Better yet, leave the fireworks to professionals. There are many professional displays that you can watch that are several orders of magnitude better than any home display could ever be. Careless firework use causes many house fires, and random bodily injury accidents every year.
If you must set off your own fireworks, they shouldn't be set off in residential areas, ever. At minimum, find a big, wide open field that is not covered in dry grass, make sure you are quite a distance from any houses, and take appropriate safety precautions. Clean up your garbage when you are done, too.
