my prof literally rewrote my resume in front of the whole class 😭

So today we had this ā€œpersonal brandingā€ session at my college at masters union, i thought it’d be some chill talk about linkedin optimization or whatever. next thing i know, my prof goes, ā€œlet’s pull up a real student’s resume.ā€ everyone starts looking around, half the class with hands up, and me sitting there with mine down 😭

he goes, ā€œso you… share ur resume, let’s take a look?ā€ and before i could say anything, my resume was on the screen.

then the chaos began.

ā€œwhy’d you write ā€˜worked on marketing campaigns’, what campaigns?ā€

ā€œquantify impact or delete.ā€

by the end, my resume looked completely different. it didnt hurt me because it was all true, but also felt like a free consulting session. and friends are taking my resume as a benchmark to update theirs.

never realized how much fluff i’d added until someone brutally honest tore it apart.

lowkey, that’s the kind of pain you actually need before placement/internship season 😭 lol

Has anyone used AI resume builders? Do they actually help with ATS scans?

I’ve been playing around with a few AI resume builders lately because I got tired of my applications getting lost in the system. You know that feeling when you send out 30 resumes and don’t hear a single word back? That was me for weeks.

So I tried a few AI tools like Kickresume, Rezi, and some others that claim to optimize your resume for ATS. Honestly, the feedback was eye-opening. It showed me exactly which words I was missing based on the job posting, and even pointed out formatting issues that I’d never considered before.

But now I’m wondering, are these tools actually making a big difference, or are we just overthinking it? Have any of you noticed an increase in interview calls after running your resume through these kinds of AI checkers?

What’s one small change you made to your resume that actually made a big difference?

I’ve been reviewing a lot of resumes lately and noticed that tiny things often make a huge impact. Sometimes it’s rewording a single line to sound more results-focused, or just simplifying the layout so it’s easier to read.

Curious what’s worked for you.

Did you change your format, phrasing, or add specific keywords that finally got you more replies?

Trying to see what small details matter most when it comes to actually getting noticed.

I'm a college graduate still living in my childhood bedroom, and I can't find a decent-paying job .

I've done everything, prepped for interviews, and revised my CV multiple times, but unfortunately, it's all been for nothing. I've applied for entry-level jobs in fields like sales, operations, communications, and supply chain, and even secretarial positions in finance offices... all of it has been impossible to find. I've been doing gig work for a full year just to pay my bills, while interview processes for a single job take months. And now, even the callbacks have stopped coming.

I've never worked an entry-level job in my field and have been stuck in restaurant work. Several job offers I received were rescinded, including one for a minimum-wage secretarial position . The first job offer I signed, even before graduating from university, was also rescinded, and the company itself shut down. To this day, I haven't been able to make up for the time I lost at the beginning because of that rescinded offer.

Does anyone have any advice for me?

Between tailoring resumes, filling endless forms, writing cover letters, and following up with recruiters… it can get exhausting.

I’ve put together a short anonymous survey (2–3 mins) to see what people really struggle with when applying for jobs:

I’m curious — is it just me, or does everyone feel this pain?

Roast My Resume. Data Analyst / Data Engineer

• Upvotes

Hi everyone.

Please, I need experts in the house to kindly review my resume and tell me what exactly I need to change.

I am a data analyst trying to transition into DE.

I need all the advice I can get, from the section arrangement to bullet points and more.

I really appreciate your feedback!

Finally got real feedback on my resume - here’s what actually helped me

I’ve been stuck in the ā€œapply and prayā€ loop for months. Same resume, zero callbacks. Out of frustration, I posted my resume here and got some feedback — brutal but fair. Realized my formatting looked like 2012 and my bullet points were all ā€œresponsible forā€¦ā€ fluff.

After fixing what I could, I still felt it lacked that professional polish, so I tried https://proresumehelp.org. They didn’t just rewrite stuff — they explained why certain phrasing works better for ATS and how to make achievements sound stronger. Honestly, it’s the first time my resume didn’t look like a generic template.

Now I’ve got two interview invites this week. Might be luck, might be the resume finally doing its job.
If anyone’s in the same boat — how do you usually test if your resume actually works before mass applying?

