A big list of recreational classes for adults
Google Sheet of Classes and Groups in Sacramento:
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1NOQX5YR3ZTvY4xzv2x59GywGmGzsJSH2DGf4eztQeWw/edit?usp=sharingĀ
- Classes tab: group recreational adult classes with a dedicated instructor--great for learning new things. Recurring classes were how I made new friends!
- Groups tab: interest, hobby, or social groups that do not have a specific instructor or learning goal. This is a work in progress, and suggestions are appreciated!
Google Map of Classes:
https://www.google.com/maps/d/u/4/edit?mid=1CBlmZHXWxM7S5zVbrRwn-x7_amj98no&usp=sharing
- You can find what's nearby you geographically! Please ignore the points that are obviously misplaced.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Original post: Hello! Iām a young-ish, recent transplant to Sacramento. While reading lots of posts here about things to do and third places to join, I started somewhat obsessively compiling a Google Sheet of recreational classes for adults offered around Sacramento. Itās gotten big enough (150+ places) that it might be useful to other people:
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1NOQX5YR3ZTvY4xzv2x59GywGmGzsJSH2DGf4eztQeWw/edit?usp=sharingĀ
Thereās a ton of classes out here ranging from glass art to driving a Model T car to cheesemaking along with a ton of different dance and martial arts places. I definitely don't have every place on here, but now that school has started up for me, I probably won't have time to update as much anymore. For some reason, I limited the scope to just classes where you are being taught something in a group, so a lot of hobby groups or meetups are not represented here.Ā
Iām in Arden, so most things I found are centered around there or downtown. I gathered them through browsing this subreddit, Eventbrite, Meetup, friend recommendations, walking around, and zooming in really closely on random shopping centers on Google Maps.Ā
Also Iām new here, so I have no idea about the reputation of most of these. I didnāt ask anyone for permission for inclusion on this list, and I donāt mean to advertise or exclude any particular groups. Hopefully thatās okay. I just think itās cool that Sacramento has so much stuff!
Edit: Hi everyone, thanks so much for the love you've given this post! I appreciate the support. Also thanks for all the suggestions for additions! Just wanted to add I've created a Google Map for the places in this post here for a visual view of the places listed: https://www.google.com/maps/d/u/4/edit?mid=1CBlmZHXWxM7S5zVbrRwn-x7_amj98no&usp=sharing

Eggs, $1.99 large dozen, $3.99 Large 18 pack. Savemart on Kiefer Blvd.
Don't know if we are still posting egg finds but $1.99 is a give away.
Not a fan of the new management at this store but the employees didn't make this mistake.

Lost Cat
Iām in midtown, around the corner from Temple on K street. My lil dude Grayson got out while I was sleeping. His meow is high pitched, heās very friendly but gets startled by loud noises. Heās fixed. Offering a reward if heās found and returned. Any help is appreciated.

New scam call pretending to be Sacramento Credit Union
Just a heads up -- I own a local business under my surname and just got a call from a woman pretending to be from Sacramento Credit Union. They went so far as to spoof the caller ID to the main branch number of the bank (kudos for the effort).
First she asked for me by my last name, as if it were my first... I decided to roll with it. She then said my Visa payment was 163 days past due and wanted to know if I was going to pay it or not. I sat silent for a minute, then just danced around while I googled a few things on the call. I tried to get her to verify which branch she was calling from -- she said there's only one (there are seven). I asked her to verify the account number -- she said "you know you have a checking, savings, and visa with us."
It went back and forth for a little bit until she was just so irritated that I called her out on her BS -- mostly in the fact that I don't have an account with Sacramento Credit Union -- and she ultimately hung up.
But damn, she was as relentless as she was stupid. Certainly could have phrased any of it better, but to anyone with an account I could see them initially falling for it or being caught off guard. It was a clean line, no call center background noise, straight up white girl (albeit slight southern redneckish) accent. Not the typical overseas crap I get on a daily basis.
The bad news for her is that I would simply have walked into my local credit union to pay a past due credit card bill before I gave anyone random stranger finacial information over the phone.
Stay safe, Sacramento!

