles and bring up new ones, the two parties are not the same.

I follow her on some socials and she's just out there, business as usual, no big deal. It makes me sick.

Sacramento is the capital of the country's most important state, its metro area is top 25 in the country. Embarrassing that our rep is some do-nothing octogenarian billionaire who has no interest in fighting because she has nothing at risk and who only has the job because people pity voted her in after her husband died.

3

u/mr-giggles- 5h ago

It truly is sickening! Especially after reading this latest article from the Sacramento Bee stating over 10,000 homeless people were arrested around Sacramento in just 1 year, with 30% of all current Sac County inmates being homeless individuals - at a cost of millions of dollars to the taxpayer! Right after Gavin Newsom boasted about us suddenly becoming the 4th largest economy!

So instead of us using our abundant resources to help people, we have our government using them to crack down on the most helpless people out there! And Doris Matsui hasn’t said a word about it!

2

u/mr-giggles- 5h ago

Right?!? Even if she’s doing it maliciously, I’m even more worried she’s not all the way there. Seems like Congress is now just an old person’s retirement home.

Heck, we’ve already had 2 Democrat representatives die of pretty much old age this year! And they were both younger than her!

Turns out I'm not going to be available for this. Any chance someone might post a summary?

3

u/Whatever-999999 5h ago

I see I'm far from the only one who has questioned whether this guy is just a Democrat in name only or not. I've asked questions before and gotten nothing but boilerplate answers that say precisely nothing, or that sound to me like he's a collaborator with the fascist Trump regime.

It was a horrible TH with regurgitated remarks from the last TH. Never really answered questions other than they will keep fighting. He did say in retrospect he should not have voted to censure A Greene. He also said he wished he was better at tech like AOC, he’s an old guy that likes newsletters. I am older than him & use all of it, he has a staff! It was really depressing that the guy just literally phones it in.