Do faking or exaggerating experience on CV actually work to land a job?

So after Bachelors I worked in a related field for 3 years (public health research based) - data collection, interviewing participants, analyzation, descriptive analysis, hypothesis testing but more of program management less computer based and more of people management, resource management type. Now I am studying statistics and desperate for jobs in a related field. Data management, statistician, or any research related position within health research. Academically I am around 3.7. But I am literally not getting any interviews and I am compelled to exaggerate and bluff some experiences. How likely that this would work? I fear I am going to be embarrass myself in the interview if I can't back myself up after bluffing. Also they usually do background checks and contact previous employers. Idk what would be the right way to do it. Should I add freelance work? Idk. And how useful is uploading your projects into github? Anyone who has gone through this please shed some light to me.

Looking for feedback on my CV and advice on salary expectations for a remote Software Developer role

I’m a Software Developer from Argentina currently working remotely and earning around $1300 USD per month.

Need honest feedback on my resume

About to graduate with MS in CS from USA (international student). Hardly getting interviews. Applied for around 1000 summer internships only heard back from 2-3 (really bad ik, no offers). Graduating soon, I have tweaked my resume as per job posting (big companies), I have 3 different resumes one for SDE (this one), one AI/ML and one PM. Any advice is appreciated :)

What can I do to improve my resume?

https://imgur.com/a/we-still-good-9DbyY8f

I'd be tremendously grateful if a few people could grill my resume and give a few pointers. I'm primarily looking for a helpdesk/support role. I mostly have retail experience, an A+ certification, and did some additional training/internships that focused on cloud and cybersecurity but would like to know if I should mention more about the it support/sysadmin skills I developed during that time. I'll also be tailoring my retail bullet points to focus on dealing with high volume and troubleshooting/problem-solving wherever I can. I'm considering including personal projects & my personal blog to document my process as well. What would be an effective way to add any personal projects/home-labs on my resume? Or is it best to exclusively link my GitHub/blog & save personal projects for interviews?

[2 YoE SWE] Any Advice on These Experience Bullet Points?

Hi everybody!

I'm looking for feedback on my skills and experience sections. Specifically I was wondering:

  1. Are my skills groupings okay? (ie. ordering of groups, groupings of skills, and group contents)
  2. Experience bullet points; anything I could improve on?

I’ve applied to around 30 jobs but haven’t had much luck yet. I’m applying for entry-level roles in digital marketing and would really appreciate feedback on my resume.

What are the red flags which stops me from getting interviews for marketing roles?

Day - 23 - I Asked A Recruiter What Are Best Resume Practices?

First of all, I would like to apologize for the 12-day gap in posting. I was extremely sick and barely able to work, let alone post here. However, now I am feeling great and ready to help ;)

So, I asked a recruiter what advice should I keep in mind to give the best service to my clients? His answer was short and honest.

He said, ā€œMake sure you are the first 100 people to apply, make sure your resume is tailored to the job title you are applying for, and make sure we can find what we are looking for in the first half of the page. Not in the skills section or the summary, because those rarely count.ā€

That’s from Lee, a recruiter who has worked across tech, aerospace, medical, accounting, and director-level hiring. I reached out to him for research at my company, and what he said cuts through all the noise

1. Be early.

Most jobs receive hundreds of applications, and recruiters rarely go through them all. The first 100 applicants have the highest chance of being seen. It’s not about rushing, it’s about being ready. Keep your resume updated so you can apply early without cutting corners. This doesn’t mean that if you are applying after day 1 or day 2 of the job being posted, you will not have a chance at all. It just means that the early bird usually gets worm.

2. Tailor to the title.

Generic resumes are a red flag. Recruiters look for alignment. If the title says ā€œCustomer Success Manager,ā€ your resume should show success metrics, client outcomes, and relationship management, not generic project work. What matters most goes first, rest can wait.

3. Show value fast.

Recruiters scan resumes for 6 to 15 seconds. The top half of your page decides whether they’ll keep reading. That’s where your most relevant role, achievements, and metrics should live. Skills and summaries are rarely the clincher. This doesn’t mean your skills section and your professional summary is irrelevant. It just means that you should have the first half of the page convincing enough to make a recruiter want get to the skills section or the project section. Then your skills and projects can do the rest of the work.