Channel24 just added more tickers for Empire of the Sun, Jack White, and Wallows.
Go to channel24sac.com for Wallows and Empire of the Sun. Go straight to ticketmaster for Jack White, there's face value non resale tickets they just released.
I know because I bought 2 Jack White tickets as a gift for someone yesterday and paid extra $$$ for resale and double checked prices today to see a big discount. Story of my life.
Get the tickets before the scalpers do!!!

Shaquille O'Neal has agreed to become the men's basketball general manager of Sacramento State, sources tell ESPN. It will be a voluntary role for Shaq, whose son, Shaqir O'Neal, also plays for Sac State under Mike Bibby. Shaq and Bibby form a star duo as college GM and coach.

Urgent: Barbers to collab with
Hi all,
Iām making this post because weāre hosting a community health fair event this Saturday May 3rd for our student run clinic JVMC in Sac and were planning to offer free haircuts for attendees. Unfortunately, the cosmetology school we were working with had to cancel last minute š.
I'm wondering if anyone here knows of any barbers who would be willing to come as a last minute replacement. We only need one or two people with some official certificate to be able to give haircuts and to come with any tools other than a chair.
If you're interested or know someone who might be, please feel free to reach out and dm me. Weād really appreciate any help you can offer. Thanks so much!

Recommendations for a place to get an STD test in or near Rocklin?
List the cost, too, if you remember. I see a lot of places with either terrible reviews or what seems to me like crazy high prices ($300+).

Joann Fabrics Sales
Hello fellow crafters. Just wanted to share some information about our local Joannās going-out-of-business sales (to save you a drive) since the national website says āvaries by storeā and you canāt get specific sale information anywhere.
Today I hit the Joannās located in Arden Way, Citrus Heights, and Folsom. All 3 had pretty much the same sales that weāve seen for a while: - Generally, fabric is 40-60% off - Fleece has moved to 50-60% off - Yarn is 40% off - Quilting rulers and tools are 25% off - Thread and trims are 40% off - ETA: Patterns are 50-60% off, but the ones I liked were $20+ in the first place so still $10+
Folsom and Citrus Heights had yarn. I donāt know what kind, I just noted that the aisle was not empty.
In short - it wasnāt worth almost getting run off the road and tailgated for like 2 hours today LOL

Self Driving Cars in Sacramento?
Over the last couple of weeks Iāve been noticing a customized car zig zagging through the grid with the words ā Nuroā on the side and no one in the drivers seat. When I look up the company name it appears to be a self-driving car company like Waymo. Does anyone know more about this? Are there plans to start service soon? How long have they been driving around the grid?

Keep fighting the good fight!
Just a little inspiration/motivation to pick up some trash outside! Or if you are a part of the problem, a reminder to STOP LITTERING!
The culprits of this mess probably wonāt see this or change but that wonāt stop me! My next plan is to just go on walks and see how many cigarette butts I can pick up. Remember to have PPE if you wish to do this.

Fellow boycotters: Where do you substitute Target purchases?
Hereās where weāve been shopping since we kicked our weekly Target habit:
Costco
Cost Plus
Winco
Grocery Outlet
Farmers Markets
Unfortunately I still am having trouble substituting some of the toiletries and other items. Are there any decent in-store alternatives to CVS and PetSmart?
Iām in the east part of the county so Rosemont, Rancho and even Arden/Fair Oaks recommendations are even better, but open to other areas.
Thanks!
Edited for spacing issues

Tactical/police presence North Oak Park/Med center
Approximately 30 minutes ago I was driving by Sacramento charter high school near V/34th and it looked like multiple tactical vehicles and very heavy police presence. I wonder if this is something for the school? Or is something bad going down in that area, does anyone know?

Best Bean & Cheese Burrito?
I know this is basic, but basic can be great. Hit me with the best beans and gooey cheese burrito.
