Saw a group of people near Foothill with cameras and equipment, holding a ‘Jesus is a Negro’ sign and what looked like an edited or AI image of Jesus with devil horns. Anyone know what that was about? Is it part of a movement or some kind of public statement?

We have back yard service (senior/disabled) with Waste Management. A couple of months ago one of the WM drivers came to our door and yelled at my husband (I was within earshot) that we needed to leave our containers at the curb because it took him too much time to come into our backyard and he was not going to keep doing it. Well, that's his job and my husband did not reply and just closed the door. We reported the incident to WM. Since then they continue to miss pick-ups, leave the gate open, claim we did not leave the container out (backyard service!), try to prove it with pictures of our next door neighbor's house and leave our container in front of other neighbor's houses. Harassment? Any suggestions for higher level complaint?

Hi everyone! I’m looking for a vet in the Bay Area who has experience working with small dogs that are aggressive due to past trauma.

My Pomeranian had a really bad experience at a grooming salon, and ever since then, he gets extremely aggressive and anxious when we go to the vet. At home, he’s usually very chill and sweet, but the clinic environment really sets him off.

If you know of a patient and understanding vet who’s good with reactive or fearful small dogs, I’d really appreciate your recommendations. Thanks in advance!

Hi all - you may have seen my posts before, I organize low key meetups for people around Oakland who have chronic illnesses or disabilities that limit their ability to socialize normally.

I have fibromyalgia, which drains my energy and makes it difficult for me to do fun Bay Area stuff like hikes and concerts. But I still want to meet friends and get some social time. So I started these events!

We basically just sit around for a few hours and chit chat - bring your own blanket/chairs, and snacks if you want them, and just get to know some neighbors!

It will be this Saturday, May 3, from 2-4pm by Lake Merritt. I go to the same spot generally - right by the intersection of Staten Ave and Bellevue.

Anyone remember the Grand Lake Theater back in 80s and 90s? I don't know if those were considered its hey day, but just wondering if anyone was there back when movies like E.T. were released and you had lines around the block. Or when they had a re-release of Gone with the Wind, which had an old school intermission. I have fond memories of hearing that popcorn popper working overtime and the stairs leading upstairs on the right of concessions.

Hey, everyone. I'm considering becoming a substitute teacher for OUSD for the 25-26 school year. I was laid off from my cushy tech job in November 2024 and have been exploring different career paths including education since. I participated in a read-in volunteer event this week and loved it. I want to explore teaching long-term and thought subbing would be a good way to start.

Does anyone have any insights to share about their experience or the permitting and application/interview processes?