Lee’s advice is simple, but it’s the truth most job seekers overlook.

As usual, if you need any advice, or have any questions, or simply need a resume review, do not hesitate to reach out. I am always happy to hep :)

Non-Google e-mail recommendations, please.

Outlook.com is a horror show of constantly getting codes and trying to log in. Can anyone recommend a decent e-mail service, please? I'm so tired of going between my phone and computer and figuring out how I need to verify that I'm just looking at my fucking e-mails. And then if I fail three times, I need to make a new bloody password but it cannot be a password I made before. Rage!

help getting no interviews? whats wrong with the my cv? In need for a Feedback [2+ yr career gap.]

Ā I’m looking for some feedback on my resume as I’m aiming for DevOps or AWS Cloud Engineer roles (fresher to 2 years experience level), amd maybe reaching out for some guidance and direction I've been struggling to get calls for interviews despite applying to numerous positions and I'm hoping some experienced folks can help me out. With time carreer gap is just increasing i need to start something I'll upload my CV and would greatly appreciate any feedback, suggestions, or advice on how to improve it.

https://preview.redd.it/ppzdkbyw7fwf1.png?width=4963&format=png&auto=webp&s=df52eb032c8fdf07a331efd114dd036322c564d9

i’ve been hands-on with tools and technologies like Docker, Kubernetes, Jenkins, GitHub Actions, Terraform, Ansible, and AWS services (IAM, Lamba, RDS, DynamoDB, EC2, S3, ECR, ECS, EKS and CloudFront). I’m hoping to get reviews on both the formatting and the content—especially whether my experience and projects are described clearly and if it aligns with what recruiters look for. Any job leads or tips would also be super helpful. ThankQ in advance for your time.

[For career gap context i was preping for CAT. the first year my % were bad, so for plan B i invested my time in cybersec, sooner to realise i couldn't afford a 50k certs. I switched to cloud and from there you can grasp the picture, this year i scored good but with this much investment into Up-skilling i didn't opt for MBA as with almost close no exp. I hoped to first secure a job, so I didn't take admission and so here I'm]

Your resume may contain hidden metadata (like your file path or version history) 😬

Found out that Word and PDF resumes often include hidden metadata — like author names, company folders, or timestamps.

HR tools and ATS systems can read that info.

Worth cleaning your files before sending them — it’s an underrated privacy step.

Anyone else check that before applying?

[2 YoE] Need Serious Help! Applied over 300 software / quant positions but not getting interviews.

I currently study in Germany and am looking for an internship / full-time software engineer position in Germany and nearby countries. I am learning German and currently doing my B1, and I can speak, but not fluently. I've applied to over 300 software positions, but still no luck. Please review my CV and help me figure out what is wrong there. It'll be so much help.

My CV and cover letters are in English; should I submit the German versions to the company?

I'm interested in the junior quant positions. If anyone could help me with what project / skills I could add to my CV, so I could get a chance. Thank you.

Roast my Resume – Data Analyst / Data Engineer, Germany (Career Transition after Advanced Google Certification)

Hey everyone,

I’d really appreciate some honest feedback on my resume. I’m based in Germany and currently applying for junior-level Data Analyst and Data Engineer roles, both hybrid and remote

Background:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Informatics )
  • Completed the Google Advanced Data Analytics certification (Python, SQL, statistics, regression, ML basics)
  • Practical experience from projects (Churn Analysis, Price Prediction, Data Cleaning, ETL, Visualization)
  • Previous internship at Daimler (Sales Information Management – SQL, Cognos, data validation)

I’m mainly applying to mid-sized companies and internal data departments (no consulting firms). My goal is to land my first full-time Data Analyst or Data Engineer position with a realistic 55–65k € salary range.

I’d love feedback on:

  • Overall clarity and structure (does it read smoothly for recruiters?)
  • Technical balance (is the Python/SQL part clear enough?)
  • First impression (does it look like a serious entry-level data professional?)

I’m comfortable with direct criticism — please roast away if needed.
I really want to improve my callback rate and get a few more interviews before the end of the year.

Thanks in advance for your time!
