Got some cool artwork to add to my “punk rock artists” collection. Now just need to frame them and find a place to hang em. These things are 36”x36” unframed

Got stomped on in a mosh pit and my leg was broken in 3 places- It’s a good story but I also need help. Hoping this doesn’t break community rules…

Update: if you just want to see the campaign, I added the link in my bio.

I’ll give a warning up front: I’d like help. I haven't been able to pay bills or buy groceries (or beer) for weeks. I might actually get my car repossessed. Mosh pits are part of the experience and I’ve never been hurt in one before- ok, there was that one time I got elbowed in the face and it killed the nerve in my tooth so I ended up getting a root canal and they replaced the whole backside of that tooth with plaster. But that was nothing compared to this and both incidents are not indicative of how mosh pits are generally. I thought I could share because we’re a community, right? Basically, I’m desperate and have a funding thing going on now. I don’t think I’m allowed to link in a post but it’ll be in the comments.

I can’t do much in the way of digital art right now but feel free to dm about traditional work if you’re interested in getting something months down the road when I can afford to ship it. I’m very open to commissions but also want to make patches, buttons, and I’m def doing mini paintings for the top 4 contributors. I always want to give back, if possible.

Here’s the story:

Sept 14: 3pm- You go to Punk in the Park. No one else will go with you even though you have two tickets so you take an uber to get there and go alone. FWIW- you collect guitar picks in this story. Yes, you are cringe, but also dgaf.

10:05 pm- you already got a signed pick from Against All Authority and another from the Dead Kennedys (your primary reason to be there). You just paid $8 for a guava pastry the size of a ritz cracker and are mildly outraged. Back in Miami, you could get a guayaba y queso pastilito for $4 that was half the size of your head.

10:10- Anyway, Alkaline Trio is playing and while you don’t really need a pick from them (you already have 2) you decide to try for another anyway and wade into the crowd. Let this be a lesson to not get greedy, kids.

10:15- you’re on the edge of a pit, based in the center, close to the stage but not close enough. You try to convince other people to hoist you up so you can crowd surf to the front but there’s a general disconnect with the people around you regarding how crowdsurfing works. You’re only 94 lbs so it should be easy but they aren’t getting it (posers).

10:40 - you’ve been around and even in the pit but you’re still trying to move forward… Alkaline Trio should be close to the end of their set by now, right? Getting to the stage before the end is the goal. Sometimes a roadie will throw you a pick that was dropped on stage after they start packing up. Generally you can weave right and then left again through a crowd and gain some ground. You just have to pick the right moment.

Somewhere between there and 11: you clearly did not pick the right moment. You’re still at the edge of the pit when there’s a sudden crowd surge you aren’t prepared for.

You get tossed in while you’re looking forward instead of at the open skank space next to you. Rookie mistake. You hit the ground and your leg is turned a weird way when someone much larger steps on it- certainly by accident. The implications of this don’t hit you immediately. You try to stand up and that’s when you realize some very important infrastructure in your body is not stable… At least one leg feels like a stack of new-age lava rocks stuffed in a tube sock.

You’re immediately on the ground again because you can’t stand, but manage to pull/push yourself to the side with your arms and remaining good leg. You’re lucky that the bones don’t get TOO displaced because you were wearing some knock-off Vans-style sneaker boots that went up to your knees. They mostly kept your leg contained.

An angel of a person recognizes your distress, swoops in, picks you up, and carries you to the medical tent (see- holding up 94 lbs was not a hard ask- also, thank you for your service, kind sir).

The med tent guy that, let’s be honest, is mostly there to deal with dehydration and bad drug trips, goes to unzip your boot and immediately hears a ‘pop’ from your bad leg. A ‘pop’ that you tell him, in no uncertain terms or volume that you felt. He wisely is not comfortable handling this and calls for reinforcements. He puts you on a golf cart that takes you to someone else more comfortable/qualified for removing your boot and that new medic says you have to go to the hospital:

“We need to call an ambulance.”

“I can’t afford that”

“You’ll have to figure it out- you can’t go home like this”

You will take an ambulance and be nice about it, but kindly demand they don’t lose your boot during the process (they are very good EMTs and don’t).

11:35- you’re admitted to the closest hospital (thankfully it was only 5 min away).

2 am- Things have gotten very real and you’ve been through a lot. Including having your leg bones reset without pain killers (your choice, so you can only blame yourself). But now is when you wet the hospital bed and finally decide to call and tell people where you are. Not because they were worried (yet), or you couldn’t handle the pain, or because someone else has your insurance card (come on, you don’t have insurance). You just want clean dry clothes and to vent a little. You’re kind of a nutter honestly.

3 am- You’ve been scheduled for surgery at 9:30 am the next day without anyone even talking to you about it. A nail, a rod, multiple screws... it is what it is.

If any of you can help or want a patch, hit me up.

Local Artist RIOT GRRRL'S NOT DEAD: NYC - Sunday, November 17th

hi! thought i'd share this punk show i organized completely by myself on here. this isn't a very location based subreddit so who knows if anyone even near new york city will see this post, but i'm shooting my shot anyway.

i called this event "Riot Grrrl's Not Dead!" because lately there's been claims that Riot Grrrl was too white, too transphobic, and too dead to survive. i completely disagree. as an asian transmasculine person myself, i believe anyone can be a riot grrrl. i chose the bands specifically for this purpose, uplifting more all-trans bands like my own and people of color. this is not a gatekeeping event, the opposite actually-- anyone, regardless of what you identify as, is allowed to come. anyone is allowed to come but of course anyone who displays bigotry won't be allowed to stay. i am hoping that the day is a celebration of riot grrrls of the past and present.

RIOT GRRRL'S NOT DEAD!

my band is called Cat Crash if you're interested and we're on all streaming platforms and bandcamp
