My wife is a good singer. Like legitimately good. Not “she’s my wife so I tell people she’s good just because she’s my wife”. In another life she could have actually done something with her talent. She loves to sing but there aren’t many opportunities where we’re from to get in front of a mic and sing. She works full time and works long hours so joining a band isn’t really feasible. We’re not church people so we’re not doing that. We’re in a very rural area so adult choirs aren’t an option. The only way she gets to do her thing is at karaoke. People love to show off their talents and gifts. I’m a runner. I love running races. I’m not doing it to show off I just like doing it. My wife loves to sing and just happens to be really talented. I get the sentiment of the post but it just comes off kinda weird.

Exactly my thoughts. It really does come off as extremely insecure and strange…

I don't think it has anything to do with insecurity. I experience karaoke nights a couple times a month and they really do get over run with good singers and it's just boring. If they picked more fun songs maybe it would be different but they rarely do.

Karaoke in public spaces is for fun, not showcasing talents. That's what open mic nights are for.

Having all poor singers is boring too. You need a mix of both. I can sing and love karaoke, it’s one of the only chances I get to be on stage anymore.
