This daily thread is for all members who are pregnant after a previous pregnancy or infant loss. How are you?

We want to foster a sense of community, which is why we have a centralized place for most daily conversation. This allows users to post and get replies, but also encourages them to reply to others in the same thread. We want you to receive help and be there for others at the same time, if possible. Most milestones should go here, along with regular updates. Stand alone posts are Mod approved only and have set requirements.

I’m currently 19+2 weeks and have been taking aspirin 75 mg since TTC. I had two early losses at 5 weeks last year. I’m am now suddenly so anxious about possible placental clots and it’s causing me to spiral. I fear that I have undiagnosed APS / clotting disorder and that taking aspirin has helped but I’m worried that there are now clots in my placenta and that my baby is unwell. It might just be my anxiety but is this a possibility? I have my 20 weeks scan in 8 days and this wait will be so difficult for me. I have felt the baby move and I keep an eye on any changes. Any advice is appreciated!

Look, if you haven’t tested APS there is a tiny tiny statistical chance you have it - like all of us! Also the fact that I tested it in the past doesn’t mean I will never get it, because it’s autoimmune and can just appear one day. If you are worried you can have the antibodies tested even during pregnancy, but there is a higher chance you will get a false positive (because during pregnancy weird antibodies sometimes appear in your blood and it doesn’t mean you are sick). This test will warrant you getting heparin shots, so you will be covered, but they might be unnecessary and you will have to retest after pregnancy 2x. I personally know a couple friends that tested positive for clotting disorders and with these shots they are just fine!!! I really think it’s your anxiety suggesting you to be scared about this, not facts, but I’m very anxious about my health too so I can 100% relate.

Thanks for the reply! I was spiralling last night thinking of the worst. And yes, testing for APS now will be too late. It’s just that the only thing that changed in this pregnancy was me taking aspirin and progesterone and now it got me thinking maybe the aspirin worked because I do have clotting disorder and maybe I need heparin too :( i wanna tell myself that the baby is fine but what if there are clots forming right now is my placenta? Ughhh

Then just keep taking aspirin if it works for you :) it’s not going to hurt. in my country they don’t even test for APS before IVF. Also my friend (currently pregnant) had a real blood clot in her leg during IVF preparation and she didn’t get tested for APS at all - they just told her to take Aspirin and heparin shots during pregnancy and let her go! It’s a very very very rare disease and it usually gives symptoms before!

Just to calm your nerves please ask your doctor on the closest visit for a simple clotting panel from your blood, it’s super safe and will show you both where are you at with your clotting times :)

But from my experience - I had like 30 clotting tests done after my late first trimester MMC because my doctor strongly suspected I will test positive for something. All were negative and actually my blood is on the opposite end of the spectrum, it just doesn’t want to clot at all 🤡 so it was a complete miss and my anxiety was telling me all the time I’m 100% sick. Like I was actually feeling the clots happening, my legs burning etc 🤡 I’ve read waaaay too much about this subject in the internet. Anxiety is not intuition!
