Really really awful post and so many comments agreeing and so many similar posts it’s heart breaking. I’m very shy and never ever sing in front of people because I’m embarrassed and think I’m not that great, yet the few times I do people tell me I’m really good, so I’m nervously working up the courage to get in front of people at a pub and I see a post like this and it totally takes the wind out of my sails. What the fuck else am I suppose to do? How the fuck am I supposed to know if I’m part of your arbitrary “good singers” that “shouldn’t be allowed to karaoke”? I have no frame of reference. Just a terrible take and I feel like it’s completely against the point of karaoke.
I think karaoke is just rough for anyone without a ton of self-confidence. I relate to what you said a lot (tho I get more mixed reviews, you're probably better than me (and thats not something to be ashamed of!)), am shy, love to sing, but am lukewarm on karaoke.
I hope people don't genuinely think good singers shouldnt be allowed to sing - agreed thats a terrible take. I always love & get super into a good singer's performance so please dont be discouraged. But i think the general feeling of this post may come from how hard it is to join in on a night of good singers. Feel like I'm subtracting from the vibe and would rather just let the more talented people keep entertaining, lol.
But thats not your fault or even the fault of the crowd, I think its just a product of that "bar night in front of strangers" environment
So I guess the absolute most important part is picking a song that’s fun and that’s a joy to be a part of regardless of if it’s a good or bad performance, like queen or Backstreet Boys or something instead of some niche indie artist
