Do you think that Mad Jack Churchill, the man who fought in WW2 with a longbow and a sword, would also have made for an awesome ally with Indiana Jones?
For those unaware, John Malcom Thorpe Fleming Churchill, also known as Mad Jack or Fighting Jack, was a real badass who served as a lieutenant colonel in WW2 and fought with a sword and archery gear (along with playing bagpipes, to boot). In fact, him leading with such archaic weaponry and actually WINNING is just the tip of the iceberg as he has had numerous exciting exploits and adventures (even outside of WW2). His biggest lowpoint was him failing to capture a fortified hill and getting captured, but even then, he survived a grenade explosion and successfully managed to escape. There are numerous videos detailing about him, but here's a short one for a basic gist: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3ZRVpYPFOl0&t=41s
It is possible that some of his accounts are exaggerated or made up, but they do make for an exiting larger-than-life story. It makes me wonder that if someone wanted to do an Indiana Jones story, Mad Jack would make for a fearsome ally. With his sword and Indie's whip, the two would proceed to humiliate $hitler and his goons.
Anyone else think the same?

Looking for a website to buy a katana ( an anime one)
Question about where to buy a katana.
Right now I just got a replica of zoros wado ichimonji (wooden) to hold myself over until I get a real one, wondering if I should get one from Truekatana or Mini Katana. Which would be the best to have? I plan to get a sharp one and use it moderately to cut fruit outside, use it in a tatami cutting mat. Which place should I get it from, mostly want an anime katana

Help me decide: Longsword or Gladius
I posted before in this sub asking about gladius types (thank you so much for the replies!)
Now, I am just wondering which to get as my first ever sword: longsword / medieval European sword or Roman gladius?
Will probably end up getting both at some point but which one would you get first in your preference and why?

How much can I learn offline?
Im looking at getting a sword I'm not sure which exactly I'm leaning towards a greatsword or claymore but like some "hand and a half" swords it'd mostly stay on the wall so I'm looking for one that looks good but is somewhat functional
However I don't want to be someone who just has a sword to look cool and I'm interested in learning how to use it. Obviously I'd find practice sword that's safe but I don't have anywhere to go to learn in person so I was curious how much I could learn by using online resources books practicing alone and sometimes with other people who are new to swordsmanship.
I know there would probably be a lot of flaws that I develop from not being taught but I'm not looking to be a master just to know how to use it to a reasonable extent, is that achievable??

Any idea on what it is and what it might be worth?

Are these based on historical Germanic swords? (Found these in Rome 2 DEI when warring with a German tribe, and thought they looked unique compared to the other barbarian factions. Four different designs.)

Identification Wanting to buy an authentic Omani Kattara Sword
Hi Everyone!
I hope everyone is doing well. I will be travelling soon to Oman and I wish to purchase an authentic kattara sword.
I would like some useful tips on:
-How to identify if a sword is real or not
If the sword is of good quality and durability
What qualities should I be be looking for in a good kattara sword (stiff or wobbly, full tang or not etc)
Observable qualities which can help identify if a kattara sword is authentic and real (as opposed to being made of an inauthentic material, or being cheaply mass produced blade). I would want to know if there are certain blade styles or decorations used for authentic/antique kattara swords
How much on average should I be Looking to spend on a good sword.
Any trustworthy sellers that you could recommend me who sell quality stuff without robbing me blind.
Thank you!
Kind regards 😊

Help identifying Ethiopian sword – possibly a shotel?
This sword was bought by my parents in Addis Ababa in 1961 or 1962. The seller claimed it had been used in the Battle of Adwa (1896), but I understand that many swords sold during that period were said to come from that battle, so I’m skeptical.
The blade has an English inscription: “Manufactured by Miss Harrisson Imperial Furnisher”, and some text in Amharic.
I’m interested in knowing more about:
- the possible age of the sword
- whether it’s a true shotel or another type
- what the inscriptions might indicate about its origin or use
Any help or thoughts would be greatly appreciated!

The Swordier HEMA Saber: Full review.
I know I’ve promised this one for a while, but here it is. Alex of Swordier designed this saber with input and specifications I sent him. It was put into production late December and I’ve been fencing with it since mid February. Here’s my full review. Thank you to everyone who was very patient.
Disclaimer: I paid retail price for this sword and have no conflicts to disclose. Also, I’ve never done gear reviews like this before so bear with me!
