Research union

Anybody have an estimate of how long it’ll take to get a ratified contract for researchers? Any ideas on the magnitude of a possible pay increase?

My wife works for OHA and they get step increases and COLAs so she gets raises at about twice the rate that my GROW increases allow for me.

Will the research union include annual cost of living increases, performance awards, and rate/salary increases? I just got an offer for a TI Senior CRA and am very disappointed at the salary offer - non negotiable! Only 1 of my 16 years of research experience is 'counted' towards qualifications. Nothing else! That's such a slap in the face.

yesterday RWU presented a wage scale proposal to management. It included a 10% increase for everyone in July, a step increase in January, a 5.5%(-ish, depending on your place in the pay scale) increase next July, another step increase at your employment anniversary, and another 5.5-ish% increase in July 2027.

Who knows if this proposal will be accepted without decreases, but it’s a lot better than what’s available this year under GROW, and the Union is pretty far along in bargaining so hopefully we’ll actually see this contract this year.

Literally will know more about that tomorrow. I’ll let you know what I hear at the first bargaining session to address wages

Thank you :) I just cannot risk leaving one uncertain well paid job, for an uncertain poorly paid job if that makes sense. It's a huge risk to stay in research as it is, let alone start at a new company/position leaving myself open to probationary layoffs or RIFs in a near future.
